Rebirth as The Vampire Lord's Wife
Chapter 104: Panicked!

Chapter 104: Panicked!

Next day.

As Iris descended to the first floor early in the morning, she found her Grandma engrossed in cooking something much like the day before.

The previous evening, she had forgotten to inform her Grandma that she didn’t need breakfast since she intended to eat with Gavriel at Darkhill. But it seemed she would be eating at home, as she couldn’t bear to ignore her Grandmother’s efforts.

"Good morning, Grandma. What are you preparing?" Iris inquired.

"Hot bone soup. It would be best if you had something warm before you head out," Cassandra replied, glancing at Iris, who was brewing their morning coffee without being asked. She offered a faint smile, feeling a sense of pride in Iris becoming more considerate and obedient, much better than her old self.

"Grandma, why do you always cook Korean food? Did you have a fondness for that country?" Iris was curious, as her Grandmother frequently prepared Korean dishes when she stayed with her in the last few days.

Cassandra narrowed her eyes, staring at Iris, surprised by her question.

’Hasn’t Iris regained all her memories? Why did he forget this?’ she wondered.

"Why do you ask? You’re the reason I learned to cook Korean and various Asian dishes. You loved that K-pop group from there..." Cassandra paused as if trying to recall the name of the K-pop idol group her granddaughter had favored. "Iris, what was the group’s name?"

Iris was rendered speechless. She had been preoccupied with her own matters lately, causing her to forget her younger self’s interests.

She silently swallowed, moistening her suddenly dry throat, when she remembered how peculiar the young Iris’s tastes had been. How could she have been so enamored with a flower boy dancing and singing!?

"Sixteen!" Iris responded in a barely audible voice. Goodness, it was challenging to remember; she felt somewhat embarrassed.

"Ah... Yes, Sixteen. Hahaha, did you forget that you like them more than me?" Cassandra shook her head and then continued her cooking.

Iris, "..."

Iris pretended she didn’t hear her Grandma’s words, solely focused on her coffee. However, Cassandra’s following words snapped her back to reality.

"But why do you seem uninterested in them now? You used to talk about them all the time," Cassandra’s eyes darted at Iris as she felt suspicious.

Iris didn’t reply immediately; instead, she finished her prepared coffee and brought it to the table. After settling down and awaiting the dish Grandma was about to serve, she finally responded.

"G-Grandma, of course, I forgot about them. I have a handsome boyfriend now. Ugh, I don’t know if you believe me or not, but Xavier... he’s turned my world upside down..." she confessed, then quickly averted her gaze, attempting to conceal the reddening of her face.

’Damn! Why does just talking about him make me feel so shy?’ Suddenly, something crossed her mind. She realized she hadn’t informed Xavier about her trip to Darkhill. And she had no intention of doing so, fearing he might worry about her.

As Iris attempted to divert her concern about Xavier by sipping her bone soup, Cassandra’s laugh suddenly resonated throughout the room, causing her to stop eating and look at her perplexed.

After her laughter subsided, Cassandra wiped away the invisible tears in the corners of her eyes before speaking cheerfully, "Oh my dear... I don’t recall you listening when I told you many times to stop chasing Sixteen. But when Xavier does it, you finally stop. Hahaha... This puts me in a good mood."

Iris, "..."

Cassandra continued when she saw her avoid her gaze, "Iris, I don’t know whether to be mad at you or grateful to my future grandson-in-law—"

Cough! Cough! Cough!

Suddenly, Iris coughed miserably, nearly choking upon hearing her grandma address Xavier as her future grandson-in-law.

"Iris, please eat slowly, dear..." Cassandra paused as she offered Iris a napkin to wipe her mouth. "You should be thankful to Xavier because that man has brought out the best in you. You look so different now compared to before you were in a relationship with him. You seem calmer and even more beautiful..." She genuinely complimented her granddaughter.

Iris could only lower her head to finish her meal. She couldn’t linger here, or her face might turn red like a lobster.

"Now, I feel at ease. If—" Cassandra stopped speaking as she felt a pang in her heart, turning her gaze toward the dim sky outside, remembering her illness.

Iris slowly raised her head upon hearing her Grandma fall silent. Her heart tightened when she saw her Grandma’s gloomy expression, realizing what had suddenly saddened her.

"Iris darling, if the day comes when Grandma leaves this life, I hope you and Xavier will get married. Be obedient to him; he’s a good man, and he will take care of—" Cassandra’s voice trailed off when she noticed Iris raising her hand to halt her words.

"Please, Grandma, stop talking like that," Iris pleaded, feeling an overwhelming sense of suffocation as if a massive boulder were crushing her chest, hearing her Grandma start to discuss death. "You’ll live with me until we’re both old. We’ll grow old together, Grandma..."

Cassandra pressed her lips, observing the sadness flicker in Iris’ eyes. She quickly nodded, not wanting to dampen her spirits, especially since she was about to travel to another city.

"Haha, my dear, sorry if Grandma frightened you. Yes, yes... We’ll live a long time and grow old together," she smiled. "Alright, hurry up and finish your soup. You might miss your train if you’re late."

Iris agreed with her Grandmother. After finishing eating, she immediately excused herself.

With only a backpack hung on her shoulder, she left the house, dressed in the black outfit she had been wearing recently. The sky began taking on an orange hue, heightening her anxiety about being late.

She dashed to her car. Upon entering her vehicle, she swiftly started the engine. Within a minute, she was racing toward the station at full speed.

At the same time, Justin arrived. He was panicked, watching Iris leave her house early in the morning.
