Rebirth as The Vampire Lord's Wife -
Chapter 158: Willow Town
Chapter 158: Willow Town
After enjoying her final coffee at Gray Cafe, she returned to the car.
"Are you ready to see our new house?" Xavier asked when they climbed into the car.
Iris’s eyes shone as she looked at Xavier and nodded. "I’m ready," she felt excited and wondered where Xavier would take her this time.
Would it be somewhere cold like Silenthill or warmer like his beach house in Darkhill?
She asked him a few times, but he deliberately kept it a secret, explaining that it wouldn’t be as enjoyable if he revealed it now; he wanted to surprise her.
"We’ll drive there—" Before Iris could finish her question. Suddenly, Xavier grabbed her hand, and instantly, they disappeared from the car.
...
When Iris opened her eyes, she found herself on a green grassy lawn like the grass on a golf course. In some parts, she could also see willow trees and wildflowers.
What left her even more amazed was when she gazed into the distance, she saw a magnificent house.
This house differed from Xavier’s previous one at Silenthill, which had a modern facade. This house was a stunning example of Victorian Gothic architecture, with gray walls, black house pillars, and a roof.
It stood majestically amid a vast, green yard with a mountain in the background. As far as the eye could see, Iris could only spot this building, as if this entire area belonged to Xavier.
"Are we going to stay in this house?" Iris asked as she walked alongside Xavier, their hands still entwined, heading towards the house.
"Yes, we will stay here for the time being. This area is quite far from the city. It’s safe because the area has a strong magic barrier. No humans can enter this area..."
Iris was amazed to hear Xavier’s explanation.
"Even Gavriel won’t be able to teleport here as he pleases. He needs my permission to enter my property..." he added.
Iris felt even more convinced that Xavier was stronger than Gavriel. Somehow, she felt so happy.
"Do you like this place?" Xavier asked when they arrived on the terrace.
"I like quiet places. In my previous life, I lived in a bustling city..." Her face turned gloomy as she recalled her past. "I also prefer places that are neither hot nor cold." She continued.
"So, leaving Silenthill was a good decision, right!?" Xavier asked. He was happy to choose this place for their new house, as it is much warmer than Silenthills — Willow Town is in the south.
"Yeah," Iris replied, following him into the house.
As the door opened, Iris gasped in surprise, gazing at the modern interior. The interior design was similar to Xavier’s house in Silenthill.
After Xavier had taken her on a tour of the rooms on the ground floor, they proceeded to the second floor.
"There’s only one bedroom on this floor," he mentioned casually, but Iris felt like thunder had struck her ears.
"Wait, there’s only one room?" she asked, utterly confused. Would they be sleeping together?
"Iris, we’ll share this room," Xavier halted and stood before her. He touched her chin and gently lifted her face to meet his gaze. When he saw her eyes blink, he smiled.
Iris, "..."
"Why do you look so shocked, Iris?" he playfully teased. "You’re not a 19-year-old teenager; you’re almost thirty, and as for me, my age isn’t an issue either. And have you forgotten that we’re engaged?"
Xavier leaned closer, bringing his face near hers, and whispered, "You even use my last name now, Ms. Darkwood... Our marriage paperwork will be ready in a few days." He chuckled inwardly, noting how red her face had become. She looked adorable.
Iris remained silent, thinking, ’He is indeed right.’
She secretly swallowed, considering his words.
Iris couldn’t deny that since they got engaged, this was the first time Xavier had explicitly asked them to share a room. Just like when he proposed registering their marriage, she couldn’t refuse him. It was as if this man had cast a spell on her mind.
"Okay, silence means YES!" Xavier happily said as he walked in the other direction.
Iris, "..."
"Darling, let’s check out your walk-in closet," Xavier changed the topic after seeing her say nothing. He didn’t want to hear her say no.
...
They had moved from one room to another for a room tour. And after a few more minutes, Xavier was done.
They returned to the first floor to chat in the living room, where almost all the walls were made of glass, giving them a perfect view of the distant green mountains.
What amazed Iris the most was the presence of a beautiful lake with emerald water in the backyard. The view was so enchanting that it made her want to go for a swim.
"I like this place, Xavier. This is something I had imagined in my previous life. I wanted to retire from my job to live in a place like this," Iris said as she glanced at him. "Did you read my mind, or was it just a coincidence?"
"You know, I can’t read your mind, right?" He shook his head before continuing. "This is love, Iris... because we have similar tastes. Did you notice my property in Silenthill? The vibe was similar to this place, too, right?"
Iris nodded. Indeed, the Darkwood villa also had a mountain and a lake behind it.
"What is the name of this town?" she asked curiously.
"We are now in District Four, about two and a half fly by plane from District Six. This town’s name is Willow Town, the third-largest town in this District."
Later, she fell silent, wholly immersed in enjoying the scenery. However, not long after, she felt something was amiss. She noticed only the two of them were in this house. She didn’t see Niles or Justin.
"Xavier, where are Justin and Niles? Why haven’t they arrived yet?" she asked curiously.
"They don’t live here," Xavier replied.
"You mean only the two of us will live in this big house?"
