Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead -
Chapter 799 - 799: After-Battle Meeting
In an underground area, eight figures suddenly popped up in the place of eight creatures that resembled hairless dogs whose maw made up the entirety of their faces, their heights and features varied greatly from one another, but each of them had glowing eyes, who quickly dimmed whilst they found seats to rest in, only the one garbed in a black cloak remained standing, her serious, no nonsense expression fading away as she sighed in quiet relief.
"That first field deployment was… Fairly successful, except for Alici who got knocked out"
"Hey, don't single me out like that!"
"It wouldn't have happened if you didn't rush ahead though, I know you want to take action, but it would be a shame if you died so early on without racking up any achievement" responded Bellah, and the red haired girl made herself small, making a mistake like this on the first real combat situation certainly was a pretty bad look, but at least she could count on her older sister to not snitch to Father about that blunder.
Bellah cleared her throat, crossing both arms before beginning to speak.
"We have encountered multiple individuals marked as dangerous targets by Father, but he has made this list based on the last known sightings of them, which dates quite a fair bit back, we have gotten to see them in action, in the present, so what do we think?" she had observed everything the whole time, so the leader of the Soror knew the details, but this mission on the Emerald Realm was also training, and her sisters were still a bit lacking in discipline, an after-battle meeting seemed like a good thing to see how they felt after this first real combat experience.
Amongst the eight of them, there were three who had not physically shown themselves during the battle and had instead acted from a distance, one was Betil, who had been firing soul bullets from afar and acted as support to distract the enemies.
Then there were Babriel and Almiel, who had also provided support from the rear, the former aiding in dealing with the troublesome golden mana, and the latter having been the one in charge of flooding the place with all matters of beasts, despite not actually fighting, Almiel looked like one of the most exhausted.
Still, she was the first to raise her hand.
"They… They attack quickly and with murderous precision, they don't know how to target soul energy or the soul, but their intent is so well-honed, that they were able to disrupt the soul energy that made up the beasts, so I unexpectedly had to keep creating more and more, which is much more draining that repairing them when they take damage… Low-level creations like those are not worth against them" she said, her long, light purple hair obstructed the view of her face, and she kept wrapping strands of it around her fingers whilst speaking.
"I noticed that, we underestimated them and were too confident in our soul depth manifestation, they might not know or understand it, but it seems like their skills are still good enough to face off against our abilities" spoke Bellah, although she had expected pushback from the ones Loimos had acknowledges as problematic, she had had the rug pulled from under her feet when the clash actually occurred, they had clearly not gone all out in the least and still not struggled that much, if anything, the fight only lasted so long because their opponents had assessed them as not great threats and had decided to conserve their energy.
They might have been wary, but it wasn't like any of them had actually suffered any injury.
"That Milo guy is way too powerful, Father described their fight, and he was clearly not trying as hard, or using his golden mana nearly as thoroughly as he did against Father, yet that last strike of his… It was incredibly powerful, even from far away, I felt it and was thrown back" spoke Betil.
"That could have definitely killed me if it had hit, even with Babriel's assistance" Alila added, looking drowsy as she put her head against the side of the sister she just mentioned.
"I concur with what she said, even at full power and ideal conditions, my soul depth manifestation could not have done anything about that, the effects of the golden mana as just as dire as Father told us, it disrupts and cancels all abilities and energy flows within its targets, and even mimics the weakness of what it is attacking- It not only ignores but destroy defences, hits everything at once, and I even felt like soul energy was being consumed by it…" Babriel frowned.
"That thing is the perfect counter to everything, it's no wonder that this man is considered such a threat, the golden mana might actually be more dangerous to Father than the Devouring Life"
Aegli spoke next.
"It did seem like his control and skills have improved compared to what we were told, Father should be pleased with us getting to learn more about this Milo"
"Indeed, but what about the others?"
"It's harder to say, they did not show us much, Helena only used simple spells and stayed on the defensive for her comrades, Antieeld didn't even use the ability that makes her dangerous at all…" Basmi remarked.
"The one with the glasses used a few strange arrows, but there isn't much that can be said from that, though his combat capabilities are certainly far better than was originally recorded, same for the four girls, but in the end, each and every one of them did not take us seriously enough to show anything they were truly capable of…" added Alici, casting a gloomy atmosphere over the Soror.
Bellah sighed and then smiled.
"Why do you all look so down? It should have been expected that we couldn't actually do anything against eight of them all at once, they were covering one another and acting as a group, and besides, I know that you all want to be praised by Father for doing something great, but our main objective is not to take out targets on the list" she reminded her sisters.
"Father wants us to grow our strength and capabilities by leading troops and taking out weaker opponents first, we are to be terrors to the common people of this realm first before we can graduate to facing their powerful warriors…"
"...Especially when everyone here still needs to learn better how to use their soul depth manifestation and weapon- Alici, you summon and unsummon your crossbow too much, you don't have the sort of reserves to be doing this"
"Aegli, you are too stiff when attacking, and you don't properly use energy to reinforce yourself when striking"
"Betil, you worry too much about damaging your weapon, trust Father and don't hesitate to dish out powerful attacks when you feel it is right, also, you need to put more focus on concealing your soul energy, the enemy was seeing them coming much too early"
"Alila, you didn't even use your weapon at all, did you forget to use it, or did you forget to put on the pendant again? And don't forget that your weapon needs to be prepared in advance, you mustn't rush at the first sight of an enemy"
"Basmi, you are still not used to using your weapon and it shows, you missed a lot of opportunities to use it"
"Babriel, I know that standing in the rear is not what you prefer, but you should still pay attention to the fight even if you aren't involved, I noticed you staring the other way"
"Almiel, I don't want to criticise your hobby, but you shouldn't spend too much time on the designs of your creations when in combat, just keep to one look and keep churning it out"
"As for me, I was too short-sighted, overestimated our soul depth manifestation, and underestimated the enemy, we all need to make progress…"
