Chapter 40: Return to Alex’s House
"Alex, I think, well, I know... I should drive myself instead of having someone else drive me. Because that’s the way I prefer."
When she saw him, he remained silent. She continued, "I’m worried that people will be curious about me because they all know I can’t afford a chauffeur."
After a few seconds, a soft chuckle escaped his lips, but he still said nothing.
Knowing his personality, she couldn’t bear the silence any longer. "Alex, I’m sorry to ask again... Your silence means you agree with me, right?" she said innocently.
"You’re quite interesting, Aurora Spencer. How can you assume that my silence means agreement?" Alex shook his head, amused by the girl. "Of course, I don’t agree."
Aurora’s gaze gradually sparkled with happiness—successfully prompting him to speak—but she hid her smile.
She shook her head silently before saying, "Alex, why won’t you let me drive? I can drive myself; I don’t need a driver."
Aurora understood that all the drivers Alex had assigned to his wife in the past were actually spies in disguise.
They reported everything to Alex: what his wife did, whom they met, and every detail in between. Additionally, he also hacked into their cell phones.
Aurora was thankful that she knew how to protect herself. Alex would never succeed in bypassing her security measures.
She had already implemented a feature in her firewall designed to send Patrick, his hacker, to the shadow realm if he attempted to hack into her system.
Alex didn’t respond to her immediately; he stayed silent, which only increased Aurora’s curiosity as she awaited his answer.
When he heard her take a deep breath as if she were about to protest, he finally turned to look at her.
"Do you realize how many malicious people want to take revenge on me? If they find out that you are my wife, they might kidnap you."
She understood precisely what Alex wanted to convey.
As the sole heir to the Graystone family company and the owner of a successful business like Stardust Group, it was clear that many rivals were trying to undermine him and hoped to see his business fail.
For this reason, he always had a bodyguard with him whenever he left the house, whether standing beside him or lurking at a distance. Not many people knew that she was one of those trained to protect him.
A few times, Aurora wanted to tell him that she didn’t need anyone else to protect her because she was capable enough to defend herself.
However, how could she express that? She believed this man had already read Aurora Spencer’s profile. This young girl had no record of ever training in martial arts.
Not only that, but she didn’t even enjoy sports; she preferred sitting behind her computer to play and create games or code. In other words, her current body was relatively weak; at least, that’s what she thought until she could train her new body.
Helplessly, she sighed deeply in silence, turning her gaze away from him. For now, she could only accept his arrangement.
’You only need to stay by his side for two years! After that, you’re free, Rory! Cheer up...’ she tried to console herself.
"If you’re worried about your driver’s license, don’t be. I’ll have someone create one for you."
Aurora wanted to keep Alex unaware of her activities, fearing that he might become suspicious of her.
***
At Green Hills.
Aurora tried to suppress her anxiety as their car passed through the main gate.
Finally, she arrived at the house where she had lived for many years, filling her heart with joy and sadness.
When the car finally stopped at the main entrance, she smiled as she saw Martin, her trusted confidant who had helped her manage the household. He looked just as he had the last time she saw him.
However, when her gaze locked onto his eyes, she noticed sadness lingering there—similar to the anguish she had seen reflected in Alex’s eyes.
"Welcome home, Young Madam," Martin said, giving a slight nod to Aurora before greeting Alex as well.
Aurora swallowed before answering him calmly, "Hello, sir..." her tone slightly shaking as she almost called him Martin.
"Martin, ma’am... Please just call me that," he corrected her with a polite smile. "I’m the butler of this house. If you need anything, you can call me or your designated nanny, Tina. She’s currently in her dorm."
Hearing Tina’s name made Aurora’s stomach churn again, recalling what happened in the car during the call.
She cleared her throat to thank Martin before following Alex, who had already entered the house without waiting for her.
Aurora couldn’t find the words to describe how she felt returning to this house after the bizarre events she experienced. She died and has now been reborn—returned as Aurora Spencer, a completely different person and identity.
As she walked, she scanned the area and was surprised that everything looked as she remembered.
The surroundings were unchanged since the last time she had seen them.
So focused on looking around, Aurora didn’t notice when Alex stopped before her.
Later, when her forehead touched his sturdy chest, she froze. She quickly stepped back.
"Sorry..." Aurora muttered softly. She didn’t hear his response but heard him speak to Martin.
And just like that, Alex left and walked toward the back door without saying anything or gesturing to her. Not even a nod.
Aurora was curious about where Alex was going but knew the door led to the house’s backyard, where Aurora Moon’s small stone house was.
"Madam..." Martin’s voice prompted Aurora to turn her gaze toward him. "Please follow me this way, ma’am," he said politely, gesturing for her to walk ahead.
With heavy steps, she approached the stairs leading to the second floor.
A strange feeling stirred in her heart, making her hesitant to ascend.
Her legs felt eager to retreat and run back to her stone house in the backyard.
"After you, ma’am..."
Finally, Aurora found the strength to move.
Once she reached the second floor, she hesitated again, uncertain where Martin had prepared a room for her.
"This way, ma’am..." he said, pointing toward a door opposite Alex’s bedroom.
