Chapter 34: What a Surprise!
Chapter 34: What a Surprise!
"No, of course not, Alvin. I’m sorry to hear about what happened to Aurora. I can imagine how much she means to you all, and the fact that she died at such a young age is truly a tragedy," Aurora replied quickly.
Alvin let out a deep sigh. "Yes, she is still young and not married. Not even a boyfriend. Her fate is so tragic and miserable..."
...
A moment later.
"You mentioned that Aurora isn’t married and not in any relationship. But she’s not alone, right? What about her family? They must be sad about her death, right?"
Aurora asked, her hands clenched. She wanted to know about her father.
"Ma’am, we call her Miss Rory..." Alvin paused, glancing at Aurora through the rearview mirror before continuing. "Miss Rory was an important part of Mr. Alex’s household staff, and she died leaving behind a father who cared and loved her so much."
"Uncle Moon misses his daughter very much. I heard Uncle Moon took a two-week leave, and fortunately, the Old Master agreed to it. No one knows where he is now; he might have returned to his village to mourn his daughter."
Aurora’s hands turned cold and hurt when she heard about her father. The thought of her poor father made her heartache.
"Not only does Uncle Moon feel this loss, but so does Boss Alex, along with all the staff in his household," Alvin continued to explain.
’Alex? Is he still sad and mourn my death?’ Aurora wondered, feeling increasingly curious. She tried to remain calm while waiting for Alvin to continue speaking, but her heart raced again when a thought crossed her mind.
She asked impatiently, "Alvin, did your boss fall in love with his assistant, Miss Aurora?" Hearing her own words sent a shiver down her spine.
Alvin was taken aback by Aurora’s question. He didn’t know how to respond, fearing that sharing his suspicions about Alex could upset Alex’s new wife.
"I’m sorry, ma’am, but I know nothing about it. All I can tell is that my poor boss nearly visits Miss Rory daily. He usually stays there for about an hour, just chatting before her gravestone..."
He shut his mouth quickly, unable to believe he had revealed this to his boss’s new wife.
’You’re such an idiot, Alvin! How could you let that slip? You’re in trouble... If the young madam gets jealous, you might lose your job...’ Alvin lightly shook his head, mentally scolding himself. He returns to focus only on the street ahead.
Aurora could no longer hear Alvin’s words clearly; she was too stunned to realize that Alex visited her grave each day.
’What is he doing? Why is he going there?’ She found it hard to understand Alex; this was unlike him.
Alvin panicked even more when he glanced in the rearview mirror and saw Aurora’s expression, which showed how shocked she was. It was clear that she was upset.
After softly clearing his throat to gain her attention.
"Young Madam, I apologize if my words upset you. Please don’t worry. Even though you share the same name, my boss will not overlook you. You are his legal wife, while Miss Rory is merely an assistant and is no longer present. Please don’t feel jealous of Miss Rory," he pleaded.
Aurora could only chuckle to herself at Alvin’s request. How could she possibly be jealous of herself?
"Alvin, don’t worry. I’m not jealous..." A smile spread across her lips. She continued, "I just feel sorry for Miss Aurora, who passed away so suddenly and left a deep impact on those around her. She must have been very kind to them, right?"
"Absolutely! She was incredibly kind to everyone. That’s why losing her affected us so deeply." Alvin’s voice trembled; his hand tightened on the steering wheel.
Aurora feels her heart warm at Alvin’s words. She is happy, yet simultaneously sad.
"Alvin, may I know where they buried Miss Aurora?" she asked casually. However, her heart tightened, yearning to know her final resting place.
She guessed that her father would lay her to rest in a cemetery near her mother, in her mother’s hometown.
"Miss Rory is buried next to her grandfather..." Alvin paused, unsure how to explain the blood relation between Moon and Graystone. After a moment of thought, he decided to be honest with her.
"Young Madam, I’m not certain if your husband has brought this up yet, but Miss Rory was part of the Moon family. Both families are connected by a blood-bound agreement, which is why all Moon family members, including Miss Rory, are laid to rest in the Graystone family cemetery..."
Alvin continues to explain the old story of the Moon and Graystone, but Aurora no longer pays attention. She understands precisely what he is trying to explain.
Aurora’s mind was filled with questions. It was difficult for her to believe that they had buried her there.
She never expected they would choose that location, especially given her strained relationship with Alex’s parents, who were not particularly fond of her.
Having obtained the information she needed, Aurora decided to stop asking Alvin any more questions.
As Aurora turned her gaze outside, she was stunned to see they were nearing her campus. She quickly asked Alvin to pull over at the bus stop.
She didn’t want anyone to see her getting out of Alex’s luxury car and be suspicious about it.
"Ma’am, are you sure to stop here? We’re still quite a distance from your campus," Alvin asked after stopping the car.
"It’s fine. There’s still time for me to run. Oh, right! I’ll wait for you at that cafe after my class," she said, pointing to the cafe near the bus stop. Then, she hurriedly opened the car door.
Aurora said nothing to Alvin; she ran straight to the main gate.
Alvin didn’t leave immediately; he kept his gaze on Aurora until she was entirely out of sight.
"What an interesting young lady. Boss Alex must be falling for her. That’s why he brings her to his main house, right!?" he muttered before grabbing his cell phone.
"Sir, I’ve dropped the young lady off at her campus. Should I wait for her or return to the office?"
Moments later, a text message from Alex arrived:
"Return to the office!"
