Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead
Chapter 904 - 904: In The Shadows

It was undeniable, the rotten skeleton was a most annoying opponent to be facing under any situation, even with having the equivalent of one hand behind his back, landing any proper hits on him was a tall order, and landing a hit that would actually have any effect was even more complicated, Loimos was flying through the air with ease, by manipulating his mana signature to perfectly mimic that of Helena, he could use his wings and ride the winds without any worry of interference on her part, even her best efforts to caste disruptive spells that should technically qualify as non-aggressive were fruitless, the undead had already seen ahead and prepared for that, so she could only keep on using burst-like spells in tandem to move around and evade his diving attacks.

At the same time, curtains of various things meshed together were restricting the areas she could go to, some looked like dust, some like blood mist, others were clearly spores, some noxious gases- They were all released together alongside some sort of blueish mist that Loimos released by first manifest some sort of rocks and insect-like feet.

Helena did not know what that was, but it was a special kind of Volonstone from the realm under Ridfoirn's watch, the particles Loimos was creating were a special spell that was normally meant to prevent other users of Volonstone to cast their own spells by having the mist eat and devour the Volonstone that would be summoned before a spell was ultimately shaped.

The pure undead had slightly customised this rather ingenious spell to deal with mana instead, but Helena did not need to try to know that she shouldn't get anywhere close to that thing, her mana sense clearly screamed danger, and if she got stuck without protection amidst the hundreds different types of filth unleash by Loimos, she would be as good as dead.

'Bastard even extended his mana- With my signature on it- Onto what he dropped, I can't blow it all away to form a passage…' it certainly was frustrating, when it came to cutting off all possible counters like this, Loimos was simply too much, he simply could not forget about any flaw, and if he could fix it, then he would do so instantly.

Helena knew this, which was why was certain pang of dread was forming in her heart at the moment, because there was a clear way out of this foul net he was tightening around her, one so obvious, the undead definitely knew about it, and yet, he wasn't doing anything about it, even though the solution was stupidly simple, even a child would figure it out.

Obviously, he was baiting her- But in which way? Was he trying to get her to go for it? Was he actually playing with her mind, and trying to make her willingly abandon a clear path out of this encirclement? She could not get a clue as to what the corpse might be thinking.

'Should I just go for it right now? Or…' her gaze flickered as she watched the undead suddenly come to a stop, raising his arm straight up, index pointing upward, as an unknown energy began to condense at the tip of his finger, and just within a few seconds, a miniature sun as tall as the undead had appeared.

Its colour flickering between five different colours before they all melded together and were imbued with festering death, turning the whole thing blacker than the darkest of nights.

Indeed, it seemed like other energies were still available to the undead, he had precisely only copied her mana signature.

The living did not linger in place despite the awe, she had no idea what sort of energy this was, but she had enough experience and knowledge to recognise the danger, as per usual, Loimos did not show any mercy, this was yet another zenith-level spell, a self-sufficient transcend-level spell supplemented by all other energies and matters available to the undead through utilisation of the techniques he had learned from the vampire lords.

It was not quite the strongest he could make it, but in essence, when it came to the realm of energy manipulation alone, it was a feat that far surpassed that of any other, the smoke and particles he had been unleashed all shifted into dense walls of black stone, encasing the living in, the goal was simple, release the miniature sun, and keep its blast radius controlled to ensure that everything within would be eradicated without fault.

Helena could sense that the black stone had also manifested below ground, so there was only one way out of here, which was the very obvious one mentioned earlier, even now, Loimos had not taken any step to close off that escape route, so Helena was fairly certain that something bad would happen if she used it.

But there was no choice, as it stood, even if the undead was not capable of interfering with her spell casting, enduring the blast from the miniature sun was something she did not believe she could survive.

So without hesitation, she focused like never before.

A line of blood flowed out from one nostril, and a vein popped on her forehead, calling upon several transcend-level spells at once, all geared to only last a brief instant, blast of winds to propel her out of there.

A quarter were interrupted by Loimos instantly, and another quarter were prevented from detonating, but half was more than enough, and Helena surged right out of here like a blur.

Loimos saw this, but dropped the small sun anyways, his figure soon disappearing amidst the dark radiance.

Meanwhile Helena had already made it, but she did not dare to produce even the smallest sigh of relief, what she had just done was simple.

Loimos had herded her into a corner, but one side of that cage was actually the life barrier, this was the thing he had deemed unnecessary to guard, despite being a barrier Helena could cross, but he could not, it was an obvious ticket to freedom, and naturally, he had known this, so Helena expected something on the other side…

Helena did not need to look around to find what it was that Loimos had left her no choice but to confront.

Night seemed to fall, and immense, black and red feathers fell from the sky, the winds growing turbulent with its every movement, the living could feel her control over the winds faltering, although even her very mana was afraid of offending the being.

Helena looked back, and there it was.

One of the nine disaster beasts of Loimos.

A grand roc of immense size and unfathomable wingspan, whoever got caught in its shadow would see the day turn to night.

Which was why the other undeads had given it its nickname.

Eclipse.
