Chapter 237: The Virtual Reality Headset

The chatter finally died down, and the moment it did, a loud clap resounded.

Solenne scanned the room for a few moments, and their gaze eventually locked onto a few people, one of whom was Rael himself.

“Vice-Captains, Captains, Commanders, and all else, step forward,” Solenne commanded.

A few people stepped forward. The pressure they were giving off was immense, but it was nowhere near as intense as that of the Five Seats and the two shadows.

Since Rael currently inhabited a Vice-Captain’s body, he stepped forward as well, arriving behind the Five Seats and kneeling.

“Good.” Solenne nodded. “This is more of a delicate matter, I believe… recently, an Outer entered our universe. They came out of nowhere, almost as if from another dimension. They’re the first ever Outer to not come from another universe.”

The Second Seat’s brows furrowed. “So what does that mean then? Is there another realm aside from those that already exist?”

Solenne shrugged. “I can assure you they’re not from Hell, likely not from Heaven either. They’re definitely not from a Mortal world, so it’s really… fascinating.”

Rael raised a brow. Fascinating…?

Solenne coughed, then continued. “I believe there’s another realm that exists between all of this, and no, it’s not the Void. I’ve already checked… that place is too harrowing, so I’d recommend none of you scout it.”

All the soldiers nodded in unison.

In the meantime, Rael had come to one assumption.

The Depths.

As the Beast had mentioned, those who enter never leave. All except for Rael, of course.

It was definitely not a regular world, and the Beast did mention them being monitored by someone. If that was anything to go off of, then he’d assume one of the Depths’ monsters crossed over and caused a ruckus.

“Do you all remember my little idea all those years ago?” Solenne asked.

“Yes, First Light.” All five of the Seats affirmed.

“Last time, I didn’t call a vote because the situation wasn’t that serious. However, I am proceeding with Project Sketa,” Solenne announced.

Silence ensued for a few moments as the Five Seats stared at Solenne in shock.

That was when Jashin, the Fifth Seat, spoke up.

“M-Master, why don’t you trust us to find this individual? Why trust some… random nobodies to do the job?”

Solenne tilted their head. “You are all capable, but think about it from another perspective. What if we gathered one of the weakest universes and gave them a feel of actual power?”

They rose from their throne, approaching the Five Seats.

“You know how easy it is for me to connect the universes, and I’ve already set the plan into motion,” Solenne added.

All of a sudden, a familiar VR headset appeared in Solenne’s hands, which they held up for everyone to see.

“This is what those lowly humans refer to as virtual reality. They’re very far behind in their time, but ever since I gave them a nudge, they managed to produce something splendid.”

Solenne put on the VR headset. In the very next instant, Solenne’s body vanished, but what replaced it was the body of a frail young girl, with golden locks spanning down to her feet.

As that happened, a shiver ran down Rael’s spine as he did something almost instinctively.

And that was to inspect Solenne.

The moment he did, his eyes widened.

“It’s our personal avatar,” Solenne announced with a smug look. “This VR headset borrows a portion of our soul and creates a Spiritual body. It’s very simple, as you can see, but I get why you’re all upset. After all… if you die in your Spiritual body, your soul will be permanently damaged.”

The Third Seat snorted. “Master, we don’t wish to put our souls in jeopardy.”

“Agreed,” the Fourth Seat, the only woman, chimed in. “Why can’t we just make it take our mana instead? It’s much safer, and it’s pretty much the same.”

Solenne shook their head. “It’s not the same. Our mana signatures are unique, which means the world and the universe can detect us. However, when we use this virtual device to create a Spiritual body, we bypass that.”

For the first time since arriving, the First Seat stood up and spoke.

“And if we refuse to partake in this game of yours?”

That’s definitely Alcetas… Rael mused, and continued listening.

“Refusal is not an option, my dear child,” Solenne replied softly. “You either comply with my wishes, or I will have your position revoked. You don’t want that happening, do you, Alcetas?”

Alcetas’s brows furrowed as he brought his gaze down.

“Excellent.” Solenne clapped and got back to the matter at hand.

“When a Spiritual body is created, the world has no choice but to fill it up with its own mana. Because of that, the powers of our avatar decrease immensely. Even so, since the world infused its mana within us, we are able to generate a new, unique mana signature.”

The First Seat, Alcetas, grumbled. “Master, what exactly are you suggesting by continuing the Sketa Project?”

“Ah, yes.” Solenne sighed. “What I’m suggesting is employing the weak universe to do our bidding. They can have fun growing powerful, tossing spells around. In the meantime, we gain information.”

Solenne pressed the air, and in the very next moment, they returned to their former faceless white body.

“It’s a work in progress, so I still have to figure out a way for higher beings like us to remain longer in such fragile mortal shells,” Solenne commented. “But for the time being, what do you all think?”

Solenne glanced around at each person present, including Rael.

“What do you say to establishing an information network on a universal scale? Imagine immortal humans running around, completing all sorts of tasks. Their souls only amount to so much, so we can keep reusing them even after countless deaths. And with each completed task, we gather data that grants us even greater insight over the universe.”

A faint chuckle escaped Solenne’s lips. “Just imagine the possibilities… even those rats who have crossed over from an unknown realm wouldn’t be able to escape us. We’d be able to track them down and eliminate them… it’s simply magnificent.”

No one uttered a word of reluctance. After all, on the outside, it wasn’t such a bad plan.

With many improvements, they could send their avatars down as much as they wanted to, perhaps even without restrictions.

And when Rael thought about it further, all the pieces came together.
