Chapter 103: He Will Breakup With Me!
Just thinking about this caused pain in her heart, like someone had rubbed salt in her wound.
Iris lowered her head, hiding her teary eyes.
Soon, they both settled down to enjoy their breakfast. Cassandra had prepared a simple sandwich this time, knowing her granddaughter was already hungry.
"What is your plan for today?" Cassandra asked.
"Hmm, today... I will stay at home, but tomorrow morning, I plan to go to Darkhill City," Iris replied, glancing at her grandma. Observing the concern in her grandmother’s eyes, she reassured her, saying, "Don’t worry, Grandma. I won’t be staying there overnight. I’ll return the same day."
Cassandra shook her head in response and set her half-eaten sandwich down before speaking, "I’m not concerned about that. What worries me is... that you’ll be driving there. You’ve never driven such a long distance before, Iris. Did you forget how you had an accident?"
Iris was rendered speechless. She wasn’t the young Iris. Besides, a three-hour drive to Darkhills was no big deal for her.
"How about taking the train there? It only takes 30 to 40 minutes to reach Darkhills," Cassandra suggested.
"Oh, Grandma... You’re so brilliant! How could I forget about that option? Don’t worry, I’ll take the first train," Iris smiled to reassure her. However, deep down, she scolded herself for lying to her grandma. She needs her car to investigate corrupt police, so she needs to drive there.
...
Iris returned to her bedroom after explaining to her grandma why she visited Darkhill — she needed to meet her business partner. She felt grateful that her grandma didn’t ask any further questions; she simply advised her to be cautious.
After entering her bedroom, she immediately called Gavriel. She dialed Gavriel’s number using her own cell phone. After the fourth ring finally, she could hear Gavriel’s icy voice on the other end, which surprised her.
’Why did he seem to be in a bad mood again?’
"Gavriel, hi, how are you? I hope you are fine..." Iris said in her cheerful tone, attempting to cheer him up. However, her effort faltered after hearing his response.
"Just get to the point! What do you want to say, Iris?"
She shook her head and threw herself onto the bed. "You seem to be in a bad mood now. Sorry, Senior Gavriel, if I ruined your day."
"Damn! You did ruin my day, little lady! How dare you disrupt my sleep!? Can you wait until the sun rises on the horizon before calling me?" He growled.
Iris silently slapped her forehead. How could she forget that this was still early in the morning!?
"G-Gavriel, are you in Silenthill too?" She asked, ignoring his anger.
"No, I’m in another city."
"Which one?" She hoped Gavriel was in Darkhill so she could arrange to meet him there to complete her mission as quickly as possible.
"Darkhill!" Gavriel said curtly.
This girl was so stubborn. He had already told her he was in the middle of sleep, but she continued to speak. If only she weren’t that Vampire Lord woman. He had already taught her a lesson!
"Why, you asked!?"
"Wow! What a coincidence. I received my second mission, and my target is in that city," Iris exclaimed.
Instantly, Gavriel felt refreshed. He left bed and walked towards his bedroom window, which overlooked the city. It still appeared empty, with only a few cars passing the streets.
"That fast?" He said, this time his voice sounded calmer.
"I received it last night. I only have four days to complete it. And I plan to go there tomorrow morning," she paused, remembering her grandma’s suggestion. If Gavriel were there, she wouldn’t have to drive. She could use the train instead.
She continued, "Can you drive me around? Because I plan to go there by train."
"Why didn’t you come here with your boyfriend?" Gavriel asked, confused. As far as he knew, the Vampire Lord Xavier seemed overly protective of his woman.
"Xavier is in Dubai now, so I can only go there alone. Besides, how could I bring him there? He might know my identity as an assassin," Iris paused to take a deep breath.
"Gavriel... He might break up with me if he knows. How could a gentle and kind man like Xavier accept a sinner like me?" Iris said.
This was one of the dilemmas she had been grappling with lately: What if Xavier knew her identity?
Gavriel almost choked on her words.
’Tsk! Iris, if only you knew your man was a Vampire Lord, you might be frightened to death and run away to the ends of the Earth!’
Gavriel could only shake his head and feel sorry for this young lady. He wanted to tell her the truth, but how could he risk his life? He couldn’t.
"Alright, just text me your train arrival time. I will pick you up there. And don’t forget to bring your new gun..." Gavriel reminded her of everything before finally ending the call.
After speaking with Gavriel, Iris immediately opened her laptop. She needed to book her train ticket. It only took her a few minutes to purchase her ticket online.
Iris also conducted further research on her target, Dudley Velcoro. She needed to verify whether the information her boss, Lucian, had sent her was accurate and complete. She feels slightly worried because her new target this time was someone she had never met or knew even a bit. Her second target is unlike her first target, who was her professor.
So far, all the information Iris had received from Lucian was correct. However, one thing caught her attention when she discovered something on Dudley Velcoro’s cell phone: a picture, and she knew exactly who that person was.
"What the heck? Why does Ruby Winters have a connection with Dudley Velcoro?"
Instantly, Iris’s curiosity arises. Now, she began to recall a few files she had obtained from Ruby’s database a few days ago.
In a hurry, she opened the files. When she found what she was looking for, she almost jumped out of her chair upon seeing the man in the room naked with Ruby—the corrupt police officer!
