Chapter 23: “There, Lara. Scream.”

Fear clutched Lara and she instantly backed away to the elevator wall.

She couldn’t see what was happening but she could hear struggles, yelps, the sound of punches flying through the air, the sound of it landing on someone’s face or jaw.

The thought of getting hit terrified her.

She was ugly already as it is, a punch landing on her face would be fatal damage!

Then, she heard the men groaning in pain, followed by a loud thud on the floor.

And then the elevator light flickered on.

Staring back at her, her sleek dark her caught back in a ponytail was Raven. She looked... different from the last time she saw her... which was ten years ago.

She has this bold, inhumane aura around her, unlike ten years ago when she was bubbly, naive, and pure. And seeing that glittering emotion in her eyes scared Lara a bit.

How had she not recognized this woman the first day she came into her home?!

Beside Raven was a handsome man, Adam Gates, whom Lara had no idea was.

Behind him was the wheelchair, with the granny disguise sitting there comfortably.

And on the floor were the men she had brought along with her to protect her... but here they were, knocked out.

How did these two people knock out these physically powerful men?

"I trained." Raven answered, as though she had just heard her thoughts, "I’ve been training for the past nine years... just for you guys."

"What will you do?" Lara asked as she managed to find her voice, although it was quavering, "Abduct me like you did to my daughter? And then what? Demand ransom... you’ve stolen all our money already!"

"Oh, Lara!" Raven’s voice was sarcastic, "You still have no idea, do you?"

"What..." Lara made to speak, but a hard, ferocious punch from Raven to her face knocked her out, and she fell to the floor.

"Damn!" Adam muttered sarcastically.

"I’ve always been wanting to do that for a long time!" Raven said staring down at her unconscious body.

With Adam’s help, Raven got unconscious Lara to sit in the wheelchair.

Adam quickly put the grandma’s disguise on Lara, whose face was slumped forward.

The elevator dinged as it reached the ground floor and then opened.

With their face, hidden well by the baseball hat, Raven and Adam quickly wheeled Lara out of the elevator to where their car was parked outside.

The people waiting for the elevator were shocked to see five unconscious, burly men snoring comfortably as though the elevator floor was their bed.

Once out of the building, Lara was carried by Adam and was laid at the back while Raven put away the wheelchair in the booth.

They both got into the car and smiled to themselves satisfyingly as they drove off.

Meanwhile, Felipe was at home, answering phone calls from investors and business partners, and he kept assuring them that the frauds would be caught sooner even though he himself didn’t believe.

And he was totally unaware of his wife’s abduction.

The house was crowded with police officers who were checking every security camera by Lucy’s school to track which route Raven had disappeared from.

"Wow, it’s like she knows every camera angle." one of the policemen marvelled at Raven’s cleverness.

"Seems like it." another police officer added."After she disappeared at that intersection, there’s no other camera that had her in it."

"Yeah, it’s like she’s a fucking ghost!"

"Are you gonna find her or are you all gonna sit there and marvel at her deceptive skills?!" Felipe fired at the police men who instantly went quiet and resumed on their screen.

Just then, Felipe’s phone rang. It was from one of the men that had gone with Lara.

He answered the call and paused to listen.

"Hello, Mr Brant, there’s a situation. Your wife is gone."

"What? What the hell do you mean she’s gone?!" Felipe fired into the phone, startling the police officers, "You all had one job! Just one fucking job! And you let a girl beat the five of you up!"

"She was so strong, Mr Brant. And she had a helper!"

"Find her! Find that bitch if you don’t want to lose your head!" He angrily screamed into the phone, "I swear to God, if anything happens to my wife, I’m gonna make you pay!"

Then he angrily disconnected the call and dialed Lara’s number.

Her phone rang but she wasn’t picking up. He tried countless times but all his efforts were futile.

He broke out in a cold sweat.

What if that deceptive bitch hurt Lara? And Lucy? What has he done to deserve this from Raven?

He has been nothing but kind and loving to her! Did he commit a plan in his past life? She has completely ruined his life, what else does she want from him? He wondered.

"Is something wrong Mr Brant?" one of the police officers asked.

"I think it’s time to bring all the members of your SWAT team into this." Felipe fumed, resisting the urge to smash his phone against the floor, his veins bulging out of his body. "That bitch has gone way too far! She needs to be stopped before she does more harm!"

Lara woke up with a throbbing headache, and for a while, she felt dizzy.

She raised her head and flicked her hair off her face and then she stared around the room. The room was dark and she could barely see a thing. The only light in the room was the one coming from one side of the window.

And the only sound she could hear was from the air conditioner.

She made to get up, but her arms were tied tightly behind the chair, and her legs tied tightly on the chair’s leg, enough to cut off circulation.

She was totally disoriented and she knew there was no escape.

Intense fear crept in.

Was this her end? Who knows what Raven will do to her? That heartlessly inhumane bitchy creature!

God! I don’t wanna die! My husband and I haven’t even got to tell each other "I love you!". God please, save me!

And then the door opened, revealing a womanly frame... it was Raven, she turned on the light.

"You’re finally awake," Raven said from the door, cutting a tiny particle of the apple with the tiny knife she was holding, and then she threw the particle into her mouth, chewing it loudly. "You have been out for a while."

"What are you gonna do? Kill me?" Lara asked defiantly, "You and I both know you can’t do that!"

"Oh really?" Raven asked raising an eyebrow, "I can’t?"

"You’ve taken everything away from me, what else do you want? Let me go right this instant!"

Raven came closer, "Let you go?" She asked rhetorically, in a mocking voice, "Oh sweet Lara, we’re just getting started."

And then, Raven raised the tiny knife and furiously dug it into Lara’s lap.

"Ahhh!" Lara let out a shrill scream full of excruciating agony.

Raven sniggered satisfyingly.

"There, Lara. Scream!" She smiled creepily, "Scream like a little girl!"
