Chapter 45: Alex, Do You Like Aurora Moon?
Aurora was unsure how to respond. She kept her lips tightly sealed and remained silent, as the explanation she had given earlier felt the most natural.
"Have you forgotten how to speak?" Alex asked again, his tone growing impatient.
Taking a deep sigh, she replied helplessly, "Alex, didn’t you say earlier not to give the same explanation? I don’t have any other explanation apart from that."
’Is she telling the truth?’ Alex thought, looking at her innocent expression with confusion.
They stared at each other, remaining in silence for a while.
Soon after, Alex took a deep breath, stepped a few paces away from her, and placed a cigarette between his lips after retrieving it from his pocket.
He didn’t light the cigarette immediately; instead, he gazed at the moon in the dark sky, trying to calm his restless thoughts. His suspicions about the girl grew when he noticed her walking toward Aurora’s house in the middle of the night.
...
Earlier, when he intended to get something from the kitchen, his feet led him to the backyard, where he unexpectedly found himself at Aurora’s house.
He was shocked to see a woman trying to open the gate.
For a moment, he thought it was Aurora finally showing herself to him.
However, his hopes of meeting Aurora vanished when he noticed her gray hair.
...
He could only scold himself for expecting something impossible to happen.
’Can you stop hoping that Rory is still alive? She’s dead. Rory won’t return. And she’s dead without knowing how much you cared and loved her. So, she’s not even going to return in your dreams! Stop this silly wish...’
Alex sighed deeply before lighting a cigarette and taking a long drag.
After blowing the smoke into the air, he heard the girl’s soft voice behind him.
"Alex, would you please believe me? I really couldn’t sleep. It must be because this was my first night moving into your house. When I saw the backyard from my bedroom window, I decided to go out and walk in the garden to calm my nerves."
Aurora paused for a moment when she noticed Alex finally turn to look at her.
A smile appeared on her lips as she saw his expression, which was now calm and no longer gloomy or annoyed like a few moments ago.
"This place is so tranquil and peaceful; its vibe differs greatly from my house. I’ve never stayed in a place like this before and felt completely immersed in its beauty and tranquility..."
"Without realizing it, I found myself at the lovely stone house in the back. I was even more captivated by the gorgeous garden surrounding the stone house..."
Aurora smiled faintly as she reflected on her words. She felt terrible for lying to him, but she had no choice.
"I’m sorry, Alex... I’m sorry if I upset you. I know I explored this area without asking the staff if it’s okay or asking for your permission. I promise I won’t do it again..."
She bowed slightly to express her guilt before walking toward the house.
However, Alex’s voice stopped her before she could walk too far.
"No. It’s okay. I am not mad at you..." His heavy but soothing voice surprised her.
She turned back to him and watched as he threw away his cigarette and stepped on it before walking toward her.
Aurora’s heart tightened when she saw him pause just a few steps away. Her hands clenched tightly as she waited for him to speak.
"Let’s go inside; it’s getting too chilly out here, and you are not wearing proper clothes for the weather," Alex said as he walked past Aurora and made his way into the house.
She sighed silently as she followed him inside.
They both remained quiet as they climbed to the second floor.
Just before they reached their separate bedrooms, Aurora suddenly gathered the courage to ask him something.
She stopped and turned to face him. "Alex, can I ask you something?"
Alex paused before opening his bedroom door and turned to look at her, giving a slight nod.
"Do you like Aurora Moon?"

The next morning.
Aurora lay still in her bed despite having woken up thirty minutes earlier.
Even after being reborn in Aurora Spencer’s body, she could not change her habits from her previous life—she always woke up before five. She growled lazily while glancing at the dark sky outside.
She tried to go back to sleep but couldn’t. Alex’s words from the night before echoed in her mind.
"You have no business to know whom I like or dislike. Please stop wasting my time by asking such unnecessary questions!"
Although Alex was annoyed and refused to answer her question, his gaze upon hearing the question betrayed him.
She could see the truth in that gaze—he liked Aurora Moon.
"Alex, do you like me? Why do you like me? I remember you never saw me as a woman..." Aurora muttered softly, gazing at the white ceiling above and shielding her eyes with her arms.
Aurora felt a whirlwind of emotions swirling within her as she considered this possibility, creating a storm inside.
’How could Alex possibly fall for me? Why did he never express it? No, that can’t be right. He’s someone who doesn’t keep things to himself... He would have told me immediately if he liked me, wouldn’t he?’
Countless questions and tangled thoughts tormented her, making her head feel spinning.
Now she understood why Alex had completely ignored her and seemed to dislike her the first time they met. He even refused to call her by her name, Aurora.
"Alex, what should I do about you? Should I be honest about who I am? Should I tell you that I’m Rory, reborn in this little girl’s body?" she asked, hoping to find clarity amid her confusion.
The silence lingered in the air.
Aurora took a deep breath and buried her face in a pillow.
She tried to push thoughts of Alex out of her mind, but her efforts were in vain.
Knowing that he had liked her in her past life made her uncertain how to act around him.
