Chapter 127: Know Everything!
Chapter 127: Know Everything!
Her heart began to race again as she pictured herself staying at his house, Darkwood Villa. Almost immediately, she felt her cheeks flush with warmth.
"Okay, silence means yes!" Xavier declared suddenly.
Iris, "..."
’Oh my God, this man!! When did I say I agreed? Why did he jump to that conclusion?’ She couldn’t believe what she heard. However, she was still unsure how to respond to him. She also didn’t deny his words.
How strange!
Now, she was starting to consider the reasons for agreeing to move into his house. Perhaps staying with him would be much more enjoyable than being alone in her house!?
But...
Living there could also be troublesome because of her strange life as an assassin for God.
What would happen if Gavriel visited her in the future?
’Oh, God... Just thinking about Xavier meeting Gavriel would be complicated.’
Now, Iris was starting to imagine if Xavier found out that she lied to him by saying that Gavriel was her cousin, he would definitely be upset, right?
Just thinking about it started to give her a headache. There were so many things making her hesitant about moving into his house.
She was utterly confused!
Xavier couldn’t help but smile when he saw Iris lost in her own thoughts.
"Iris, you go on ahead. If you need me later, you can text me. I’ll help you talk to Grandma Gray," Xavier’s voice brought Iris back from her reverie.
She slowly raised her head and met his calm gaze, which made her feel relaxed. For now, she would set aside thinking about moving in with him. She will discuss it later.
The most important thing right now was talking to her grandmother about her illness. She couldn’t delay it; her grandma deserved happiness, and she never knew when death might approach.
Iris nodded slowly.
"Okay," Iris said softly. "Xavier, how about waiting at the cafe?" She was concerned that her conversation with Grandma might take a while, and she didn’t want him to feel uncomfortable waiting in the car.
He shook his head. "No need. I’ll just wait here."
Iris didn’t say anything further. She quickly exited the car. However, before opening the door, she took a moment to calm her mind and adjust her expression so that no trace of sadness would show.
...
As Iris entered the living room, Cassandra also emerged from the cafe. She was surprised to see her granddaughter back so early, especially since it wasn’t even noon yet.
"You’re back already? I thought you went to Xavier’s house," Cassandra said while heading to the kitchen to get a glass of warm water.
Iris smiled at her grandmother, following her into the kitchen. She replied, "No, Grandma. I didn’t go to his house but went to the hospital."
Cassandra, who had just finished her glass of water, was taken aback hearing her words.
"H-Hospital?" Cassandra asked in shock while placing the glass on the sink. She rushed over to Iris. "Are you feeling unwell? Why didn’t you say anything to grandma?"
"No, Grandma, I’m okay... But, I visited the hospital to meet Dr. Finley," Iris calmly replied, her eyes never leaving her grandmother, who was now abruptly halting her step just two steps away from her.
She noticed her grandma’s panicked and worried expression gradually shifting to one of shock.
Observing Cassandra’s shock state, Iris moved closer and took her grandmother’s cold hand.
"Grandma, would you mind sitting beside me? I’d like to talk to you about something," She suggested, leading her grandma to the couch.
After sitting on the sofa, side by side, Iris didn’t rush into explaining what she had discovered at the hospital. Instead, she waited until her grandma had a chance to calm down.
Cassandra found herself unable to say anything at the moment. All this time, she had managed to hide her illness because she feared it would frighten Iris if she found out.
But now...
Seeing how composed Iris remained, even after meeting Dr. Finley, gave Cassandra hope that her granddaughter was growing and maturing.
"How much did you hear?" Cassandra asked, her voice calm.
"E-everything," Iris replied, her voice slightly trembling this time. "H-He told me everything, Grandma," she continued.
Cassandra’s shoulders slumped. She realized she could no longer keep anything from Iris. It was time to reveal the whole truth.
"I’m sorry if I didn’t tell you sooner, Iris," Cassandra finally spoke after a long silence. "I was too worried that you wouldn’t be able to accept it. That’s why I kept it to myself and waited for the right time to tell you," Grandma continued while looking into Iris’s eyes as she explained.
Iris listened in silence, refraining from uttering a word or even a sound.
"What Dr. Finley said, it’s all true... And I don’t know when death will come for me, Iris. I hope that when my time has come, I have left you well-prepared to be on your own. My dear Iris, forgive your grandma... I can’t accompany you for long," Cassandra couldn’t finish her sentence when she noticed her granddaughter’s eyes turning red.
She reached for Iris’s hand and gently patted it. She could see how sad her granddaughter was now.
Iris felt entirely overwhelmed by her emotions at this moment. This woman wasn’t her biological grandmother, but her heart ached for unknown reasons. Perhaps this was the lingering feeling of the young Iris. She couldn’t be sure.
She wiped away the tears streaming down her cheeks before speaking, "Grandma, please don’t apologize to me. I don’t deserve your apology..." Her own words nearly choked her.
Taking a moment to exhale deeply and relieve the tightness in her chest, she continued, "Instead of helping you, I have made things difficult for you. I wasted your hard-earned money and didn’t even realize you were sick all this time. Grandma..."
Iris gripped her grandmother’s hand tightly before continuing through her tears, "Forgive your ignorant granddaughter..." She sobbed softly. "But now, I have changed. I am no longer the old Iris who would trouble you. I will help you get through this ordeal, Grandma."
