Chapter 144: Punishment

"Milord..." the twin guards greeted Xavier respectfully.

He only nods slightly at them and gestures to them to open the door.

The door creaked open, and the room lay in pitch blackness, only illuminated by the light from the corridor. The yellow light hanging from the ceiling flickered to life as they entered.

Xavier’s gaze landed on the small figure curled up motionless on the floor.

"Awake her!" Xavier ordered.

One of the guards appears beside Selina, grasping her hair and lifting her body to face Xavier.

"Wake up!" The guard hissed near Selina’s ears. Gradually, her lifeless eyes opened, and a look of horror suddenly filled them when she saw Xavier standing a few meters away.

Observing Selina awaken, the guard released his grip, causing Selina to fall back to the floor. This time, however, she promptly knelt on the floor, facing Xavier, her head hung low, unable to meet his gaze.

"M-Milord..." Selina’s voice was barely audible and shaky. She was too afraid to say anything, realizing her actions might be unforgivable. "P-please, please... give me your mercy, Milord. I didn’t know the Lady—"

Selina didn’t have the chance to finish her sentence as she felt an invisible force lifting her body from the floor. She glanced at Xavier and saw him pointing his index finger at her.

Pressing her lips together, she refrained from making any sound, accepting her punishment.

Slowly, Selina closed her eyes, but before they utterly shut completely, she felt her body propelled forward and brought to a stop right before Xavier. Once again, her knees hit the hard floor.

Everything happens so fast.

Selina couldn’t move her body at all, as if she were a puppet manipulated by someone else. Her head hung low. She could only stare at her Lord’s black shoes.

A moment later, she sensed a cold hand touching her head.

Selina froze.

’Is he trying to access my memories?’

Xavier placed his hand on Selina’s head and closed her eyes.

After a few moments, he reopened his eyes. His golden-yellow gaze gradually shifted to crimson, consumed by anger as he viewed the events within Selina’s memories.

Once again, he hurled Selina into the air.

Boom!

A deafening crash echoed through the room as Selina’s body collided with the wall, seemingly constructed from the sturdiest material on Earth. Black blood trickled from the corner of Selina’s lips, and her eyes closed, waiting for her fate.

"Throw her into the Fire Room!" Xavier ordered and departed from the room. He had no use for this wretched woman any longer.

How dare she harbor malicious thoughts and seek to harm his beloved Iris? He could not tolerate the presence of someone who threatened Iris’s life.

The twin guards were stunned upon hearing Xavier’s command. The Fire Room equated to certain death; no one could endure that room for more than a week. They would inevitably perish.

Despite their shock, they did not question Xavier’s order. They promptly carried out the order.

"You are old enough to control your thirst, Selina!"

"Indeed, she is foolish to have thought otherwise. How dare she set her sights on Our Lord, a woman?"

"Hahaha, Selina... You are brave enough to court death."

"Who will handle the beast in the woods if Selina dies?"

"Brother, don’t worry about it. There is clearly someone more capable than this lowly girl. You remember that woman, right?"

"Oh, you’re right! But I despise that woman. I hope she won’t be the one handling the beast in this place."

Selina was half-conscious and completely losing control of herself, yet she could still hear the twin guards’ insulting words.

She couldn’t help but bitterly laugh in her heart.

They were indeed correct; she had been foolish, unable to resist the woman’s blood fragrance. Now, she lacked the energy to escape the punishment awaiting her and could only accept it.

Xavier reappeared in the treatment room. Seeing Iris still lying there with a pale face but looking much healthier than before, his anger gradually faded.

"I will move you to your bedroom, Iris," he whispered as he gently cradled her.

Xavier didn’t rush to teleport; instead, he carried her and walked to her room on the same floor as the treatment room.

He gently placed Iris on the bed after covering her with a blanket.

Later, he returned to his bedroom and stood before the mirror.

Earlier was the first time he had felt such intense anger in many years. The rage he experienced was beyond words. And, after so many years, today was the first time he ordered fatal punishment against his people. Yet, he doesn’t regret his actions because Selina deserved it.

And strangely, today was the first time he felt such deep fear of losing someone. He never expected to handle such a deep connection to Iris.

"Have I truly fallen deeply for her? Seriously!?" He smiled, though the answer he sought remained elusive.

Slowly, he removed his long coat and his shirt.

As he gazed at his half-naked body in the mirror, thoughts of Iris’s naked body suddenly filled his mind.

A warm smile crept into his eyes for the first time since he learned of Iris’s danger.

The memory of her curved and smooth white skin stirred something within him. He closed his eyes to divert his mind from these seductive thoughts.

"Xavier Darkwood, cease these thoughts. You must find a way to be with her!"

After a few more seconds, he finally opened his eyes. He looked at his reflection in the mirror before him, still wearing a smile.

Xavier quickly dressed in comfortable home clothes. After finishing, he walked out and headed to Iris’s bedroom.

However, before he could enter, he heard Niles’s voice in his mind.

"Milord, someone wishes to meet you. This person appears powerful, and we cannot discern his identity. He insists on meeting—"

"Let him in," Xavier said before Niles could finish his words. He was well aware of the visitor’s identity. "Ask him to await my presence in the living room," he instructed before opening the door to Iris’s bedroom.
