Rebirth as The Vampire Lord's Wife -
Chapter 190: Talented
Chapter 190: Talented
The next day.
As Iris woke up, her smile persisted upon finding Xavier beside her. It was unusual for this man to be in bed, eyes closed as if in slumber when she awoke.
She sensed that this man was starting to act more human. He slept each time she lay in bed and accompanied her during meals, although he merely sat there, savoring his wine-beast and refraining from touching her food.
"Xavier, are you sleeping?" She whispered, placing her hand on his chest. She couldn’t hear anything in his heart but only felt his cold temperature. Despite his chill, she had grown accustomed to it after sleeping beside him daily.
She smiled at him after witnessing his eyelashes flutter and his golden-yellow eyes meeting hers.
"I’m not sleeping, but I’m learning to rest my mind while lying next to you, and it’s quite enjoyable," Xavier smiled in return. "Alright, you should wake up now. It’s almost lunchtime..."
Iris immediately got up when she realized it was almost noon. Xavier chuckled, observing her tie her hair into a messy bun.
"You should wake me up, Xavier..." Iris protested, glancing outside to the bright blue sky.
"You sleep like a baby..." Xavier commented as he followed her out of bed, leaning against the bathroom door while she washed her face.
"By the way, you should cease the games with Justin," he continued after she finished brushing her teeth.
Iris smiled at his warning. "Playing online games with Justin was fun. Besides, I need to distract my mind from Eric..." She paused to take a deep breath, remembering how serious Eric’s condition was.
...
After drying her face and tossing the towel into the basket, she fixed her gaze on him. "You haven’t answered my question yet, Xavier!"
"What question?" His eyebrows raised slightly.
"Gosh! I knew it, you forgot about it..." She shook her head, requesting he leave the bathroom so she could take a shower.
"What question?" Xavier called out after Iris closed the door.
"About Eric’s condition," she replied. "But let me finish my business first. We’ll talk later..."
"Take your time, darling. I’ll prepare your lunch," he smiled, then exited the bedroom.
...
After her shower, she quickly changed her clothes and exited the bedroom. She found Xavier already cooking her lunch.
Iris gasped in surprise when she saw the dining table, initially set for six, now filled with her favorite dishes.
"Mr. Darkwood, are you trying to double my weight? Why did you prepare so much food?" She was left speechless, seeing eight different main dishes and a few desserts on the table.
Xavier smiled and walked toward her, wrapping his arms around her waist and hugging her from behind. He leaned near her ear before saying, "I’m not trying to make you fat, my darling. But if you happen to gain weight, I wouldn’t mind."
Iris, "..."
’Gosh! He used his honey trap again!’ She tries to distract her mind.
"Iris, in my entire life, you’re the only woman who enjoys my cooking. You should be thankful to me, my love..." Xavier continued before planting a quick kiss on her cheek.
Iris, "..."
She blush!
"Alright, darling... Now eat. You skipped dinner and breakfast. You might get sick if you don’t eat now." Xavier guided her to her chair before sitting beside her.
Iris agreed with him. She was indeed starving and realized she might end up in the hospital if she didn’t eat now.
Later,
She felt almost mesmerized as she enjoyed Xavier’s cooking, unaware that the food on the table had nearly vanished, stopping only when her stomach felt full.
"Are you finished?"
"Um, sorry, I couldn’t finish all of this..." She felt regretful looking at the leftovers.
"It’s okay, this food won’t be wasted..." Xavier said and gestured his hand in the air; all the remaining food, plates, and cutlery on the table vanished, leaving it clean.
"Xavier, you should teach me how to do that," she said. Having seen him perform that magic before, she was curious and eager to learn.
Xavier didn’t immediately respond but gestured for her to follow him to the living room and sit on the sofa beside him.
They enjoyed the city view from the window while continuing their afternoon conversation.
"You actually have the talent to learn magic," Xavier remarked thoughtfully.
Her progress impressed him, particularly her abilities to teleport and stop time without needing to cast spells or make hand gestures.
She seems to easily manifest this power as if she was born into the oldest witch family. He had only seen a few witches perform magic solely with their minds.
"I’m talented?" Iris nearly chuckled upon hearing his compliment. "How could I be talented? I’m just human... I can do that because it’s a reward from Lucian, not due to talent," she expressed.
"Darling, you know basic magic, right?" Xavier asked.
"Yes. Gavriel taught me a little about using and controlling my mind to use my ability. But recently, I’ve learned by myself. I merely think about that power and can use it easily," Iris explained.
"That’s because you’re talented. You have the innate ability for basic magic within you."
Iris was confused. "But isn’t that the ability I gained after I succeeded in my mission?"
"That’s true. But Lucian awakened your potential to use your power. I believe Lucian recognized your potential, so he gave you abilities you’ll master faster, such as mind control, teleportation, and time manipulation," Xavier clarified.
"I see," Iris responded, trying to understand the concept of superpowers or magic she had received since becoming a God Helper. However, Xavier’s explanation helped her know that the magic or superpowers she possessed essentially meant the same thing.
Nevertheless, another thought puzzled her: Why did she possess such talent despite being an ordinary human?
’Are my parents witches? Is that why they abandoned me in an orphanage?’ Iris suddenly felt chills at the thought.
Iris pushed the thought away. It doesn’t make sense if her parents were a witch.
