Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead -
Chapter 798 - 798: Wave Of Gold
Teeth shut at full force, biting into the stone and tearing right through it, Milo narrowly dodged the strike and immediately counterattacked, particles of gold sparking around the point of impact.
And the enemy was thrown into a mess of broken bones and bloody flesh, blue blood flowing en masse, yet, she simply contorted back to normal like nothing happened, even her white uniform seemed to grow back into perfect condition like its owner, making it clearly seem like the attacks were wholly ineffective.
"Ow, ow, ow… You really have no qualms against beating up cute girls, huh?" Alila spoke with her tongue hanging out, eyes drifting to opposite sides.
Milo frowned, sidestepping a blade of flames and deflecting several soul bullets, arching backward to dodge a hammer strike, swiftly moving in to attempt grab Aegli and restrain her, but all he grabbed onto was a filthy abomination that was already midst exploding, leaving him no time to throw it away, but with golden mana coursing through his body, he basically received no damage, still, the blood got onto his face and momentarily blinded him, forcing him to rely on his mana sense to evade attacks.
The inner mana of his enemies was undeveloped, so detecting them like this was difficult for him, and their attacks also lacked this energy, thankfully, they were so densely packed with soul energy, that he could make out their silhouettes due to them repelling the ambient mana so strongly, it wasn't perfect, but he managed to evade long enough to recover his sight.
To say that his opponents were problematic would be an understatement, Milo could hardly do anything about them, Alila was always upon him, but his strikes were seemingly ineffective against her, the golden mana did have the ability to cancel pretty much any ability, and could even inflict effects that mimicked the weakness of the opponent, but it seemed like ti wasn't quite enough currently to go fully through, her abominable transformation would be undone after he hit her, but either it did not cancel her regeneration, or the effects dissipated and she just rose back once she gained access to her ability again.
The solution was simple however, he focused more golden mana into his strikes, at its peak, it was capable of things that had made even Loimos view him as a threat, but once again Alila just took it, and apart from taking more time to regenerate as she had been blown apart, the result was the same.
'There is something about her ability that I don't understand… Or perhaps another ability is at play here?' Milo parried a series of burning bolts and a hail of pebble-sized projectiles, he kicked at the ground and replied with a hail of broken shards of stone, which were all blocked by a curtain of heavy fire.
He looked at each of his opponents, then at the black-cloaked girl, he suspected that she might have something to do with the current predicament, but felt that it wasn't the case.
'Assuming that they only have one ability each… Fire, repeated impact, body manipulation, position exchange… And probably something that has to do with aim for the sharpshooter…' he wasn't certain about all of them, but taking into account what he knew, either they were combining their abilities in a way that allowed them to bypass the effects of his golden mana, Alila's ability was simply enormously powerful and he needed to strike her like he was trying to strike Loimos, or it was the effect of another opponent that was remaining hidden.
The problem here was that they clearly knew about him ahead of time, so they could have prepared many things to counter his golden mana, but he didn't even know what way of power they were using, or even what they were, they looked like humans, but they bled blue blood.
"Aah, fuck this… Hold on tight everyone!" he shouted to his allies who were still being flooded by an unending stream of vile beasts.
'No point in wasting time trying to figure this out' Milo wasn't a muscle brained fool, but he knew very well that he wasn't a genius, such a title would be more fitting for Helena, the way in which he used mana was much more instinct-based and brutish, he didn't weave complex spells, in fact, he barely even used the basic mana bullet spell, he pretty much only used mana to reinforce his body.
So the intricacies of magic were not something he delved in often, and much less into the intricacies of other ways of power, so instead of banging his head against the wall trying to unfurl whatever machination was at play from the Soror, he simply poured a dire amount of golden mana into one fist, not intending on using his strongest possible attack, but what he deemed was enough for the situation at hand.
And he punched down on the ground, the mana seeping deep underground through the cracks and expanding, igniting into a wide dome of gold that tore apart the stone, erased the steam surrounding the area and caused each of his opponents to make a most bewildered expression.
The world was bathed in a golden radiance for the five minutes that followed, and no one but Milo himself could actually see through it properly.
When it finally dissipated, there were no traces of any of the previously present enemies, it was hard to tell if they had been slain or not as the corpses would have been broken down into spirit life, but Milo had focused on sensing the streams of XP that always flowed into one when a kill was done, and he didn't sense anything.
In fact, this made him realise that the abhorrent beasts the Soror had brought with them had not yielded any experience at any point, the light-bearing creatures had, but not them.
'Were they not actual beasts?'
"Milo…" coughing a bit as dust had been risen, Helena walked up to him "...The dosage was a bit… Off"
"Ahah… I guess I overdid it a little?"
"A little would be an understatement, I mean, look at the size of this crater! If your golden mana could not differentiate between friends and foe, we would have been blown away at the very least"
"Did that get any of those girls?" asked Antieeld, pulling the two archers up by their collars as they had been sent rolling from by the blast.
"It did not, they must have exchanged their positions with some of those beasts before it reached them"
"Did that blast reveal anything underground though? We might have gotten lucky-"
"There is just stone" Helena ran her wind around and replied instantly.
"Seems like it's already repairing itself too, the heralds and priestesses must be committing a massacre in the south right now"
"Well… Then I guess we're just going to keep on searching" Toby stretched his shoulders and dusted himself.
