Re-Overlord: I Can Acquire Anything!
Chapter 107: Spar With Shirley

Chapter 107: Spar With Shirley

"Fufufu... Someone’s having a great time."

Evernight’s teasing voice echoed inside his mind, laced with a subtle hint of jealousy.

"Shut up," he replied calmly, unfazed by her jealousy.

Then he turned back to Shirley and gently shook her by the shoulders.

"Wake up, Shirley! Hey, wake up!"

Her eyes snapped open instantly, locking with his face—far too close.

"Ugh?"

She froze.

A deep blush bloomed across her cheeks as she instinctively stepped back.

"I–I’m sorry! I don’t know what just happened to me..." she stammered, clearly flustered and avoiding his gaze.

"Don’t worry about it Shirley. I didn’t take any offense."

"O-Ohh, really? T-thank you."

He chuckled softly, his lips curling into a faint smile as he watched her struggle to compose herself.

She really was beautiful. Gorgeous, even.

But the way he looked at her wasn’t the same as the way he viewed Evernight.

Maybe it was their familial connection,

Or maybe because she felt like family now. Whatever the reason, there was a line in his heart he wasn’t sure he’d ever cross.

"Go and get prepared, Shirley. We’re diving in tonight," he muttered gently, his eyes resting on her face.

Shirley, after calming her racing heart, responded,

"Hmm... Are you really done with your preparations, Igaris? It’s only been three days."

"I am," he nodded firmly. "But what about you? Were you able to train in your Martial Arts?"

"Yes, I did. But I haven’t had the chance to actually spar and try them out for real." She paused, then asked with a hint of anticipation, "Would you help me before we dive in?"

"Ah, yes. Anytime you want," he replied without hesitation, confidence ringing in his voice.

Shirley knew full well that he was leagues ahead of her in power — a true monster in the making. But instead of backing down, she saw this as an opportunity. An actual match with Igaris would teach her more than days of solo practice.

She didn’t care about losing. She wanted to grow. And she was ready to learn, even if it meant getting knocked down.

In the lawn, the two stood opposite each other, ready to spar.

Sophia sat on the stairs, watching them closely. Her brows were furrowed with worry after learning her dear daughter was going into that Dungeon again.

But after witnessing Shirley’s determination and unyielding spirit during the past three days of training, she had given up on trying to stop her. Even so, the worry in her heart didn’t fade. She still wasn’t fully reassured about leaving her daughter in Igaris’ care.

That was why she was here now—to see with her own eyes whether Igaris truly had the power and reliability to keep Shirley safe inside that deadly world.

The wind rustled as the two faced off.

Shirley dropped into a refined stance, her red eyes narrowing with focus. A subtle flame ignited around her fists, her aura blazing upward like the feathers of a phoenix.

"Igaris I’m not going easy just because it’s training," she warned, her voice resolute.

"Haha.. I wouldn’t expect you to," he smiled, his posture relaxed, hands behind his back.

He didn’t even raise a guard.

Sophia’s eyes widened slightly. He wasn’t even taking a stance. Was it confidence? Or foolishness?

"Here I go!"

Shirley didn’t wait. With a sharp breath, she launched forward, her Martial Aura flaring crimson.

"Fire Phoenix Descent!"

A fiery trail burst behind her as she surged across the lawn, her figure becoming a blur of flame and power. The temperature around them spiked. Even the grass began to sizzle beneath her feet.

"So this is your Martial Art: Fire Phoenix Descent. It’s impressive!"

She didn’t reply. Instead, she closed the gap in a blink, her burning fist aimed straight at his chest.

But just as the strike was about to land—

Tap.

With a simple shift of his foot and a light touch of his finger against her wrist, Igaris diverted the punch effortlessly. The fiery momentum dissipated in a swirl of wind as Shirley stumbled past him.

"What...?" she muttered, quickly regaining her footing.

Igaris turned to her, still relaxed. "Your execution was good, but your center of balance leaned too far forward when you committed. That made you predictable."

He analyzed her movements precisely with [ Architect’s Eyes ].

"Hmph. That was just the first attack."

She gritted her teeth and spun back.

She launched into a flurry of kicks and sweeping strikes, each one faster and sharper than the last.

Still, Igaris moved like a gentle breeze. Calm, measured, fluid. He didn’t dodge wildly or leap around. He sidestepped, turned, shifted weight. Minimal movement, maximum control.

Her attacks never even grazed him.

Sophia, watching from the stairs, was stunned silent. Igaris hadn’t used any flashy abilities or glowing powers. He was simply in control, like a true champion who had already seen through every move before it was made.

Shirley jumped back, panting slightly. Her red eyes burned with both admiration and frustration.

"You’re so strong, Igaris. You’re not even trying. Won’t I just become a burden like this," she said disappointed.

"What? You’re giving up already," Igaris said softly. "I am sparring with you, not trying to humiliate you."

Her fists trembled, but she smiled through the sweat. "Who said I am giving up? I’ll grow stronger until I can force you to try harder."

Igaris gave a faint nod of approval.

"Good. That’s the spirit you’ll need in your life. Never give up."

From her seat, Sophia finally exhaled and lowered her gaze.

He really had changed. Calm, powerful, sharp — yet not cruel. He was not the smae boy whom she had seen all those years ago.

He was now a man who could walk into the abyss and come back alive.

Their sparring continued until the golden hues of the evening sky bled into the horizon. The sun dipped low, casting long shadows across the lawn as the day came to an end. Both Igaris and Shirley stood still for a moment, breath calm, eyes focused. No words were needed—both understood the gravity of what lay ahead.

Inside the house, the quiet hum of the evening wind whispered through the open windows. Everything was ready.

At the gate, under the mellow orange sky, Aunt Sophia stood waiting. Her arms were crossed, but her eyes betrayed a deep unease. As the two approached, she stepped forward, her expression softening with motherly concern.

She placed a hand gently on Shirley’s shoulder, but her gaze was locked on Igaris.

"Igaris," she began, her voice quieter than usual. "Please take care of her. I’m not saying this because I don’t trust her... and I’m not asking you to babysit her. Just... make sure she doesn’t do anything rash."

Shirley immediately rolled her eyes and groaned. "...Mom! I’m not a kid!"

Sophia smiled bitterly, brushing a strand of hair from her daughter’s face. "Yes, I know. You’re a grown woman now. And that’s what worries me the most."

Shirley looked away, embarrassed but touched.

Igaris chuckled softly and stepped beside them. His voice was steady as he spoke. "Don’t worry, Aunt Sophia. I will take care of her. I will protect her."
