Chapter 113: Wish

The riverbank buzzed with soft chatter as the trio relaxed under the shade of a large willow tree. The rustling leaves added a pleasant backdrop to the flowing water. Xiao Mei dipped her feet near the edge while keeping her fishing rod steady, humming a little tune under her breath.

Bai Long leaned back with a grin. "Let’s make this more interesting. Whoever catches the most fish gets a free dinner from the other two."

"Mm? Bai gege, you’re that confident?" Xiao Mei giggled, eyes sparkling. "Alright, I accept!"

Igaris gave a small shrug. "Fine by me."

Moments passed quietly. Birds chirped nearby, and the river flowed steadily. Then suddenly—

"Ah! My line!" Xiao Mei gasped, standing quickly.

The rod bent sharply, and she pulled with all her might. The water splashed, and a silver-scaled fish leapt from the surface before dropping into her net.

"I am the first!" she declared proudly, holding up her catch with a huge smile.

Bai Long clapped lightly. "Looks like Lady Luck favors you today."

Igaris smiled faintly. "Well done, Xiao Mei."

As they resumed fishing, more villagers gathered nearby to enjoy the calm afternoon. A group of old men played chess under a tree. A woman sold skewered meat and sweet buns from a basket. The world here was peaceful. Warm.

For Igaris, it was an odd contrast to his usual life. No Chase. No blood. No war. No systems urging him toward domination. Just people... living.

He cast his line again, gazing at the water with a rare softness in his expression.

Xiao Mei leaned closer and whispered, "Yuhan gege, you seem different today. Happier. Did something good happen?"

He didn’t reply right away. Then he said, "Maybe I’m just learning to enjoy moments like these."

She blinked in surprise, then nodded quietly, hiding her smile as she watched the water ripple around his fishing line.

"Ohh, looks like you’ve hooked one, Yuhan gege!" she announced excitedly.

Bai Long glanced over and grumbled, "Looks like I’m the one with the worst luck today."

Igaris laughed and pulled the fishing rod with a sharp jerk, the line creaking from the explosive force behind it.

Then — plop!

A large fish flew out of the water and landed on the riverbank, flapping wildly.

The fishermen nearby gasped.

"Heavens! It’s a Rainbow Carp! And it’s huge!"

"Goodness, I have never seen one this big!"

"Uh-huh... I bet it weighs over 50 catties!"

"Wow! Yuhan caught it? I thought he always had the worst luck!"

Bai Long’s eyes widened. Not just because of the fish’s size, but because of the raw strength Yuhan had displayed. He had pulled that massive fish out of the water with almost no effort.

Bai Long’s gaze lingered on Igaris a moment longer, a flicker of suspicion hidden beneath his usual grin. But he masked it quickly, laughing along with the others.

"That’s insane, Yuhan. Are you sure you’re not secretly a Dao Child?" he joked, patting Igaris on the back with forced ease.

Igaris simply smiled. "Guess the river favored me after all."

Xiao Mei clapped her hands, her eyes sparkling with admiration. "Yuhan gege, that was amazing! Look how beautiful it is! I’ve never seen a Rainbow Carp this close before."

The fish shimmered under the sunlight — glistening with iridescent scales that changed hue with every movement. Reds, blues, greens and gold flickered across its body as it struggled in the net.

"Hey, don’t let it flop back in!" a child cried, and a few of the fishermen came running over with baskets and ropes to help secure it.

One of the elderly fishermen gave Igaris a long look, stroking his beard. "Young man, that fish is not just rare, it’s said to bring blessings. They only show up once or twice a year. You should offer it at the village shrine for good fortune."

Hearing that, Xiao Mei turned to Igaris. "We should really do that. I heard if you make a wish while offering it, it might come true."

Igaris raised a brow, amused by the local superstition. "Alright. Let’s offer it, then."

He hoisted the heavy fish onto his shoulder with ease, and together, the three of them made their way up the hill toward the ancient wooden shrine overlooking the river.

As they climbed the stone steps, Bai Long remained unusually quiet. He kept glancing sideways at Igaris, the gears in his head clearly turning.

"Who are you really, Yuhan?" he thought silently. "You were never this strong. Not even close."

Once they reached the top, the trio placed the Rainbow Carp on the offering table. Xiao Mei pressed her hands together and closed her eyes.

"I wish for everyone to stay safe... and for Yuhan gege to be accepted into the Soaring Dragon Sect," she whispered.

Igaris gave her a sidelong look, touched by the innocence and purity in her voice.

"Mei," he said gently. "Thank you."

She opened her eyes and smiled brightly. "It’s nothing. Just... promise you’ll always come back, okay?"

Igaris hesitated for a moment before giving her a short nod.

As wind chimes clinked softly above them and the sun began to lower into the western sky, it felt like the calm before a storm.

Igaris also made a wish, even though he didn’t fully believe in the myth. His wish was simple: to create a better world for everyone to live in.

More than revenge, he now truly desired to build a peaceful life for his future children and for others who had suffered like him.

And to create that world, he would give everything he had. Of course, in that world, his enemies would have no place.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, the trio parted ways, each heading in their own direction.

But when Igaris returned to his house, an unexpected message awaited him.

A letter from the Soaring Dragon Sect had arrived. He had been invited to appear at the sect immediately to take the entrance test and potentially become one of their outer disciples.

And so, another journey would begin — one that would lead him toward the soaring heights of the Soaring Dragon Sect.
