Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead -
Chapter 819 - 819: The Arrival
"Mister Frenand, let me help you" Basmi used her ability to exchange the golden mana stuck within the undead's hand with some harmless, ambient mana instead, and rapidly, the cracks on Frenand's hands began to close, and his gauntlets even began to reform.
"Hey, I didn't know you could self-repair damage done to your body"
"Well, Erestel, I have trained in the art of regeneration- Well, General Loimos gave me a few tips that helped a lot… But I do have to admit that being able to mend damage without having to use Ierpalam is a great boon, shame that the first living I could test it on counters it completely" he flicked his cape and shook his head, leaning forward as he turned to Basmi.
"Thank you, little Basmi, look at how much you've grown since I last saw you! You've gotten even prettier"
"T-Thank you… Mister Frenand, please stop petting my head- I am an adult now!"
"Nonsense, even if you turn into an old lady, you'll still be little Basmi to me, did you have fun in the Emerald Realm? It wasn't too scary to be without your father for this mission? Did you practise with your weapon? Any improvements in your soul depth manifestation? Ah, you're just so cute!"
"Sari" Erestel whispered to the vampiress "I thought that Instructor Gunlaurgh had given him new rounds of training to get rid of his soft spot for kids?"
"Don't be silly, he learned well, but General Loimos's daughters are an exception, so he dotes on them extra hard" she replied, honestly, Sari was quite fond of the girls as well, but wasn't nearly as comfortable as Frenand was in expressing it, it still felt weird to have livings around and to be working with them, even if they were totally loyal to the cause, Irtop for example as truly performed magnificently.
In fact, all of the living soldiers who had fought in the Emerald Realm had done an excellent job, for such weak livings to face off against much more powerful foes and manage to accomplish their mission was plenty impressive, and some of them had died a long time ago in this realm, their time to receive the blessing as reward for their service was nigh.
Though, right now, they needed to tidy the underground up and elevate it to greater standards now that undeads could work in the realm, it also meant that they could bring the real best materials they had to offer, the nearly invincible alloy was certainly impressive, but anything that lacked death and undeath upon it, could not be the best the empire had to offer, as it was only when infusing themselves into what they created that they truly performed miracles.
"The portal?" she asked Irtop, whose arm Sari had healed, though Ayelah was still checking endless for any injuries on the man.
"It was completely consumed by the machine when it was finally activated, and since the enemy figured out how to close the others gates, the one you came from is the only one we have available currently, Lieutenant Sari"
"I see, so just as was expected then"
The machine's activation was rather costly, and it could have been possible for the portal to be consumed without another one manifesting in its place, had that happened, the realm would have changed, but no one would have been able to enter in the nick of time as all gates would have been gone.
Thankfully, everything went exactly as planned.
"I'll go back and go fetch the troops" Erestel announced, stepping back through the portal, the three lieutenants had entered first to assess the situation, now that the hideout had been moved to a new location and that no enemies were around, the many soldiers and workers stationed on the other side and waiting to enter could do so without any problem.
Sari turned to Frenand, but the undead was busy greeting the girls of the Soror one by one, currently spinning Alila through the air, and despite perhaps being the one that was most annoyed when she was called a child, she seemed to quite like being spun around like she was one.
"Bellah, may I ask how the confrontation with the Golden Boy was?" the vampiress approached the leader of the Soror, who was currently sitting on the ground, looking like she was trying to focus to avoid puking all over the place.
"Miss Sari, it was a pretty poor performance on our part, to be honest, the suppression effect of the base was completely focused on him, I was augmenting everyone else to the maximum of my capabilities, and suppressing his soul as well, but we still could not land any true damage until I projected my soul directly against his and even then… Something more worrying occurred"
"What happened?"
"His soul energy, it turned golden as well, to me, it seems unlikely that be a coincidence, all of his energy, and perhaps more, is somehow linked to that golden force, I don't know if he realised what happened exactly, but following this event, it clearly had an effect on his soul, he seemed to become more aware of what we were doing when manipulating soul energy, and he seemed more resilient in that aspect as well… Not to mention that my attack dealt a lot of damage, but once the gold showed up, it was almost like nothing happened"
"So, more than just an elemental affinity for mana, huh?" Sari sat beside Bellah, still a whole lot taller than the girl.
"General Loimos has made a few discoveries on the possible origin of this gold, but he is still verifying his information, that information might just help your father in that regard" the silver knightness turned her head toward Bellah.
"So don't look so down, you should stand proud, you have successfully repelled an opponent many times stronger than yourself, it is a cause for celebration"
"Truthfully, even with Basmi preventing lethal blows, I feel that we didn't suffer any loss sorely because he was unwilling to kill us, at first, it seemed like he had no qualms about it, but after I struck his soul, he seemed to have realised something and his killing intent plummeted down, at least, toward the Soror"
"Bellah, if the enemy is unwilling to kill, the fault lies with them, and you are free to exploit it… Did you try to mention the things that General Loimos spoke of concerning the Golden Boy?"
"I did, but he wasn't really fazed, at most he marked a pause, I fear that he isn't so easily shaken"
"Is that so? Perhaps it would have had more of an impact if General Loimos had done it himself… In any case, rest for now, and be ready, your-"
The portal trembled, and a suffocating presence seemed to envelop the entire realm for a few moments.
He, who carried the apocalypse upon his back, had arrived.
