Chapter 102: Second Mission
Chapter 102: Second Mission
Confusion washed over her. Her bedroom didn’t face the street, so if Justin had passed by her house, he wouldn’t have seen the open window unless he had been behind her house.
She suddenly felt creepy and responded quickly to Justin’s text.
[Iris: ] How did you know?
Justin, who stood on one of the tree branches not far from Iris’s house, smiled as he looked at his cell phone. He casually typed and sent his response.
[Justin: ] Know what? (Confused emoji)
[Iris: ] About my window? How do you know it wasn’t locked!? (Question emoji)
[Justin: ] Huh! So, it really wasn’t locked? Damn!! I should practice my new skills.
[Justin: ] Now I can predict the future for real. (LOL emoji)
Iris was utterly speechless reading his nonsensical response. ’Gosh! This foolish Justin, even if we don’t meet, he still manages to give me a headache!’
She walked back to her bed and lay down. Before going to sleep, she sent a thank-you message to him and then turned off her cell phone. She didn’t want that fool to wake her up with more texts.
A few seconds after closing her eyes, she felt something in her hand. Surprisingly, she could see her invisible cell phone when she raised her hand.
’Huh!? Why does this invisible phone appear without me summoning it?’
Looking at Lucian’s handsome yet cold expression sent a shiver down her spine; Lucian’s golden eyes seemed to stare at her. It was the first time she had experienced goosebumps from a wallpaper picture.
However, once again, she feels something about this man piqued her curiosity. She had just noticed that he had a similar eye color to Xavier. She had read somewhere that only a tiny percentage of people on Earth had this rare eye color. Yet, she had encountered a few of them shortly since she had been reborn into young Iris’s body.
She couldn’t determine whether this was a blessing or a curse for her future. As a wave of goosebumps crept up her neck, she shook her head, trying to shake off her thoughts and open the text message from Lucian.
[Lucian: ] Iris Gray, this is your second assignment. Please read the attached file for your next mission.
Iris was jolted awake from her sleep. She sat up, her hand trembling as she stared at her phone. Slowly, she opened the attachment, her heart racing as she anticipated discovering her next target. She hoped that this time, it wouldn’t be another sinner like Alberto West, her first target.
2nd Target:
<Name: Dudley Velcoro>
<Age: 40 yo>
<Sin: Corrupt Officier>
<Status: Death>
<Max Target to kill: Four Days>
Iris was stunned, staring at the file. For a moment, she couldn’t react to the revelation that her next target was an active police officer, and this person lived in another city, Darkhill City.
"Damn it! So, I have to go there again?" She couldn’t help but curse. Just the thought of driving there alone for three hours already drained her.
She also believed that she would likely need to stay there for at least one night, which made her even more reluctant. Since learning about her grandmother’s illness, she was afraid to leave her alone in the house. Moreover, she had already promised Xavier that she wouldn’t go anywhere.
’Four days! At least... I have more time to complete this job this time.’
Iris resumed reading Dudley Velcoro’s report. After a few more minutes, she finally finished. She closed the file, and after a few seconds, her invisible cell phone also vanished from her hand.
She decided to set aside her second assignment for now. She still had plenty of time. Right now, she needed to rest.

The following day, Iris hurried downstairs in the dim light with a plan to prepare breakfast for herself and Grandma. However, even before she reached the first floor, the sound of someone working in the kitchen and the warm illumination of the living room caught her attention.
’Is Grandma awake?’ Iris wondered, quickening her pace. She was momentarily speechless as she entered the kitchen, observing her grandmother already engrossed in breakfast preparations.
"Huh!? You’re down so early!?" Cassandra exclaimed in surprise, her eyes widening at the sight of Iris. This was a first—usually, Iris never came down before sunrise, wearing her nightgown, her hair long and messy. Even though she looks like this, she still looks gorgeous.
"G-Grandma, I just wanted to make breakfast," Iris stammered as she walked toward the kitchen. "Let me help you..."
"Are you hungry?" Cassandra smiled, eyeing Iris.
"Yeah. What did you make this morning, Grandma!?" Iris glanced at her grandmother, but her grandmother interrupted her before she could offer assistance.
"Oh dear, no need to help me. You just need to make our morning coffee..." Cassandra gently ushered her out of the kitchen.
Iris felt disappointed because she couldn’t assist her grandmother. However, she obediently followed her instructions, walking over to the coffee maker to start brewing their morning coffee.
"Grandma, why did you get up so early?" Iris asked curiously, as they typically breakfast at 8 AM. However, it was only 6 AM, and her grandmother was already preparing their meal.
Before Cassandra responded to Iris’s question, she smiled warmly at her.
"Dear, did you not know? Us old folks have much shorter sleep cycles compared to you young ones..."
"What! Really?" Iris exclaimed in surprise.
"If you doubt Grandma, you can always ask Google," Cassandra chuckled, shaking her head in amusement at Iris’s disbelieving expression. "Well, I typically wake up at this hour and delight in cooking for my darling granddaughter," she continued cheerfully.
Iris didn’t find joy in her grandma’s words; instead, a sense of sadness washed over her as she recalled her grandma’s illness. She could guess that her grandma did this because she knew her time together with her might be limited.
Just thinking about this caused pain in her heart, like someone had rubbed salt in her wound.
Iris lowered her head, hiding her teary eyes.
