Chapter 203: Friend Or Foe?
Chapter 203: Friend Or Foe?
"Wait...what’s going on?" Morgiana finally asked. "How... How did you get here? What’s happening? Why... uh... couldn’t you get here... sooner? And what happened to your hair?"
Dora turned towards her but remained silent. He then turned his gaze to Morgiana, Lilith, and Iris before placing a hand on his chin.
"...Could that be...Yeah...that makes sense..."
"Dora, what’s happening?!" Iris snapped. "Why are you so quiet?! We thought you wouldn’t join us, people died because..."
"Quiet." His voice resonated in the savannah.
Lilith and Morgiana watched in disbelief as Iris slowly fell to her knees.
"We need you to stay alive, not talk, and I’m not going to make a joke of myself anymore by hearing your complaints. Shut your mouth or I’ll send you to Sloth."
The young girl looked at him, paralyzed. At that moment, thousands of questions crossed their minds, but his threat forbade them from asking them.
Zuri looked up, raising an eyebrow.
"Sloth? Haven’t you killed her yet?"
The girls shared a gasp of amazement.
"Sloth?" Lilith whispered.
"No, I’ve decided to keep her alive for now. I might need her for something else in the future. Speaking of which, where are the other candidates?"
"Wait, Dora?! What the hell?!" Mercy rushed towards him, shaking him by the collar. "What the... No, first of all, what are you doin’ here?! You... What’s goin’ on with this attitude? And... What happened to her?"
She turned to Zuri who fixed her hair, a mocking smile on her lips. Dora closed his eyes and raised his eyebrows in answer. With her head lowered, Iris clearly understood the situation.
"You’re not Dora, are you?" the student council president whispered.
Lilith and Morgiana turned towards her, trembling with incomprehension. Mercy, trembling, slowly let go of the boy who sighed and scratched his head.
"One in seven, but I’m starting to think that the hardest part will be not to sew one’s lips shut. Despair, where are the candidates?"
As Zuri summarized their situation, Iris brought her hand to her face, overwhelmed by the situation, Mercy’s eyes went blank.
Meanwhile, on the beach, the group stood guard against this new silhouette standing on the giant’s half-head.
She wiped the blood from her twin swords and turned her emerald eyes to Hope.
Behind, people murmured as they recognized this form from the legends, this girl was definitely an elf. She slowly raised her sword and pointed it at Hope.
"Fuck! She’s also an enemy!" Cid shouted as he gathered energy in his hands. "Hope, move!"
"Wait! Don’t attack him!" Freya rushed towards them.
Hope, with the giant’s blood drying on his body, looked at the girl as if hypnotized, and then, in a surreal scene, she opened her mouth.
"...Friend?"
Freya stopped a few meters from them. Everyone froze in shock, hearing their tongues in a stranger’s mouth for the first time.
The Duke’s daughter flinched and reached out to her comrades to calm them, keeping her eyes on the young girl.
"F-friends! Yes, friends!... We... uh... we peace... no enemies..."
The elf turned his emerald eyes towards her, sparkling like the most beautiful precious stone. In broad daylight, the girl was a true wonder of nature. Her dark skin seemed to glow under the sun, and her black hair tied in long twin-tails with bangs over her left eye, added a touch of grace to her warrior build. She was thin, of average height, just a little shorter than Hope, and she wore what looked like traditional combat attire with strange designs.
The silence lasted for a moment, everyone feared another attack and no one doubted that if they were to kill this one it would be a big blow to their mission, but then the girl smiled.
"Friend." She says.
Freya’s shoulders fell and everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Mentally exhausted, the Duke’s daughter turned to her comrade and let a smile appear until Eryl appeared behind her and brandished her dagger.
A mechanical clash took place between the servant’s dagger and the elf’s sword just behind Freya who fell on the sand.
The servant faced the elf, the latter frowning with a growing smile.
"Freya... never turn your back... on these things!" She turned and kicked but the elf jumped back.
She tilted her head, a playful smile on her lips, and extended her swords to the sides.
"Things? So rude, aren’t we friends?"
Everyone stared in disbelief.
"She...she speaks our language?!" A member whispered.
Eryl grinned, her eyes glowing orange.
"They do...all of them."
Back on Dora’s side, Zuri had just finished her explanations. The young boy, motionless all this time, crossed his hands, observing the horizon.
"...Waiting on the beach? How pointless. They put themselves in a situation where they can’t make any decisions until they are contacted by a team rushing towards danger. Not only is it ridiculous, but look how they all got erased."
Zuri nodded, glancing at Lilith.
"The good thing is that the mysterious energy started spreading when we entered the savannah, so I guess the others should still be able to use their power... only if it really stops at the savannah. Now... considering the candidates, have you decided what to do with those who are not related to you?"
The four girls flinched, understanding the meaning of the young woman’s words. Morgiana stepped back, shaking her head.
"Are you trying to run away?" Are you sure you want to be away from us?" Zuri said, her eyes turning black. She stood up menacingly, facing the four shivering girls.
"None of you are related to my lord, this heresy should be punished."
The girls stepped back, Lilith held her hammer and glanced at Dora several times. The man himself glanced at them before sighing, a hand on his forehead.
"Why am I surrounded by so many idiots?"
He took several quick breaths and raised his hands in the air, a movement that made the girls shiver, and then five black magic circles formed above him.
