Chapter 202: And The Monster Entered Hell

Dora emerged from the darkness, his bright purple aura mixing with his glowing yellow aura, forming a stunning array of colors that exploded into a breathtaking show. Mercy, Lilith, Morgiana, and Iris were frozen in amazement, trying to understand the strange event happening in front of them. The mystical energy became stronger, and a deep silence fell over them.

Dora underwent a profound metamorphosis, as his aura morphed into a pitch-black sphere pulsating with vibrant energy. In an instant, a sinuous serpent with an obsidian body materialized and sank its fangs into the giant that was holding Zuri.

A blood-curdling shriek escaped the creature’s lips as it writhed in agony, while the serpentine entity coiled around its form, causing its flesh to turn a ghastly shade of purple and swell. The remaining giants halted in their tracks, their eyes fixated on the grotesque spectacle unfolding before them.

Time seemed to stand still as the afflicted giant expanded and contracted repeatedly, only to birth yet another serpent from its distended abdomen. The cycle continued unabated, as each new snake sank its venomous fangs into another giant, perpetuating the macabre process. Gradually, an immense mass of inky darkness engulfed the entirety of the giants, trapping them within their sinister grasp.

Morgiana, Iris, and Lilith were paralyzed with fear when they heard a breath behind them, followed by a gust of wind. The dark matter swiftly gathered in the center, swirling ominously. Waves of energy radiated from the material as it shrank in size. Mercy, sitting on the ground, couldn’t believe her eyes as Zuri walked by and knelt down.

The material continued to shrink, eventually forming a shape that was all too familiar. With long dark gray hair, tattered black clothes, yellow eyes, and a feminine face, Dora appeared in the Kalaharis.

Lilith and Iris rose to their feet with deliberate slowness, the berserker backing of the student council president. Zuri, on the other hand, bowed her head, a subtle grin playing on her lips.

"Finally... I’m so glad you’re okay... I was so worried things wouldn’t go as planned."

Dora glanced down at the palms of his hands, his head cocked to the side.

"Things did not go as planned. It was not wise to attack the second strongest without preparation. Fruitful, but very unwise."

He stood with his hands on his hips, surveying the lifeless bodies scattered around them.

"Is that so? Does that mean... she’s still alive?" Zuri frowned.

"Yes, she wasn’t invincible but I lost a little too much with this fight... but she lost more."

Zuri lifted her gaze to meet his, a hint of frustration evident on her face.

"I should have been there for you...it was my fault."

Dora shifted his gaze towards her, the crimson haze abruptly ascending further.

"Is this supposed to be a mockery of me? Are you saying I can’t defeat her alone?"

He took two steps and stood right in front of her. In response, Zuri swiftly dropped her second knee on the ground.

"Don’t mix up my words, I could have finished her off if I pushed further, I just decided to change the order of execution. I know where to find Glutonny, but if someone steals Envy and Wrath, I will lose them for good. Your only use was as a teleportation point, you are not essential."

Zuri tilted her head down, shutting her eyes as a faint grin played on her lips.

"My sincerest apologies, I was just referring to my wish to fully support you. I know you are second to none."

Dora sighed and scanned his surroundings once more. A short distance away, Mercy stood rooted to the spot, her eyes wide with shock. Normally, she would have rushed over to Dora, brimming with happiness, but this time was different.

Mercy had encountered three versions of Dora in the past: the kind and caring friend, the monstrous Sin devoid of human emotions, and the passive, timid being from the Rift. Each Dora had a distinct energy about them, but the one before her now was unlike any she had seen before.

This Dora exuded a sense of darkness, his demeanor unusually harsh towards Zuri. Despite saving Mercy’s life, his presence was unsettling and completely out of character. What struck Mercy the most was the change in Dora’s aura, it was devoid of any emotion, a stark contrast to the usual blend of energies he carried.

To top it off, Dora seemed to be in a close relationship with Zuri, a stark resemblance to their previous dynamic. He seemed to be in a relationship with her and thus, was surely very close to what had changed the young girl. Something had changed within Dora too, and it was deeply unsettling.

"D...Dora?" Lilith broke the silence.

Dora turned to her and Iris and widened his eyes.

"Hm? Even that one? How come the situation got so out of control?"

"Dora... is it really you?.... You... You came for us..." Iris whispered, her tears falling.

She fell to her knees, leaving Lilith sitting on the ground.

"It’s horrible... what was it? How could this happen?... Everyone... everyone is dead... Grogard is dead, the volunteers... our friends... I... I couldn’t save anyone... Dora..."

The wind abruptly rushed through her, carrying a refreshing sensation. Raising her head, she discovers herself bathed in the soothing emerald glow of Dora’s healing powers. Standing beside her, Lilith too experienced the rejuvenating touch. However, when Dora’s gaze fell upon Mercy, his expression darkened and he fixed his eyes upon her with a furrowed brow.

"...You...what happened to your power?"

Mercy’s heart skipped a beat as she struggled to find her voice. Her eyes darted nervously between Lilith, Morgiana, and Iris, the latter completely oblivious to the shift in the young boy’s demeanor.

"It seems that magic users here are limited in their power," Zuri said, her eyes fixed on Mercy. "Nothing related to the magic function, so this one is particularly weak now."

"Really?" Dora turned to her curiously. "I thought the air was hard to breathe but I wanted to put this on those giant bastards...what about you? Can you use magic?"

Zuri looked up with glowing black eyes.

"Only if I use that kind of power."

The three girls were left speechless, their mouths agape in astonishment, while Dora, on the contrary, couldn’t help but break into a wide grin.

"I see...so that’s it...we found him."
