Chapter 30: Prenup?

Watching the door close behind her, Aurora sighed softly as she looked around Alex’s vast but nearly empty office.

After a few moments, she walked over to the seating area. She settled onto the large and comfy single sofa, waiting for him to arrive.

This was the first time she had been in Alex’s office, waiting for him. Usually, she accompanied him everywhere, even into important meeting rooms. The only time she didn’t go with him when she was guarding him was when he visited the bathroom.

A faint smile graced her lips as she imagined her precious life; she had devoted herself entirely to him. But now, she returned here not as his assistant but as his wife. She never thought this would happen, yet here she was.

After a few more minutes of waiting, Aurora started to feel anxious. She had waited almost thirty minutes, yet the tightly closed door stayed shut.

"Did he forget about me?" Aurora stifled a laugh, imagining Alex completely overlooking her and rushing off to handle his work.

However, she quickly dismissed that thought; it seemed impossible for him to ask her to wait here only to abandon her, right?

Aurora tried to calm her restless thoughts as she picked up a business magazine featuring Alex on the cover. She attempted to read the article about him. Still, the words blurred together in her mind, resembling random letters and numbers.

Frustrated that she couldn’t keep any words in her mind, Aurora closed the magazine, her anxiety still lingering.

She placed the magazine on the table, and a troubling thought crossed her mind.

"No way! Did Alex return to his apartment to make me wait here?" Aurora was speechless at the possibility.

She knew Alex had a house on the other wing of this floor where he could rest or stay overnight if he needed to work.

"Should I check on him?" Aurora narrowed her eyes as she glanced toward the door.

Before she could react, the door swung open, and Alex appeared. His eyes stared sharply in her direction, enough to make her even more nervous.

’My goodness, Rory! Can you calm down a little? This man will never suspect it was you. Remember? Your face looks completely different with this girl. Come on, relax!’ Aurora tried to steady herself as she turned her gaze away from him.

With her sidelong gaze, she saw him sitting across from her. Not wanting to make him even colder toward her, she turned to look at him.

"Miss Spencer," Alex called in a dull tone. "I need you to read and sign this prenup before we finalize our marriage."

Aurora was stunned. She believed her father had taken care of everything. Why was he proposing another prenup?

She stared at the paper on the table without picking it up. Her gaze momentarily fixed on the document, prompting Alex to raise his eyebrows at her frozen expression.

After waiting another minute and noticing that she seemed in a trance, Alex let out a silent sigh, feeling impatient.

"Miss Spencer, I understand you might be confused about this new prenup, but I need you to read the agreement carefully. Please feel free to review it, clause by clause, if necessary, and let me know if you want to add or remove anything. I will have someone revise it," he said sternly.

Alex’s tone sounded impatient to Aurora’s ears. She swiftly picked up the prenup and read it—she didn’t want to dampen his mood so early in the morning.

This isn’t the first time Aurora has reviewed the prenuptial agreement. She is familiar with it, having drafted all of the prenups for his previous six marriages.

However, Aurora was shocked as she read the terms presented this time. They were noticeably different from what he had typically required his ex-wives to sign.

The statement caught her attention: "The marriage will last for two years until Aurora Spencer graduates from college and secures a decent job."

Typically, there were no clauses like this in Alex’s prenups before, but his marriages consistently ended before reaching six months.

In his past marriage, Alex orchestrated his divorce; he exposed his wife’s dark secret and either filed for divorce himself or his ex-wives to do so.

He never cared about his ex-wives and was never romantically involved with them during their marriages. He married them only because his mother forced him to.

But now, she is here, holding the prenup. She hadn’t planned to marry him for long; she expected their marriage to last just six months, like his previous one.

The thought of staying with him and meeting his family for that long suddenly makes her feel dizzy.

Putting her worries aside, Aurora read another clause that drew her attention.

There would be no emotional connection or physical attraction in the marriage. They would share a home but sleep in separate rooms.

’Good! How could I sleep with him? He is my former master...’ Just thinking about it makes her nauseous.

But another clause made her even dizzier: She would accompany him to family events, and neither his family nor anyone else would know that their marriage was just a contract.

She wouldn’t be permitted to have a boyfriend during their marriage, but she would be free to date once the two-year contract ends.

He would offer her financial security during their marriage and guarantee significant alimony after their separation.

Aurora was delighted with those conditions and felt grateful that this was merely a contracted marriage, not a real one.

...

When Alex saw her finish reading the prenup, he asked, "Miss Spencer, is there anything you’d like to add or take out?"

Aurora turned to him and nodded slowly. She had no intention of changing the prenup, but she just needed him to promise her something.

"You can say it now, Miss Spencer. I’ll ask my secretary to revise it immediately." He suspected this young lady might request a higher alimony than the amount he had written.

"No need to change it, sir. But I want you to promise me our marriage won’t be exposed in the media."

Aurora didn’t want her friends or anyone else to label her as Alexander Graystone’s ex-wife when they eventually divorced. She yearned to be free from him and his family, hoping to continue her life in peace.
