Chapter 126: Make Decision

Chapter 126: Make Decision

Next Day.

After meeting Dr. Randy Finley, Cassandra’s doctors, Iris and Xavier didn’t immediately return home.

Iris didn’t want to rush back because, this time, she felt like she was falling apart, realizing that her grandmother’s condition was beyond help.

Dr. Randy Finley could only manage the disease to prevent it from spreading further and to alleviate her Grandma’s pain. In other words, her grandmother had resigned herself to her fate, simply awaiting the arrival of death.

Despite the sad news she had received, there was a slight glimmer of happiness when Iris heard of Dr. Finley’s inner thoughts. She discovered that the doctor was her grandmother’s closest friend and held a genuine affection for her Grandma.

"Iris, your grandmother now needs rest and should enjoy her time. I suggested she travel the world a few times, but she always declined, saying she couldn’t leave her cafe, and you..." Dr. Finley’s words echoed in Iris’s mind since leaving the hospital. She found herself agreeing with the doctor’s recommendation that her Grandma should take more time to rest and enjoy life.

Resting her chin on her hand, Iris gazed at the street, mentally scolding her younger self for her ignorance.

Sigh!

Iris sighed deeply for the umpteenth time, feeling irritated with her younger self.

That little girl had been so selfish, unwittingly making her Grandma’s life miserable. Her grandmother had worked tirelessly to support her, and she had squandered her grandmother’s money without understanding her grandmother’s hardships.

Xavier, who was driving the car, glanced at her with concern. He could sense the deep sadness that enveloped her at this moment, and though he wished to help, he refrained from using his powers. He feared that his intervention might create more significant problems for her.

"Iris, have you made a decision?" He asked.

"Hmm, my plan earlier, suppose the best for Grandma. Xavier, I’ll try talking to Grandma and persuade her to accept Dr. Finley’s offer to travel the world," Iris replied, her gaze fixed on Xavier.

"That’s what I was thinking as well. Moreover, I could sense that Dr. Finley is fond of your Grandma. Maybe they could travel together," Xavier suggested.

He was already hearing Dr. Finley’s inner thoughts and found it heartening. Now, all that remained was for Iris to convince Cassandra to go on this journey. If she succeeded, it would be the best outcome for Cassandra. And for Iris as well, she will no longer stress about her Grandma.

"Oh, you noticed it too?" Iris’ eyes lit up, and a smile finally graced her previously somber face upon hearing Xavier’s words. Seeing him nod, she continued, "Grandma is so lucky. In her old age, she has someone who adores her," she said.

"Yeah, I noticed it right away. The way Dr. Finley talks about Grandma and how he interacts with you, it’s clear he has a deep affection for Grandma Gray," Xavier smiled as he refocused his gaze on the road. He purposely drove around town, giving Iris time to think.

"Hmm, now, I just need to ensure Grandma agrees with me. I’ll make her travel the world to enjoy her life and forget about everything here, especially Gray Cafe."

"Speaking of Gray Cafe, have you made a plan?" Xavier asked with concern.

Xavier worried that Iris might try to manage the cafe herself. He didn’t want that to happen because if Grandma Gray agreed to travel with Dr. Finley, he intended to bring her to his house. He couldn’t bear the thought of her living alone at Gray Cafe.

"Yes, I’ve been thinking about it. I’ll ask Sister Maya and Kevin to take care of Gray Cafe and have Sister Maya stay in the house. We still have an empty room on the first floor for her to use," Iris explained. She recently finds out that Maya is an orphan, and she rents a studio apartment in the town.

"What about Kevin? It would be great to have a man living in the house to oversee everything," he inquired with concern.

"Grandma already permitted him to stay at our old garage in the backyard. I assume he’ll move in a few days after the renovation is complete..."

"That’s great," Xavier responded. "So, Gray Cafe won’t be an issue. I believe Grandma Gray will agree once you talk to her."

"Hmm, I hope so."

...

After a few moments of silence, their car was approaching Gray Cafe. Xavier glanced at Iris and asked, "Iris, are you ready to go home now, or would you like to come to my place?"

Iris was surprised that they were about to arrive at her house. "I’ll go home. I want to talk to Grandma now. The sooner we talk, the better."

"Do you want me to accompany you?" he offered after parking his car just before the door in Cassandra’s backyard.

Iris didn’t respond immediately. Now, she considered revealing her engagement with Xavier to her Grandma. She might need his presence later, as her Grandma might not believe her without Xavier there. But now, she was afraid that Xavier might disagree with her.

She attempted to speak to him several times but found herself at a loss for words.

Not hearing her answer, Xavier couldn’t help but continue, "Iris, let’s tell Grandma about us, about our engagement..." He paused when he noticed her surprised expression. Gently, he caressed her warm cheek before adding, "And, Iris... I want you to move in with me if Grandma goes abroad."

No words escaped her lips as she was shocked and speechless by what she had just heard. The idea of moving in with him had never crossed her mind.

She looked into his eyes to confirm that his offer was genuine and heartfelt rather than a casual statement. After several seconds, she could see the sincerity in Xavier’s gaze.

Her heart began to race again as she pictured herself staying at his house, Darkwood Villa. Almost immediately, she felt her cheeks flush with warmth.

"Okay, silence means YES!" Xavier declared suddenly.

Iris, "..."
