Chapter 110: How Beautiful

Chapter 110: How Beautiful

Iris didn’t stop what she was doing. She continued to train her eyesight until she mastered it. After almost five minutes, she looked back at Gavriel.

"I’m ready! Please open this barrier..." Iris said as she closed her eyes, ready to control her hearing ability.

Soon after, a loud noise assaulted her eardrums, but she endured it while focusing her mind. She asked her mind to limit her hearing ability to only what was happening near her in this cafe.

However, it was not as simple as she thought. Unlike her eyes’ ability, which allowed her to see in a single line of sight, the deafening noises came from every direction, making it challenging to handle. She could feel her eardrums hurting as if they were pricked by thousands of sharp needles. Her hands clenched tightly as she endured the nameless pain attacking her eardrums.

’Focus, Iris!’ She faintly heard Gavriel’s cold voice reminding her. ’Ask your mind to focus on what you want to hear. Ignore the rest, and don’t fight the pain; it’s just an illusion...’ Gavriel added.

Iris gave a slight nod with tightly closed eyes, confirming his guidance. She tried once again to breathe calmly.

After several seconds, she finally understood what Gavriel was trying to convey. She figured out how to select what she wanted and didn’t hear. The noise that had been torturing her ears slowly faded and then disappeared. Now, all she could hear were a few voices of people talking. Earlier, she couldn’t make out their conversations because all the voices seemed to overlap.

But now, she could hear them more clearly. And, the sounds of vehicles were no longer as overwhelming, the coffee machine’s noise had faded, and other nearby devices no longer assaulted her eardrums.

Still, this wasn’t what she desired. She couldn’t yet focus on what she wanted to hear. Iris refused to give up; she tried again and again...

...

Gavriel, who sat opposite Iris, began to worry as he observed her pale face as if all the blood had drained from her face. He noticed the sweat on her forehead and the glistening of small crystal tears in the corners of her eyes.

’Can she handle this?’ Gavriel grew increasingly concerned.

He wanted to intervene several times upon seeing her in pain. However, if he stopped her now, he feared that Iris might scold him. But, the image of Xavier that appeared in his mind froze him.

’I must stop her!’ Gavriel panicked as he saw Iris now crying.

He would prefer to endure Iris’s scolding over facing Xavier’s wrath for causing his beloved to cry and suffer this nameless pain.

However, as he opened his mouth to try and stop her, he noticed her eyelashes flutter, he gasp. Before he could say something, her cheerful lips formed a beautiful smile. His words hung on the tip of his tongue, frozen by the sight.

’How beautiful!’

Gavriel was utterly captivated, unable to move as he beheld such beauty. Silently, he cleared his throat, attempting to steady his racing heart, which pounded like a war drum within him.

’Shit! What’s happening to me? Why... Why do I feel this way just from seeing her smile?’

Now, Gavriel was in deep trouble. He tries hard to control his mind, maintaining his usual cold demeanor.

When he locked eyes with her mesmerizing, bright blue gaze, he forced himself to regain his usual expressionless face.

"Gavriel!! I did it! Now, I can choose what I want to hear and what not to hear—" Iris’ smile widened, brimming with pride as she celebrated her success.

"Really?" Gavriel replied awkwardly, followed by a forced smile.

"Hmm, this is awesome! Wow, really... awesome. You know Gavriel... I wish I could use this ability all the time, not just when I have a mission like now," she remarked before turning her gaze toward the police station to locate her target, Dudley Velcoro, ignoring Gavriel, who had a weird stare at her.

In just a few seconds, Iris had already spotted him. He was indeed in a morning meeting with his colleagues.

She could hear what they were discussing, but after a brief moment, she grew bored as they delved into the details of a new case. It didn’t pique her interest.

With Dudley Velcoro now in her sights, she felt a sense of relief. She could finally enjoy her coffee, which had gone from warm to cold. Glancing across the table at Gavriel, she was taken aback.

"You ate so fast, Gavriel..." She smiled, observing his empty plate and glass.

"Fast?" Gavriel chuckled. "This is the longest breakfast I’ve ever had. You distracted me with your pain and your tears..."

Iris was stunned.

"Do you know? I had to put up a mirage around us so people wouldn’t see you crying and in pain, or else they would question me for letting you suffer and even cry..." Gavriel explained.

He pretended to be annoyed. But in reality, what he did was he was trying to convince himself that he disliked this girl because she belonged to someone else. Her boyfriend was far more powerful than he was, and he couldn’t afford to risk his life.

Iris was utterly unaware of what had happened earlier because she had been too focused on training her hearing ability.

"H-How long have I—" She stopped as she glanced at her watch. "The heck! I’ve spent almost 40 minutes!?" She cried out in shock; she couldn’t believe she had endured the pain for that long.

"Hmm, that... long. Well, Lady Iris, you’d better order another set of coffee, or they’ll kick us out of this place. We’ve been sitting here for too long!" Gavriel said calmly and turned his gaze outside, looking at the police station.

They would stay in this Coinbucks longer because Dudley Velcoro’s meeting was expected to take a long time.

Iris agreed with Gavriel. She stood from her seat and walked toward the counter to order another coffee. However, what she saw shocked her when she stood in the queue.

’What an eyesore!’ she mumbled inwardly, looking at Ruby Winters, who sat alone in a corner, enjoying her breakfast.
