Chapter 112: Bai Long
Chapter 112: Bai Long
"Yuhan! Yuhan! Are you inside?"
The morning air was still fresh when Igaris, seated in a meditative posture, had his concentration broken by a familiar yet distant voice.
He opened his eyes with a quiet sigh and stepped outside.
There, in front of the old wooden house, stood a young man dressed in a crisp blue robe. His long purple hair flowed behind him, and his smile was both warm and striking. He had the kind of face that made people believe he was born for greatness — handsome and brimming with a natural heroic aura.
He was Bai Long, Yuhan’s other close friend beside Xiao Mei. A genuine Martial Warrior, and more importantly, someone who likely knew Yuhan well enough to sense anything strange.
Tricking him would not be easy.
Bai Long was already chatting casually with the old man, laughter filling the air like they’d done this a thousand times.
"Xiao Han, your friend is here. What are you doing standing there?" the old man called out to Igaris with a smile.
Igaris stepped forward, adjusting his expression to match Yuhan’s typical demeanor — quiet, respectful, maybe just a little awkward.
He gave Bai Long a nod and said, "Brother Bai, you came early today."
"Of course!" Bai Long grinned as he approached, patting Igaris’s shoulder. "I heard from the village that you caused a stir yesterday. Old man Hao, of all people, was talking about you. What the hell did you do?"
Igaris smiled faintly, choosing his words carefully. "I just showed him I’ve been working hard."
Bai Long raised a brow, amused. "Hard work, huh? You sure you’re not hiding some secret technique or an old master in the woods?"
The two of them chuckled, though Bai Long’s eyes still observed him closely.
Old Lin chuckled too and turned toward the kitchen. "You boys talk. I’ll prepare some breakfast."
Once the old man was gone, Bai Long leaned a bit closer and whispered, "You really are different now, Yuhan. I don’t know what happened, but I like it. You finally feel like someone walking the Martial Path. Keep it up."
Igaris nodded. "Thanks. I’ll be relying on your guidance from now on, Brother Bai."
Bai Long was briefly confused by Igaris’s last statement. But he didn’t dwell on it. He assumed Yuhan was just speaking out of formality, as he often did.
He had no idea that his friend had already been recommended to the Soaring Dragon Sect. If he knew, he would have been awestruck by now.
Igaris didn’t bother to clarify either.
After all, Elder Hao had only sent the recommendation letter yesterday. It would take at least two days to receive any sort of response.
Fortunately, he still had time. Each Dive allowed him to stay up to 14 days in the world, which was nowhere enough for what he had planned.
This wasn’t a beginner Dungeon. Once he left this world, the original Yuhan would regain consciousness. Unlike beginner-level Dives, the predecessors here weren’t destroyed or erased. If they were, tens of thousands of people across Martial Sanctuary would be dying mysteriously every day.
Instead, the original hosts remained unaware of what occurred while their bodies were controlled. They would simply wake up, confused and disoriented, with missing memories.
And when a Diver returned to the same world after the 3-day cooldown period, they would re-enter the same host body without harming the original person. The system somehow ensured that the soul possession didn’t cause permanent damage.
Still, it felt cruel to Igaris.
He understood what it meant to lose memories. To have your body moved and your will suppressed without consent. That part of this system disturbed him deeply.
This was where the guilt started to creep in.
What exactly was Orca? Why did its System operate this way? Why did it treat the inhabitants of these worlds like nothing more than tools?
He still couldn’t understand it. And he didn’t have the strength to change anything.
So for now, all he could do was keep moving forward. Keep growing. Keep getting stronger, no matter what it took.
Afterward, the duo gathered up with Xiao Mei and made their way to the riverbank for a quiet afternoon of fishing. Xiao Mei didn’t ask Igaris about his attempt to convince Elder Hao, assuming he had failed again. Similar things had happened many times before, and she didn’t want to reopen old wounds.
As they walked along the grassy path, Xiao Mei suddenly turned to Bai Long and said with a sweet smile,
"Bai gege, you’ve become more and more handsome ever since you joined the Soaring Dragon Sect as a Martial Warrior."
Bai Long chuckled in amusement. "And yet, you still adore Yuhan more than me, Xiao Mei. Why is that?" he asked teasingly.
Xiao Mei flushed red and looked away, twirling a strand of her black hair with her fingers.
"Bai gege, you’re so mean," she pouted, puffing her cheeks before falling silent in mock annoyance.
Bai Long glanced at Igaris and gave him a knowing smile, one that hinted at an old rivalry, perhaps even brotherly camaraderie.
Igaris simply smiled back in return and continued walking beside them.
When they reached the river, he was welcomed by a fascinating scene that calmed his mind. The river water sparkled under the golden afternoon light, and the wind drifted across its surface in a gentle, comforting way.
"Wow! Today is an excellent day for fishing. It looks like more villagers have come out than usual," Xiao Mei said cheerfully.
The fishermen nearby waved at them with friendly smiles, most likely drawn by Bai Long’s presence and his distinguished appearance.
Bai Long waved back and nodded politely.
Next, they set up their fishing equipment and sat on the moist riverbank without bothering about formality.
Their fishing lines slipped into the water, and soon a few curious children gathered around them.
This river was special. It was believed to favor those with great luck.
So every visit to this river brought with it a sense of playful anticipation like a small contest to see who among them held the greatest fortune.
