Chapter 24: Escaping Death!
Chapter 24: Escaping Death!
Lara was still groaning in pain as she furiously cursed at Raven.
"The pain you’re feeling right now is just a tiny speckle of what I felt ten years ago," Raven said slowly. "I begged you to stop... I begged you Lara... but you didn’t. Now, do you see what your medicine tastes like?"
Lara was still groaning and huffing as she cursed incoherently, "y... ou ... bi.. tch! I’m... hon... na mak... ee..
"Awnn! You look so pretty when you’re in pain." Raven said jeeringly, "I think it just suits you rather than that condescending expression you always have."
And then, she pulled out the knife drawing out another shrill scream from Lara.
"Okay! Okay!" Lara begged desperately, huffing and wincing from the pain, tears streaming like a waterfall, "I’m sorry! I’m so sorry! Please... please... just let me go! Just let me go! I’m sorry! I’m so extremely sorry and I know that what I did to you back then was so wrong! I never should have done that! I was so stupid! It was all my inferiority complex! I’m so sorry Raven! Please kindly let me go!! I probably I’ll be good!"
"Your inferiority huh?" Raven repeated, "You’re right... t was your inferiority complex. You hated the fact that a peasant like me goes to the same college as you. Now I’m gonna make your inferiority complex go away so it doesn’t hurt someone else."
And then she dug the knife on her other leg drawing out another loud scream of excruciation from Lara.
Lara was now a pale version of her former self. She was now pale and red with her body soaked in sweat.
"Please!" Lara groaned in utter pain as she cried profusely, spit coming out of her mouth. "Please! Please! Raven, just let me go! I swear I’ll change! I swear I won’t hurt someone else! Just let me goo!!"
"Promise?"
Lara quickly nodded. "I promise! I swear on my dead father’s grave!"
"What of your estranged mother?"
"Yes! Her too!’
"Good." Raven said approvingly, "Now you know what pain feels like!"
"Yes please..."
"Why don’t you confess what you did to me to your husband?" Then Raven pulled out Lara’s muted phone from her pocket, answered her call, and put It on loudspeaker. It was Felipe calling.
"Lara!" Felipe’s anxious voice came through the phone, "Lara are you okay?"
"Why don’t you see for yourself, Felipe?" Raven said into the phone, "You see, your wife has something to tell you."
Then Raven transitioned the call to a video call and showed suffering Lara on the screen.
Over at Felipe’s house, he caught his breath in ultimate shock, as he stared at his wife. The state she was in was... horrible!
Felipe had never had feelings for Lara since their five years of marriage, but seeing her like that sparked something inside of him. Irrevocable rage! Murderous!
"I WILL KILL YOU!" He muttered slowly, his eyes flickering with murderous intent. "MARK MY WORDS!!"
While Felipe was making the call, the SWAT team were tracking the location of the call.
"Oh, Felipe!" Raven taunted, sarcastically, "But you used to love me, didn’t you? Now you want to kill me?!"
Felipe said nothing; he just pressed his lips into a thin line, wishing he would just miraculously go through this phone over to Raven’s location. He would strangle her to death!
"I’m just doing a favour. Admit it, you never loved her. You should be thanking me after I get rid of her for you." And then Raven went to Lara’s back and pulled her hair, shoving the phone to Lara’s face. "Tell your husband what you did. Tell him how made my life a living hell. Go on, tell him!"
Lara groaned and choked in pain. She wanted to talk, but she couldn’t find her voice.
Tears streamed down Felipe’s face despite himself.
He never loved this woman and had always known she was the bully type, but somehow, seeing her suffering made him tear up.
Why? Was it because he had gotten used to her? Was it because she was the mother of her child?
"Raven please, I... b...beg you." Felipe stuttered, wiping the tears with the back of his hand. "Please, I beg you... no matter what she did to you, please just let her go! For Lucy’s sake... for my sake."
Surprisingly enough as it seemed, those words softened Raven a bit. She knew she hated seeing Felipe suffer. He was kind and respectful. He was a gem!
But he shouldn’t have to suffer all because of his wife. He has suffered enough already as it is and everyone should be held accountable for their own actions, not their loved ones.
There and then, Raven decided to stop. She felt that at least, Lara has learnt her lesson. She has experienced pain, even if it wasn’t nearly a quarter of what she, Raven, had felt, it was still pain nonetheless.
After this, she won’t torment people’s lives again!
"Okay, I’ll let her go." Raven said calmly, "But I’m doing this for you and Lucy, not for her."
"Thank you," Felipe said gratefully and then Raven ended the call.
"We’ve got her location!" one of the members of the swat team almost yelled excitedly.
"Really, where is she?"
All other members, including Felipe, came closer to stare at the laptop screen.
"She’s at Imperial Tower!"
"Everyone let’s move!" The captain commanded, "Go, go, go, go, go!!"
All the members secured their rifles in their arms and began to head outside to the car, including Felipe.
They all loaded the car and sped through the city roads to Imperial Tower.
Meanwhile, Raven disconnected the call and stared down at Lara, not with pity but with disgust.
"I’m only letting you go merely for your husband’s and daughter’s sake!" Raven said disgustingly, "Someone like you does not deserve pity or love. People like you who make the lives of their fellow human beings hard solely because they enjoy it or because they are above them aren’t worthy of being called humans! I’m sure you’ve learnt your lesson."
Lara nodded quickly, "Yes! Yes! I have! I’ll change my ways!"
Raven crouched down and began to untie the ropes that held Lara’s leg in place.
But unbeknownst to Raven, Lara had already slipped her hands out of the rope that tied her hands.
As soon as Lara’s legs were free, she kicked Raven on her stomach and punched her really hard across the face.
Raven lost her balance and fell on the floor and Lara dominated her. With the rope that once tied her hands, she used it to circle around Raven’s neck and then she began to pull.
"Die you bitch!" Lara spat viciously through gritted teeth, her face a scary one. "I should have killed you long ago. Just die! Die! How dare you treat me like this!"
She pulled harder and harder, draining the life out of Raven. Raven futilely tried to slip her fingers through the rope on her neck, but the rope was just too damn tight.
Raven was nearly going to the afterlife, she was now crimson red and pale, her legs flailing up and down against the floor in an attempt to break free.
"Die!" Lara was muttering, "Just die already! I should have done this a long time ago! Die!!"
In an attempt to save herself, Raven stretched her hand for a weapon littered on the floor. Her hand touched a heavy metal, and then she grabbed it, and then with all the last strength left in her, she swung it across Lara’s head with a loud thud.
Blood gushed out, and then she slumped on top of Raven, her blood soaking Raven’s clothes.
Raven immediately pushed her off her and scrambled away from her as she coughed and gasped for breath, holding her red neck.
She couldn’t believe she had just escaped death!
Then the door immediately burst open in an urgent emergency, it was Adam, "The police are here ... Oh shit!" He broke off, cursing, his eyes widening in shock as he took in Lara’s unconscious body on the floor. "What the hell happened here?! Is she dead?!"
Raven huffed, blinking back her tears, "I don’t know."
