Chapter 108: Martial Sanctuary!
Chapter 108: Martial Sanctuary!
The streets leading to the Martial Sanctuary had quieted under the veil of twilight. Lanterns hung on ornate poles cast flickering golden light across the ancient stone path, illuminating the enormous silhouette that dominated the far end of the district.
The Martial Sanctuary Dungeon.
It stood like a forgotten temple from a myth, carved with ancient runes and dragon-like beasts coiled around its structure. The towering gate resembled the entrance to an otherworldly shrine, crowned with the symbol of Taichi carved into a weathered wooden board at the top like a sign of the balance between chaos and order.
A low fog coiled near the ground, adding to the surreal aura that hung around the Dungeon like a shroud of mystery.
Igaris and Shirley approached with their hoods drawn low, blending into the small crowd of other Divers gathering near the entrance.
The Empire’s guards were still stationed at the sides — five of them, armored in the Skadi Empire’s crimson and obsidian uniform. Their presence was a deterrent to troublemakers, but also a warning to those who might dare to enter the Dungeon without proper authorisation.
Igaris narrowed his eyes.
"Shirley, give me one of the Soul Connectors," he said.
Shirley nodded and handed him a stone-like object etched with strange runic patterns.
He placed it into his pocket as instructed, while Shirley kept her piece in hers.
"You should go inside now."
"But what about you? Aren’t you coming with me?" she asked worriedly.
"Of course I will. But I can’t enter publicly. I have a special ability that allows me to sneak in. You don’t have to worry. Just go ahead — I’ll meet you in that world. I promise."
"Then, I’ll hold onto it, Igaris."
Slightly relieved, Shirley joined the queue to enter the Dungeon, showing her old ID as a registered World Diver.
The line moved slowly as Shirley took her place, her fingers gently brushing the Soul Connector in her pocket. Though her expression was composed, her heart fluttered with unease. Igaris’ words echoed in her mind. The promise made softly, yet firm as stone.
She glanced back once.
Igaris stood at a distance, hidden under the shadow of a massive stone pillar. His gaze never left her, calm and unreadable. Even now, he exuded that strange charisma — silent, steady, overwhelming. Shirley took a breath and faced forward.
The guards barely glanced at her ID before nodding her through.
She stepped onto the ancient Temple. The runes beneath her boots lit up in response to her presence. A gentle hum filled the air. The Transfer Array activated, and brilliant spirals of pale blue light began rising around her.
Shirley closed her eyes as the energy surged upward, wrapping around her like a protective cocoon.
’I’ll wait for you there... Igaris,’ she thought, just before the world around her dissolved in radiance.
---
Back under the pillar, Igaris’ eyes narrowed as he watched the Dungeon swallow her figure.
No hesitation. Good.
He pulled the hood lower over his face, waiting for the guards to look away. The shift in their attention came exactly on time, when they laughed while slapping a Fake ID user.
"Phantom Shift"
Flick.
Instantaneously, his form vanished into shadow, leaving no trace. No footsteps. No presence. Like a phantom, he slipped past the stone railings and the guards with gust of wind.
They didn’t even notice that someone had already slipped inside the World Dungeon.
But someone else did.
A figure opened his eyes, locking onto Igaris’ phantom-like form.
"Sly Rat... I won’t let you get through!"
But it was already too late. The thief had entered the Dungeon.
"Overseer? Where are you going?" one of the guards asked as they noticed his movement.
The Overseer of Martial Sanctuary — an old man with a long white beard and a frail-looking frame — turned his disdainful gaze toward them. Despite his appearance, his presence radiated terrifying power.
"Useless bastards! Someone has already snuck in without authorization. I’m going to catch him!" the old man growled, and in the next breath, his form vanished into the darkness of the World Dungeon.
The guards stood there, speechless and baffled.
"When did that happen? Why didn’t we notice anything?" one muttered.
"Must be a big player..." another said in a grim tone.
"Damn it... our jobs are on the line!" someone else cried out.
—
The Soul Connector in his pocket responded instantly, syncing with Shirley’s soul that had already been transferred.
And the moment his foot touched the glowing rune circle, a brilliant light erupted once again.
Igaris vanished. Just a second before the old man could catch him.
The Overseer came to a halt, staring at the fading light with fury. His voice rang out, sharp and thunderous:
"Little bastard... whoever you are, I won’t spare you! You’ll have to come out eventually. And when you do, I’ll skin you alive!"
———
Inside the Martial Sanctuary World...
"Swoosh"
A rush of wind swept past when Igaris transmigrated within the new world. The ground beneath him was soft and warm, made of pale golden soil that shimmered faintly under the hazy sky.
The air felt different. It was denser, filled with unfamiliar energy and ancient power.
Massive mountain ranges loomed in the distance, veiled in perpetual mist. Towering bamboo forests swayed gently nearby, their stalks as thick as tree trunks. Everything carried an otherworldly weight, as if he had stepped into a world shaped by martial gods.
Igaris scanned his surroundings carefully. Unlike Ashvale, this place was vast and vibrant, with signs of civilization in sight.
"Argh..."
Igaris suddenly dropped to one knee, gripping his temple as a flood of foreign memories surged into his mind. His breath turned ragged, his vision blurred. These weren’t just fragments. These were vivid, living memories — emotions, sensations, faces, pain.
The scent of rice fields. The screech of villagers running in panic. A woman’s scream — "Yuhan, run!" — followed by the unmistakable roar of dark qi surging as two figures fell lifelessly to the blood-stained soil.
His heart pounded.
Not because it was happening.
Because it had happened.

"So.. I’m Yuhan now?" he growled under his breath
He tried standing again, his knees slightly unstable. The Soul Connector glowed faintly in his pocket, confirming Shirley was within proximity. But for now, he was trapped inside the role of a nobody — an orphan without a Martial Core, in a world where power dictated life or death.
