Rebirth as The Vampire Lord's Wife
Chapter 160: Caught By Justin

Chapter 160: Caught By Justin

A week had passed since Iris and Xavier had moved into their new house.

They hadn’t ventured far from the property for now, choosing to spend their days inside or exploring the yard.

They relished the sun’s warmth, playing by the lake, and occasionally, Xavier took her on hikes.

At first, Iris had worried that staying with Xavier in the house might become boring, but she soon realized she had been mistaken. Xavier was surprisingly fun to be around and was not as aloof and uninterested as she had initially thought.

Iris sensed a remarkable change in Xavier’s demeanor since they had settled into their new home. He appeared much livelier and happier than before.

On a few occasions, Justin and Niles paid them visits. Niles usually had something important to discuss with Xavier, while Justin spent most of his time with Iris. They would go fishing at the lake or watch unexciting movies on various streaming platforms.

...

Iris woke up to the distant chirping of birds.

Opening her eyes, she noticed the empty bed beside her.

"Is he busy working in his home office?" she mused, imagining Xavier diligently working at his desk. She wasn’t entirely sure what he was occupied with. But a few times, she saw him often involved in reading material sent by Killian.

Iris gazed out the window at the bright morning sun, still nestled in her bed, cherishing the luxury of doing nothing. Even though she woke up late, no one was around to scold her.

She felt an overwhelming gratitude towards Xavier for never attempting to wake her up in the early hours; he understood the importance of letting her rest. He often reminded her that humans need enough sleep.

Over the past few weeks, Iris’s life has significantly transformed.

Previously, she had been weighed down by her obligations to maintain her relationship with her grandmother and attend university on weekdays. All those concerns have now faded away from her life.

A satisfied smile graced Iris’ lips as she reflected on her current happy life. This was the dream she wanted, the retirement she yearned for in her previous life.

Yet, her life was not an entirely ideal dream; it had taken on an unusual twist.

She had been reborn into a body that belonged to the wife of a Vampire Lord. Amazingly, she has also become God’s Helper tasked with killing sinners.

Xavier once told her that her current mission was noble and vital: to maintain world balance and prevent disasters caused by human greed.

....

Iris had been anticipating another ordinary day, spending her time at home as she had done the last few days. However, the long-awaited task finally arrived.

She stared at her invisible phone, engrossed in the message from Lucian. When she reviewed the details of her third target, a shiver raced down her spine.

"How did I end up with this challenging task?" Iris took a deep sigh.

Quickly, Iris jumped out of bed, freshening up before putting on her usual home clothes. She contacted Xavier through their shared mental link.

’Xavier, are you at home? Can we talk?’ she asked.

’I’m downstairs in my office. Should I come upstairs?’ he offered.

’No need. I’ll come to you,’ Iris replied and promptly vanished, reappearing in Xavier’s office. However, when she saw Xavier talk to Justin, she was shocked.

"Oh, my apologies," Iris said, feeling somewhat awkward. "I can return later if you two want to continue talking." She turned to leave.

However, she almost tripped over her feet when she realized her fault teleported into this room, and Justin was watching.

’Damn it!’ She muttered inwardly. She continued to walk toward the door. However, before she could open the door, Xavier stood before her, appearing to stop her from leaving.

"Iris, there’s no need to leave. Let’s talk," Xavier said. He gently took her hand and motioned for her to join him on the two-seater sofa. With little choice, Iris follows him, settling in beside him.

Her attention turned to Justin, whose expression was difficult to describe in words. She could see his shock through his gaze.

Iris couldn’t help but find amusement in his priceless reaction. She leaned closer to Xavier and whispered, "Why is he reacting like this?" Her gaze remained fixed on Justin.

"He was taken aback to see you teleport," Xavier said, turning Iris to face him. He enjoyed gazing into her beautiful blue eyes and ignored Justin, who remained shocked.

Iris, "..."

Iris felt foolish. Earlier, she had teleported without Xavier’s consent. Now, it was too late to conceal her abilities; Justin had witnessed her extraordinary act.

’Oh, it seems I can’t keep my identity hidden any longer,’ she sighed silently. She knew she must explain herself to Justin and Niles, as they frequently meet.

A playful idea danced through her mind as she observed Justin’s priceless expression.

"Xavier, wouldn’t it be amusing if I captured a photo before Justin snapped out of his trance?" Iris suggested. She couldn’t hide her identity, but at least she could remember Justin’s foolish expression.

She looked around for her cell phone but then remembered that she didn’t have it with her this time.

Turning to Xavier again, she asked, "May I borrow your phone? I wanted to—" But Justin finally found his voice before Iris could finish her sentence.

"B-Bloody hell..." Justin’s voice shook. "Who... Are you Iris? How can you teleport?" he asked in disbelief, aware that ordinary humans couldn’t do such things. But he had just seen Iris execute a casual teleportation. He could see she had mastered this extraordinary ability.

There were only a handful of creatures capable of teleportation — some vampires and witches. Iris wasn’t a vampire, so she must be a witch.

"A-Are you a witch? A white witch or a dark witch?" Justin asked. His concern clearly showed through his gaze.

Justin looked at Xavier, hoping to get an explanation from him, but he was confused when he found Xavier looking calm and not worried when he heard that Iris might be a witch.

This left Justin deeply perplexed.
