Rebirth as The Vampire Lord's Wife -
Chapter 131: Cassandra’s Departure Day
Chapter 131: Cassandra’s Departure Day
A few days later.
Today is Cassandra’s departure day. Along with Randy Finley, they will be traveling around the world. Finley has prepared for this trip, which will also be his journey after he retires.
Finley has no family. His late wife died in a car accident almost a decade ago. After his wife died, he moved to Silenthill, his hometown, to continue his life.
However, when he started working at the hospital in this town, he reunited with Cassandra, his childhood best friend. Since then, they have become close again, and he was starting to like her.
A few days ago, Iris informed him that Cassandra had finally agreed to travel the world as he had suggested. He promptly proposed to Cassandra before their journey began. And it seems God blesses his plan; Cassandra accepts his proposal.
Everything went smoothly, and just like that, they were all on their way to the airport.
...
Iris felt sad because she had to be separated from her grandmother. Still, she tried to be strong, not wanting her grandmother to give up her intention to leave, as she usually did in the past few days.
Almost every day, her grandma intended to cancel her plans to stay here and enjoy her life as she now had a man she also loved.
But Iris always succeeded in persuading her again. She always told her grandma to see this trip as her honeymoon with Dr. Finley. And her grandma would agree right away.
Now...
Iris sat beside her grandmother, and Dr. Finley sat next to Xavier, who drove them to the airport.
Cassandra’s hand hadn’t left Iris’s hand since they left the house.
"Iris, you have to promise to call me every day. And make sure you study hard. I don’t want you to focus too much on your online business..." Cassandra warned her only granddaughter seriously.
Lately, Cassandra feels that her granddaughter is trying so hard to be financially independent that she works every day with her online business, even though she is on holiday.
"Grandma already has a college fund for you, so you don’t need to worry about that, Iris..." Cassandra emphasized that. "What you must do now is study hard and make your grandma proud of your academic achievements."
She doesn’t have much money but has been saving for her only granddaughter’s college studies since she was little.
"Thank you, Grandma..." Iris was moved to hear her grandmother’s words, even though this was not the first time she had heard them. "I will never disappoint you..." For the umpteenth time, Iris answered her grandma like that.
"You guys will start college in a few days, right?"
"Yes, Grandma," Iris replied.
Cassandra nodded, then looked at Xavier, "Grandson-in-law, please take care of Iris for me. If she is lazy with studying or skips her meals, I give you the right to scold her..."
Before Iris could protest, Cassandra added, "If she doesn’t obey you, please call me. I will scold her!"
Iris, "..."
"Hahaha, Grandma, stop humiliating your granddaughter in front of Xavier. He might break our engagement if he knows I have so many flaws..." she playfully said, trying to steer the conversation in a different direction.
But later, her face turned red when she heard Xavier’s cheesy words.
"Miss Gray, it looks like you should be disappointed because I would never do that, even though you have many flaws," Xavier said calmly, glancing at her blushing face through the rearview mirror. "You will be stuck with me for the rest of your life, Iris Gray."
"Hahaha, I love to hear that," Cassandra couldn’t help but laugh hearing Xavier’s sweet words to her granddaughter. Now, she felt at ease, leaving Iris in Xavier’s hands. Because this man sincerely loves her granddaughter.
Iris didn’t bother to comment on anything. She gazed out of the window, looking at the dark street outside.
They had to head to the airport early in the morning because Silenthill Airport does not have international flights. Cassandra and Finley had to fly to the capital’s airport first.
Not long after, their car finally arrived at the airport.
"Grandma, promise me you must text me whenever you can!" Iris said while trying to hold back her sadness.
Cassandra could only nod in response because, at this moment, she also felt sad. This is the first time she will leave her for such a long time.
Then Iris looked at Finley with teary eyes. She whispered to him, "Grand Uncle, please take care of my grandma. Call me if... You know... Something happens to her." She felt almost choked just saying those words.
"I will take care of her, Iris..." Finley said while gently tapping Iris’s shoulder. "We will come back as planned; don’t overthink," He smiles.
"Thank you," Iris said softly.
After a brief moment of saying goodbye, Iris saw Cassandra and Finley disappear from her line of sight.
However, she didn’t move from her place until Xavier pulled her into his arms. He hugged her for a few moments before leading her out of the airport.
...
Along the way, Iris tried to look calm, but inside, she felt sad. For some unknown reason, she felt this was the last time she would see her grandma. And she didn’t like this feeling.
She tried to distract her mind while looking at Xavier, who was focused on the street ahead. His handsome side profile was enough to keep her mind preoccupied.
Now, her heart started to pound nonstop, realizing something. Today, she would also move to his house.
It was hard for her to believe that her life would undergo such a drastic change this time. She had only known this man for less than two months, but now, they would start living together.
She felt confused about her feelings at this moment because she felt both thrill and worry simultaneously.
Thrill wanted to know how her life would be after living with him.
And worry that Xavier would find out about her identity as an assassin.
