Chapter 156: Shameless Xavier
Chapter 156: Shameless Xavier
Now that Xavier knows everything about her, Iris no longer holds back from sharing anything with him.
"When I transmigrated into this body, I didn’t have her memories at all..." Iris smiled as she remembered her first meeting with Xavier in Gray Cafe.
"So, that’s why you didn’t recognize me when I came to your cafe?" he remembered that moment; she didn’t even glance at him, completely different from what she usually does, trying to seduce him.
Iris smiled and nodded, "Hmm, I didn’t know you at that time..."
She continued, "Because I was afraid my grandma and the people around me might get suspicious, I accepted Gavriel’s offer. I gained this little girl’s memory; however, I had to lose some memories from my previous life. It turns out that the memories I lost were—" Iris proceeded to tell him everything.
Silence hung in the air when Iris finished sharing the forgotten memories. And inform him of her goal, to learn more about these memories, especially who killed her.
She intended to take revenge on that person and send them to the door of hell.
A fierce, murderous aura emerged from Xavier upon hearing Gavriel dared to do that to Iris.
’How could Gavriel erase her memories?’ he thought inwardly in annoyance.
Before he could express his anger to Gavriel, he realized something. This is about why he couldn’t access Iris’s memories.
’Gavriel will never succeed in shielding her memories from me!’
It was more likely that someone more powerful than Gavriel had erased Iris’s memories.
’If not Gavriel, then who did it... Lucian?’ Xavier’s confusion deepened. ’But if Lucian did it, I should still be able to access Iris’s mind too—’
Suddenly, his hands clenched into fists when something crossed his mind.
’If not Lucian, that... It must be him! What does he really want?’ Xavier took a deep sigh. He likely needed to meet Lucian to discuss it.
Xavier returned his gaze to Iris and said, "I’ll try my best to help you find your lost memories, Iris. But I suggest you put that matter aside because many things happened while you were unconscious."
"A lot happened?" Iris asked, confused.
However, before Xavier could answer, her grandmother’s face flashed through her mind.
She could feel her face paling as she realized her grandma would be flying back to this country and canceling her trip. She always talked to her grandma daily, and three days of being unreachable by phone would undoubtedly make her grandmother panic, right?
A look of worry crossed her eyes as she looked at Xavier and asked, "Xavier, did Grandma call me?"
Xavier smiled at her, grabbing her tightly clenched hand as he felt Iris’s current worry and fear.
"That’s correct, Grandma Gray called you," Xavier paused when he saw her shoulders slump and her eyes grow gloomy. He quickly added, "But you don’t need to worry. I’ve taken care of everything. I’ve created a new path for you, so you no longer have to do what a young Iris would do, such as studying and staying in this place..."
Iris looked at Xavier with a confused expression, completely puzzled by what he had just said.
"A new path? Something that young Iris didn’t like?" She asked him.
Xavier told Iris everything he had done while she was healing. He began by erasing everyone who knew her, altering their memories to believe that Iris had died in the forest. He also informed her how he arranged for Cassandra and Finley to move to Switzerland.
Iris was utterly shocked that Xavier had done all of this for her.
"And, most importantly, you no longer need to continue your studies. I know you didn’t enjoy entering the university..."
She nodded.
"Indeed, I didn’t like studying again. It exhausts my brain."
"I know that. And, about a week from now, we will move to another place. There’s no reason for you to stay here..."
Iris, still processing everything, remained silent. She didn’t know whether to feel glad or sad about it. How could this man make so many decisions about her life in such a short time without even talking to her?
However...
Among all the things Xavier had done for her, there was one thing that made her relieved.
At least she could freely carry out her duties as an Assassin for GH. She could go anywhere when the task arose without worrying about her grandma or her university.
A faint smile tugged at the corner of Iris’ lips as she imagined her current life and the future.
"You don’t have to thank me, Iris..." Xavier continued his words while gently patting the back of Iris’s hand in his lap.
"I know... I’m amazing... I’m doing all of this so quickly, right!?" He added with a proud expression as if asking Iris to praise him.
Iris felt amused, looking at Xavier, who now looked as shameless as Justin. Gosh!
"Hmm, you did the right thing, Xavier. Thank you..." Iris said, slowly starting to yawn as drowsiness overcame her.
"I feel sleepy..." she said.
Only now did she realize that they had been talking for a long time, and she could see the clock on the table; it was almost dawn.
"Sorry for keeping you up..." He stood from his seat and brought her to bed. "Sleep as much as you want, Iris. You’re free from everything. Just relax..."
"Hmm, thank you..." Iris yawned again while pulling the blanket up to her neck. "You too, Xavier... Go to sleep," she said and slowly closed her eyes.
Xavier chuckled before responding, "We didn’t sleep—"
Iris was stunned. Her eyes opened again and met his brilliant golden gaze.
"But I will accompany you to sleep," Xavier said while pointing to the sofa. "I will sit there."
Iris, who was shocked to find out the Vampire wasn’t sleeping, said without realizing it, "Don’t sit there. You can lie on this bed with me..."
’Oh no! Did I just ask him to sleep together?’ Iris silently gulped while cursing herself inwardly.
