Chapter 76: Chapter 76: Do Not Overstep

After Dolemort’s grunt resonated loudly inside the car, Mr. Clark followed a brief silence, but he couldn’t suppress the overwhelming mixed emotions of anger and sadness inside him.

He didn’t avert his cold gaze from the front mirror and chose to answer Dolemort in a low, grim tone, "Sir...I have witnessed everything that has happened inside the Agastya Mansion over these years.

"But as Young Master’s father yourself, do you really believe the dark void that was left inside him after Madam’s demise could have been filled by you or Miss Vanessa’s company? He lost his mother...and she consisted his entire world! That incident left a grave impact on his life...and turned him into what he has become today...a ruthless, cold-hearted guy... Do you still actually consider he has led a happy life?"

"His nature has become what exactly Supreme Alphas should be...devoid of such unnecessary futile emotions named love that causes nothing but weakness." Dolemort immediately retorted at him in a fervent tone, while narrowing his icy glare on him.

"The luxury...the freedom my tolerance towards his arrogance...and everything that I have done for that thankless brat could be considered a dream for any other ordinary child of around his age! Despite him constantly getting on my nerves with his actions, I have perfectly portrayed the part as his father until now. If he didn’t find solace around me or Vanessa, that isn’t my fuckin’ problem.

"As my only son, it will be his prime responsibility in the future to fulfill his duties towards the Agastya household after what I have done for him through the years. And if he still acts like a little rebellious brat, I would have to resort to my own means to tighten the leash around his neck!"

"Sir, please...Zenith is your son, he isn’t your dog. At least I think you should consider a bit of compassion towards him..." Mr. Clark couldn’t stand such derogatory remarks about Zenith from Dolemort as he couldn’t help but protest in a faint tone.

But Dolemort’s facial expression contorted in anger from his objection, as he twisted a cold sneer at him, "Oh, I see, maybe because I had asked you to keep your watch on that brat, you’ve mistakenly forgotten your place, Clark. You’re overstepping on your boundary.

"Let me remind you again, this is my family and Zenith is my own blood. As my beta and my faithful Secretary, you don’t have the right to interfere in my family matters, Clark. So next time before you overstep your boundary and try to question my methods, remember my warning. Will you?"

Dolemort’s words didn’t sound any less than a fatal warning but it didn’t make Mr. Clark flinch from fear. Rather, his heart was riled with anger towards Dolemort’s ways of treating his son, he could only let out a low murmur, "Yes sir."

"I don’t want you to become the next Zorina, Clark. One had spoiled Zenith far enough and was pretty hard to deal with. Now after her, I don’t want anyone else to interfere in my personal choices." Dolemort lit out a cigarette while addressing his cold voice towards him.

Before turning his gaze outside the window, he lifted another sharp glare toward Mr. Clark through the front mirror as he scowled, "Also, try to address Vanessa with the proper dignity she deserves. Call her at least Madam, would you?"

The frustration raging inside him suddenly flared after hearing his brazen command, making Mr. Clark grit his jaws when he grumbled at him, "There was only one person worthy to be called as Madam inside the Agastya Mansion, Sir.

"Now that she’s gone, I can’t disregard the respect I had for her for all these years. Besides, since all these years, I never had the chance to tell you properly like this, but Miss. Vanessa was never worthy to be called the Madam. Unfortunately, my resolve won’t change even if you command me, Sir."

"Darn...that attitude of yours, it really gets on my nerves. You still haven’t changed your darn opinion, after all these years, huh?" Twisting a cold smile at Mr. Clark, Dolemort exhaled a big puff of smoke when he urged.

> "Mr. Clark, I had never asked anything from you until now, but can I ask something today? If...someday I am not around, could you promise me that you will always look after my Zenith...and...your Master as well? Please...if you will stay by their side, I can rest easy...knowing there will be someone beside them I could blindly trust...even if I go somewhere far from reach..."

That last promise Zorina had asked him before a day of her death, at that time Mr. Clark didn’t pay much attention to it, rather than laughing at her sudden request which he had taken very lightly. But only after she was gone, he realized the depth of her love towards her family was deeply embedded in that promise that she sought from him.

Thus, with his grappling regret over the years, Mr. Clark chose to fulfill his last promise to Zorina, by staying beside Dolemort as his loyal beta, as well as watching over Zenith like his father figure. Even though there wasn’t much he could do to alter the events that followed after her death, he was never able to accept Vanessa as the new Madam of the mansion, and he could forgive her for ruining the Agastya Family.

Hearing his grunt, Mr. Clark smiled a bit when he mumbled in a deep voice, "My opinion and resolve would never change, Master. It will always be the same, until my last day."

"Fine, I won’t force you to show your false respect to Vanessa, but could you testify now what happened today when you went to see Zenith in the Academy?" Dolemort suddenly shuffled his topic, without letting Mr. Clark get the hunch that he was suddenly about to ask him about the activities today.

But trained by his sharp instincts, Mr. Clark didn’t show any trace of nervousness on his face while he forged his lies, "It was nothing worthy to report you, Sir. As usual I do regularly, I went to check on Young Master and he seemed doing okay there. I just had a simple chit-chat with him and he assured me that he will take his studies seriously from now on, and will graduate with excellent Academic score. That’s all we talked about."

"Really? Nothing else after that?" Dolemort’s tone grew a little stiff when he urged him next, which made Mr. Clark sense the dubious note in his voice.

But still retaining his calm expression while enduring his pounding heartbeat, Mr Clark answered, "Yes sir, that’s what I told you...it was nothing really important."

"Alright." Dolemort exhaled a long sigh while his eyes darkened with a mystic tint in them, "Clark, you are the one I trust the most among all my men and that’s why I had handed over the responsibility to look after Zenith, you do remember it, right?"

"Yes...Sir..."

"So, you better try not to hide anything from me, Clark. Because if I find you so, I might resort to do something which might be fatal for you and Zenith...as well as your old sister as well." The mysterious smug on Dolemort’s face ignited his dark grey eyes with a vicious intent in them, when he purposely made his words sound like a threat.

"Despite she became a cripple after that gruesome accident years ago, my foundation has been bearing every cost of her treatment to help her recover as soon as possible. She was abandoned by her husband as well and now, as a sick weak beta, she has no one to rely on except you.

"So, I do believe you also deliberately want to see your sister, the only member alive in your family walking perfectly fine in her legs, one day, right?"

Mr. Clark clenched his jaws from the emotional turmoils going inside him but chose to not let a word out, except a reluctant nod at him.

Just glancing at his dark eyes twisting with the sneer, Mr. Clark was clever enough to realize he was purposely threatening him by putting his poor crippled sister’s life at stake if he chose to disobey his commands one day. Treating her at the foundation was just an excuse to keep Mr. Clark’s only alive family member as a hostage under Dolemort’s grasp.

After knowing Dolemort for all these years, Mr. Clark had considered this possibility to happen when he went along with Zenith’s whims today.

But watching Zenith smiling heartily at having Kylian around him after so many years, for a second, he forgot all of his worries which were piled inside his mind one by one.

At least Zenith’s happiness was important for him to put anything at risk.

When Mr. Clark focussed his gaze on the road again after their conversation was halted, Dolemort turned on his phone screen and a message was displayed on his screen. His face darkened with an eerie look shimmering in his orbs.

~ ’Master, today Young Master was seen at the Galaxy Hospital along with Mr. Clark...and he was also accompanied by another unfamiliar tall handsome boy. That boy was also very pretty to look at but he seemed very reluctant to go to the hospital along with Young Master today. If you command, shall I find more records about that boy?’
