Rebirth as The Vampire Lord's Wife -
Chapter 159: Uninvited Guest
Chapter 159: Uninvited Guest
"You mean only the two of us will live in this big house?" Iris asked in disbelief.
"Yes. But don’t worry. Some servants and chefs will come in the morning to clean the house and cook for you daily. They live in a cabin in the woods behind the house. You can’t see them; a magic barrier seals the house. You might see their cabin if you gain the ability of your divine eyes," Xavier patiently explained.
She couldn’t help but smile upon hearing his words about divine eyes. If only she possessed that ability, it would be amazing. However, she’d have to wait to acquire such a power. Because, for nearly three months, Lucian hadn’t assigned her a single task.
At times, she couldn’t help but wonder if Xavier had some involvement in preventing Lucian from giving her assignments.
Iris stole a glance at Xavier and felt the urge to ask, but seeing him in a good mood, she decided to hold back. She sensed that Xavier didn’t like it when she discussed her role at God Helpers.
After letting out a silent sigh, she looked at him and asked, "So, do Justin and Niles live in the cabin?"
"No," Xavier replied. "They reside in the city. I’ve assigned them to monitor the happenings in Willow Town. But don’t worry, they can still visit anytime they like, so you’ll get to see them regularly."
Xavier knew Iris needed a friend to keep her company in this remote location. Moreover, he had decided to have Justin look out for her, especially once she started her assignments.
Iris no longer dwelled on Xavier’s last words. She was busy thinking about what it would be like for them to live in this spacious house. What might happen between them?
’Did Xavier finally gather the courage to be intimate with me?’ Just the thought made her heart race.
Lately, this question has been weighing on her mind. When they had not yet moved to this house, Xavier had always slept beside her, yet he never ventured beyond kisses. Once he lay down on her bed, he assumed the role of a motionless statue. He didn’t make a move.
If she playfully requested that he sleep closer, he would always make an excuse that she might get cold, given the difference in their body temperatures — she has a warm body while his temperature is like a glacier.
In the middle of their conversation, Xavier suddenly furrowed his brows, his gaze fixed on a particular spot in the house’s front yard.
"It seems he arrived quicker than I anticipated," Xavier said as he rose from his chair. Iris found herself puzzled but got up and followed him toward the front of the house. They took their seats on the terrace.
"Is someone approaching?" Iris asked. She felt curious as she scanned the area and saw no one.
"Yes, we have an uninvited guest," Xavier replied with a faint chuckle, his eyes narrowing as he peered toward the massive Willow tree a few hundred meters from the terrace where they sat.
"Who?" Iris asked, her curiosity arose.
"You’ll find out," Xavier responded.
Iris followed Xavier’s gaze, and Justin soon emerged near the Willow tree. However, the familiar figure behind Justin took Iris by surprise.
She was taken aback by Gavriel’s unexpected presence. This was the first time she saw him again. The last time they met was at Darkhill. They never saw each other again, and only a few times did they exchange text messages.
"G-Gavriel? Why did he come all of a sudden?" Iris mumbled to herself in a hushed voice.
But Xavier, who clearly heard her, replied, "You can ask him," his gaze fixed on Gavriel, who stood just a few steps before them.
"L-Lord Xavier," Gavriel greeted Xavier with respect before turning to Iris, who sat beside him. "Hi, Iris. It’s been a while," he said with a gentle smile.
Iris was left speechless.
This was the first time she had seen Gavriel greet her with such courtesy and warmth. Usually, he greeted her coldly, so seeing him smile as if spring had just arrived was a rare sight.
Xavier didn’t respond to Gavriel, merely nodding slightly. Then, he rose from his seat and extended his hand to Iris, helping her stand beside him.
His gentle eyes locked with hers as he spoke, "Iris, you can talk to him in the living room. I’ll go upstairs." After tenderly brushing Iris’s warm cheek, he vanished from his spot without even glancing at Gavriel.

In the living room, Iris sat with only Gavriel. She narrowed her eyes, looking at him sitting across from her.
"I’m genuinely relieved to see you looking so healthy, Iris," Gavriel commented with a smile that barely softened his serious face.
He was taken aback by how much Iris had changed when he saw her earlier. She appeared to be in good health and had grown considerably more powerful. If it weren’t for the sound of her heartbeat, he might have believed she had transformed into a vampire.
"I’m sorry I wasn’t there when you were attacked," he continued. Learning from Lucian that Iris had experienced a near-fatal accident had filled him with fear.
"You knew about my accident?" Iris expressed her surprise that Gavriel was aware.
"Yes, Lucian told me," Gavriel replied.
At the mention of Lucian’s name, Iris heaved a slight sigh. Despite serving as a God Helper for several months, she had never met Lucian. This was a source of frustration for her.
"You should have informed me about the other creatures earlier, Gavriel," she said, shaking her head. "I didn’t expect to encounter one of them so close to my backyard so soon."
"You mean I should’ve told you about Lord Xavier and his—" Gavriel’s voice trailed off when Xavier’s threatening tone reached his ears.
"Well, I mean... I can’t tell you... I’m sorry... this is part of your... assignment as an intern," Gavriel continued, his words a bit random. He couldn’t admit that Xavier had threatened him to hide his true identity.
"Alright, you seem to be healthy now. You’ll likely receive your new assignment soon..."
