Chapter 142: Dangerous Situation (3)
"Hahaha... Do you really want to challenge me, Miss. Gray? I think not. I know you’re just bluffing. I’m sure you know I can hear your heart beating loudly now. It makes me yearn to rip your heart out..." The corners of her lips lifted, revealing an evil and charming cold smile.
Iris shuddered, watching the woman disappear from her place.
’Fuck!! Is this the end for me?’ She cursed silently while clenching her gun tightly. ’God, please help me to kill this creature!’
When she suddenly spotted a dark silhouette in front of her, she instinctively squeezed the trigger of her golden gun without hesitation.
A soft but resounding gunshot rang out.
However, at that very moment, the woman’s hand made contact with her chest. Iris felt herself hurtling backward like an invisible force sent her flying like paper.
Crack!!
A loud crack echoed as her body collided with the massive tree behind her. Before she could grasp what had happened, another booming sound was heard as her body fell heavily to the ground.
No sound could be heard except for a long, anguished howl that escaped Iris’s lips as she felt an indescribable pain slowly emanating from her back and coursing through her limbs.
The metallic scent of fresh blood that assaulted her nose made her stomach churn, sickening her. She could feel the warm liquid flowing from her mouth, filling the earth around her.
Everything happened so fast.
She didn’t realize her face was as white as paper, and tears flowed down her cheeks.
’T-This... Why... Why do I feel like this again?’ Memories of her death in her previous life flooded her mind, akin to watching fast-forwarded video clips.
Realizing there was no hope for her survival, her thoughts became consumed by images of Xavier—the man who had allowed her to experience love in her final months.
However, it was all coming to an end now.
A bitter smile slowly twisted the corners of her lips, now taking on a pallid, purplish hue.
’X-Xavier Darkwood... I’m sorry. I can’t keep my promise—’
Cough!
Blood gushed from her mouth as she coughed.
’X-Xavier... I love you—’ Iris’ eyes slowly closed as she saw a shadow approaching her.
...
Selina was thrown several steps back, a sharp, burning pain lancing through her shoulder as the bullet tore through her skin easily.
’This!?’ Her eyes widened as she glimpsed her injured shoulder. ’—a magic bullet!? How did she obtain a magic bullet? Bloody hell! Is she a wizard?’ She was stunned beyond words.
Pressing her injured shoulder, she tried to distract herself from the excruciating pain coursing through her body, but the pain only worsened.
With difficulty, she rose from the ground, her gaze fixed on the unmoving young girl nearby. However, she knew the girl was still alive; she could hear the faint beat of her heart.
"If she is a witch, I have no choice but to end her life," Selina murmured softly, taking slow, heavy steps toward the girl; however, before she could deliver her fatal blow, an immense force approached from her right side.
She turned around to look, but in an instant, she was thrown into the air, her body frozen and stuck to a giant tree. As if an invisible chain tied her to the tree, making her hang several meters above the ground.
"Who the hell—" she roared, but a second later, her voice faded as she caught sight of the figure she feared most, bending over the little girl, cradling her in his arms.
"M-My Lord..." Selina’s voice caught as she saw Xavier vanish with the girl. "H-How does Lord Xavier know that girl?"
"It seems like you don’t value your life anymore, Selina!" A deep male voice emanated from behind the tree, shocking Selina even further.
"J-Justin..." Selina was taken aback to find Justin hovering in front of her. She tried to free herself but felt her bones being crushed. "W-Who is that woman?"
A look of disgust was plastered on his face as he looked at Selina.
"She is Lord Xavier’s bride, and you dared to harm his bride? Are you ignorant or simply foolish!?" Justin said icily while raising his hand.
Suddenly, Selina felt as though her body had been plunged into a pitch-black void, her senses enveloped by utter darkness.
****
Xavier held Iris’s bloodied body and, in an instant, vanished from the forest, reappearing in a spacious, all-white room filled with sophisticated medical equipment.
His usually pale face grew even paler, his eyes bloodshot as he suppressed his seething anger. He set aside his desire to punish Selina; his sole focus now was saving Iris.
Gently placing Iris on the bed, he disappeared from the room momentarily, returning with a black box in his hand. Upon opening it, he revealed a marble-sized black pill. Without hesitation, he placed the pill in Iris’s mouth.
After ensuring that Iris had swallowed the pill, he drank water and leaned in to kiss her lips, allowing the water to pass into her mouth.
"Iris, hang on..." he whispered near her ear.
His crimson eyes gradually shifted back to their usual golden-yellow hue as he heard her faint heartbeat slowly returning to its regular rhythm.
Standing at the bedside, he kept his gaze fixed on Iris without blinking. Despite knowing that the medicine he had given her would instantly heal her broken ribs and wounds, he couldn’t find peace until he saw her awaken.
After a period of anxious waiting, Xavier detected someone entering the room. "Speak!" he said without turning to face that person.
Niles bows slightly before speaking, "My Lord, what is Lady Iris’s condition?" He asked in worry.
He knew that the medicine his Lord had just given Iris would only be effective if her heartbeat were still there, even if her heartbeat was slow. However, if her heart stops, nothing can save her.
Receiving no response from his Lord, Niles felt a wave of fear — If Lady Iris died, disaster could not be avoided.
