Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead -
Chapter 903 - 903: Dark Angel
Although the situation did not look very favourable, as it looked like Loimos was getting charred by life and would soon be divided into two pieces across the torso at a somewhat diagonal angle- Things were actually not that bad.
Loimos would have kept going even if that were to happen, as getting blasted by a bit of life and being bisected were not exactly the end of the world, considering his situation, it would be best to avoid any unnecessary damage.
And there was an obvious way out of this, after being flung all the way to the barrier in a second, Helena was not going to be around for a little while, meaning that she could not consciously continue to feed mana into her spell and wrestle with anyone over the mana making it up, it was still a most delightfully constructed transcend-level spell obviously, clearly, she wasn't a hack in this craft, even when woven in the spur of the moment, that thing could very well fare without its caster looking over it like a needy baby.
However, it had been sent after the pure undead, who was also a master caster, even the restrictions of the realm could not do anything about that, energy manipulation was allowed here, so in only a few moments, the undead's first bursted through the wind blade, shattering the great spell and allowing to land to his feet upon the ground, as the gash across his chest closed itself.
The purple glow was directed upward, Helena was already here, definitely not willing to call it quits just yet, Loimos guessed that Milo was either already all good, or soon to be, although he had it the golden boy hard, the undead was well aware that his chance had been lost due to his wife's timely intervention, only a handful of people had the ability to interrupt him during a killing blow, but somehow, the one with the best chances of managing just that had shown up.
Dealing with her was difficult- But it had just gotten much simpler.
Helena frowned as she felt something change about the undead.
"Is that…" she stopped herself from continuing, but it made no doubts, Loimos had somehow managed to modify his mana to perfectly match her own energy signature, right now, he could cast a wind spell and no one would be able to tell that it wasn't Helena how had manifested it.
Although very useful for identity theft, the reason why Loimos did it was clear to the mage, her own mana and magical control had been refined countless times over and over again, currently, her own spells couldn't even but the smallest of scratches on her, even if she messed up a spell and it blew up in her face, so effectively, the undead was immune to her magic right now.
'What sort of level is that, where you can just copy someone's entire mana signature? But since he didn't do it from the start, it must mean that he needed to get into contact with my mana… And also, he should inherit all of the aspects of my mana too, right? So he shouldn't be able to be as flexible with his spells as before…' Helena still did not approach him and even put some more distance in between them.
Even if her conjectures were true, it did not mean much, if she could not harm him by directly using mana, it only left her with physical reinforcements, since the mana was on the inside of her body, it would count like regular physical strikes if she were to hit him this way, but although not a slouch when it came to punching and kicking things into paste, she was not nearly as confident as Milo about engaging Loimos in close quarters, her self-healing was good, but not miraculous like the gold.
Loimos did not permit for his adversary to think too deeply about the matter at hand, two black wings erupted from his back, rotten and foul as black blood emerged alongside with them, they still possessed an angelic quality to them as he flew upward, soaring through the air with ease.
'At least, with my own mana signature, he can't use spells to harm me… And I can easily keep track of him too…' Helena did not forget that he was a master at wielding other energies as well, but having trained under Rosemary, she knew how to recognise the 'sparks' of energies other than mana being manifested, if they appeared, she would notice immediately.
Like a vulture circling a carcass, Loimos flew around for a few moments before deciding to strike.
Right now, Loimos was a bit limited when it came to transforming his physical form using rot, making additions was simple enough, but truly shifting away from his humanoid form was not really possible without the usage of a certain technique… So his flight speed wasn't optimal, humanoids weren't exactly very aerodynamic, after all.
Still, he knew his way around flying in that manner, his first experience with wings was being shown the ropes by Vespertillo and Atsalinopalo after all, in terms of human-shaped, winged beings, they were certainly the most competent.
So like a hawk, he increased his altitude before nose diving directly for the living, the attack was obvious and clear for all to see coming, but deprived of her magic, there wasn't much Helena could do to actually take advantage of that, offensive spells would just bounce right off, and trying to put up a barrier would be meaningless as he could just go right through like it didn't exist right now.
As such, she could only fly out of the way, but as she feared, her mobility was also impaired as technically, her spells were also Loimos's right now, so he actively interfered in its creation and existence, forcing Helena to struggle with the pure undead to keep her spell going.
She only narrowly managed to avoid getting struck head-on by the undead, who did not even manifest any claws, merely seeking to fly right through the living with nothing but pure momentum.
'Spells that need to be maintained or exist for more than a split moment are useless' instead, Helena only used short bursts of winds to move around, she could manifest countless of them at once, so even if Loimos managed to intercept one right as it appeared, it wouldn't impact her.
But the undead still had plenty of tricks, with a flap of his wings, hundreds of black feathers were launched at the living, each slicing through the air like a hail of knives, some of them even detonated into all sorts of blasts of different natures, but one were due to the usage of energy, or even any way of power for that matter, Loimos, who had learned and perfectly integrated the morphology and every physiological fact about countless types of creatures, could manifest these aspects at will, which included things like monsters that would self-detonated, or the rare cores that some creatures would form that they could also chose to detonate at will.
He even spread spores and toxic fumes from his wings as he went, herding Helena into a corner of the barrier…
