Rebirth as The Billionaire's Seventh Wife -
Chapter 39: Who Are You?
Chapter 39: Who Are You?
Aurora gasped slightly, surprised to hear his words. ’Why did he say that? Did he change his mind?’ she wondered, puzzled.
"Alex, I’m confused. You clearly stated that there’s no romance in our marriage. Why are you now saying it’s not fake?" Aurora asked, seeking clarification.
"You’re right! There’s no love or romance in this marriage. Nevertheless, legally, you are my wife. You are officially Mrs. Graystone. Do not ever tell anyone or say in front of me that our marriage is fake," he insisted.
As she gazed into his fierce eyes, Aurora felt compelled to respond. However, the words caught in her throat. She could only smile weakly and nod in agreement.
"Thank you, Miss Spencer," Alex mumbled softly, worried that he might upset her after his harsh words earlier.
"You don’t need to say that; I understand. However, I need you to do something, Alex."
His eyebrows raised slightly as he asked, "What is it?"
"Please, just call me Aurora. I feel uncomfortable when you call me that. Besides, you need to get used to calling me Aurora. Others might become suspicious if they hear you..."
Alex tightened his grip on the steering wheel. His mind resisted the idea of addressing another woman by that name. Whenever he tried to say it, he felt like he was betraying Aurora.
Noticing his hesitation to say words, Aurora continued, "I understand why you can’t call me that; it’s because your late personal assistant had the same name as mine..."
"However, Alex, you can’t avoid saying my name forever. You should know that even though my name is the same as hers, I will never replace her. I know that well."
Alex was stunned to hear her words. "Who told you that?"
"Alvin—" Aurora quickly closed her mouth, feeling terrible for putting Alvin in such a difficult position.
He straightened his back, feeling all the blood rush to his face in anger. How could Alvin have exposed the truth about Aurora to this girl? ’How dare he!’
"Alex, please don’t be mad at Alvin... and I hope you’ll call me Aurora, okay?" she pleaded in her soft, desperate voice.
Alex gazed into her bright blue eyes. He was taken aback, feeling as if she had enchanted him; it prompted him to say, "Hmm..." Just before he could clarify something, her stunning smile silenced him.
"Thank you, Alex. Thank you..." She couldn’t hide her happiness.
She felt like herself again when they called her Aurora, as she always felt out of place when someone referred to her as Miss Spencer or Mrs. Graystone.
Gradually, the cold air inside the car warmed up. Aurora felt the tension fade and noticed a slight smile cross Alex’s lips. She began to feel a bit more relaxed.
"Alex, let’s go home. I feel bad about making my Aunt Tina wait..." She smiled at him and turned to look at the street ahead.
The car started moving again.
Aurora tried to come up with any subjects or words to begin a conversation, but it wasn’t until they reached Green Hills that she found something to ask him.
"Alex, I think I need to buy a car. I hope you don’t mind if I park it in your garage," she said, worried he might not allow her vehicle in his underground garage.
Alex looked at her in confusion. He had plenty of cars available, so why did she feel the need to buy one?
Turning to her, he asked, "Why do you need a car?"
"I can see that your house is quite a distance from my campus. Also, no public transport or taxi is available in the area, right?" She said.
"Yes, you really need your own car," he replied calmly.
"Yeah. That’s why my only option is to drive a car, whether to go to campus or anywhere else," she gleefully explained.
Alex fell silent for a moment before he asked, "I do have a large garage where you could park your car, but you don’t have to buy a new one. Do you even have a driver’s license?"
Instantly, Aurora vented her frustration, remembering that this young girl didn’t have it. She had no option but to take a test to obtain one.
"No, I don’t have it. But I plan to get it as soon as possible..." Aurora explained. But just thinking about it makes her feel exhausted. She must take the written and driving tests as part of the standard process to obtain her driver’s license.
"You don’t need to go there yourself. I will ask Alvin to handle your driver’s license. And you don’t need to buy a car since I have plenty in my garage."
Aurora feels relieved, knowing that Alex can bypass the system to obtain her driver’s license. She also intends to accept his generous offer, fully aware that he has many top-notch cars, and most are seldom driven.
"Thank you, Alex," she replies, genuinely smiling at him for the first time since they got into the car. She feels touched by his kindness.
"No need to thank me. But because you are my wife, I won’t let you drive yourself," he said sternly.
Knowing she couldn’t dispute his words, Aurora’s genuine smile slowly faded.
’Who is this man? Why does he care about his wife?’ She stared at him momentarily, wondering, ’Has he been reborn too? Has he become a different person?’
Aurora couldn’t understand Alex’s change in attitude. It was so different from how he had acted in his previous marriages.
She recalled that Alex had never cared about his wife. He even let them stay on his property, far from his office and mansion. He gave himself an excuse not to return to his wife’s house to see them before they filed for divorce.
But now?
This man was doing everything differently. Was he acting this way merely to stop his mother from interfering in his marriage?
Or is he interested in me because my name is Aurora?
