Chapter 35: Why Are You Avoiding Me?

During class, Aurora struggled to stop thinking about Alex. Living in the same house as Alex sparked many thoughts and left her mind feeling uneasy.

She felt anxious and couldn’t concentrate on the lecturer’s words. Before she knew it, class was over.

The thought of returning to Green Hill made her lose her appetite. She declined David’s invitation to join him in the cafeteria and went to the library for her lunch break before her afternoon class.

As Aurora was about to leave the campus, David stopped her.

"Aurora, why are you in such a hurry? Are you headed somewhere?"

"I’m going home and get some sleep!" She made a random excuse while walking, but David quickly caught up to her.

"Oh, okay. Let me drive you home," he offered while trying to match her brisk steps.

"Thanks, but no need, David. I need to stop by somewhere before going home. You can go home on your own..." She tried to convince him.

"Huh!? So you’re not going home then?" David asked, confused.

Aurora finally stopped and turned to face him, her composed demeanor replaced with annoyance.

"David, can you just leave me alone? I need to do something alone. And I don’t want you or anyone else to stick their noses about it," Aurora said, narrowing her eyes at him. She was growing tired of his clinginess.

David was taken aback by Aurora’s unusual annoyance. He chuckled awkwardly, not wanting to upset her further while scratching his head.

"Okay, okay. I won’t pressure you, but could you at least smile? You look way less pretty when angry like that," he teased.

Aurora was surprised to find herself venting her annoyance at David.

"I’m sorry, David if you thought that was rude, but I’m in a hurry and have a family matter to attend to. I’ll call you tomorrow, David. Is that okay with you?" she said, smiling at him.

"Hmm, yeah, that’s alright. I’ll go home now. See you tomorrow..." David said, grinning widely after seeing her beautiful smile.

He waved his hand while walking back to the parking area.

Aurora didn’t linger there; she hurried to the café near the bus stop. While waiting for Alvin, she ordered her favorite latte and cake.

Sitting at a table facing the street, she enjoyed her coffee while trying to ignore Alex, who was again starting to invade her thoughts.

Even a latte and her favorite cheesecake couldn’t relieve the anxiety and tension that consumed her thoughts.

’Calm down, Rory! You need to relax...’ She tried to compose herself.

Her eyes tracked the car parked in front of the café. It had been thirty minutes, yet Alvin’s car still hadn’t arrived.

Aurora slowly lifted her cup, surprised to find it empty.

"My latte is gone, and Alvin still hasn’t arrived? Is he busy and unable to read my text message?"

She glanced at the cell phone sitting on the table.

"Or did I accidentally send the wrong message to someone?"

Her heart tightened as a thought crossed her mind. She quickly grabbed her cell phone to check the message she had sent.

Aurora’s eyes widened as she read the text she had sent earlier. Covering her mouth in shock.

"Oh my goodness! Why on earth did I send that text to Alex? What were you thinking, Rory? Why did you text him?"

She lightly slapped her forehead, scolding herself for such a minor mistake. She had intended to send the message to Alvin but accidentally sent it to Alex instead.

"Hi, I’m done. You can pick me up at the café. Thank you..."

Aurora read the text several times before placing the phone back on the table.

However, just a few seconds later, her cell phone vibrated again. She picked it up and was taken aback when she saw the name on the screen.

"Alex..."

Even just saying his name made her heart tighten with anxiety.

She remained frozen, unable to move until the phone finally stopped vibrating, and the screen went dark.

After taking several deep breaths, she silently wished Alex wouldn’t call her again.

"Should I take a taxi and have Alvin pick me up near Green Hill?" she wondered.

A text message from Alex appeared before she could search for Alvin’s phone number.

"Why didn’t you pick up my call?"

Aurora sighed deeply, guilty for trying to avoid picking up his phone call.

She wasn’t sure why, but meeting Alex again left her puzzled about her past identity as Aurora Moon and her current identity as Aurora Spencer.

Since her rebirth, she has always felt lost looking into his eyes. She worried that she might unwittingly reveal her true identity.

Just as Aurora was about to type a reply, her phone rang again. This time, it was a call from Alex instead of a text message.

She answered immediately, concerned that he might be upset. "Hello, Alex..."

"Why are you avoiding me? Didn’t you ask me to pick you up?" His irritated tone made Aurora feel like her throat would instantly dry.

"Ah... yes, I..." Aurora couldn’t complete her sentence because Alex interrupted her.

"Hurry up! I’m waiting in front of the café."

’He arrived?’ Aurora wonders, turning her gaze toward the parking lot.

She was shocked to see a familiar car—a car she knew he would drive when he was keen to drive and never let his chauffeur drive.

’Why does he drive alone?’ Her eyes were still fixed on the car. Slowly, the glass window rolls down, and their eyes meet.

"How long do you expect me to wait? Can you hurry up?" His icy tone sends a shiver down her spine.

Aurora grabbed her bag and left the café immediately. Sitting next to Alex made her feel awkward.

"Didn’t I tell you to call Alvin for a ride? Why did you text me instead?"

Alex’s question broke the silence, prompting Aurora to vent her frustration about sending the message to the wrong person.

"Can you please stop being angry with me? I should have texted Alvin, but I accidentally sent it to you," Aurora wanted to say, but she held back. She didn’t want to make Alex even angrier.

"Sorry, Alex... I promise I won’t text you again."
