Chapter 201: Savagery

Chapter 201: Savagery

"HEEEEP!!!! HEEEEELP MEEEE!!!!" A council member shouted as the hellmouth grew closer.

The deafening roar of an explosion reverberated beside her, as Lilith unleashed a devastating blow, obliterating the monstrous creature’s skull.

"Watch out!" A voice shouted behind her.

As she swiftly spun around, she unleashed a devastating circular blow, striking the two colossal hands that were inching closer to her. Meanwhile, Iris unleashed a flurry of mighty sword swings, her face etched with desperation. One towering giant crumbled before her, but the sight was quickly obscured by the onslaught of five more giants charging forward. They mercilessly engulfed two council members and numerous volunteers, their fate concealed by the chaos.

"...Ah...Why? Why is this happening?! Why?!"

She mustered all her strength and unleashed yet another forceful strike, yet to her dismay, it merely produced a gust of wind that sliced through the colossal foe but failed to penetrate the others. Her gaze fell upon her right hand, filled with anguish, as the harsh truth of her situation became undeniable.

"Why can’t I use my power?!"

Everywhere, the same phenomenon was repeated. Among the team members, all the magic users found themselves unable to use any energy. No magic spell, no magic cloak, they were simply powerless and thus became an easy meal for the giants.

Only those skilled in close-quarters combat could engage in battle. However, their abilities were diminished, rendering their fighting prowess less effective. At the forefront of the melee fighters were Iris and Lilith. Morgiana and a handful of other members supported them, but beyond their ranks, a vast group of seventeen magical emissaries stood, all susceptible to harm. Among them, stood Mercy, completely vulnerable.

The girl fell to the ground after trying to hit the hand of a giant who had caught up with a volunteer. She caught herself a little and tried to get up when the horrible sound of torn flesh and bones froze her skeleton.

The giant greedily chewed a comrade, pieces of chair and blood falling next to the girl.

"Mercy, MOVE!!!" Iris shouted, rushing towards her.

Mercy tried to get up, but she found that her body was no longer responding, already paralyzed by the sight of another hand reaching out toward her. The hand moved closer and closer, covering the sun, and casting a final shadow on her.

Her soul was gone and for a moment, she remembered the time she spent with her family as a child.

"Wake up, bitch!!!" Lilith crushed the giant’s head with another horizontal blow.

The noise and blood brought Mercy back to her senses, and the girl was suddenly able to stand. Lilith landed next to her, her eyes burning with rage.

"Get out of here, you idiot!" She shouted at the noble. "You’re not doing anything so don’t give me more work!"

Mercy, speechless, just nodded and began to run away. It was an inconceivable idea to think that she could run in the face of danger, but in that moment, after several minutes of useless struggle and seeing so many comrades serving as appetizers, the young woman understood that she was simply useless and that she would die or lead someone to death if she stood there.

However, in front of her, another group of giants faced three emissaries, one of them screaming into their hands.

"... Lisa?!"

Above, Lisa struggled in the hands of a giant, tears in her eyes, blood flowing from her nose as her organs were crushed, the beast pulled her closer to its maw.

"Help!!!" Mercy shouted, but no one answered.

Behind, Lilith crushed the shoulder of a giant with a single blow, a marvelous move in idea, but when the beast turned its still functioning mouth towards her and bit her left foot, her scream announced a dark turn in the situation.

"Shit! I’m here!" Iris jumped in time, slicing the giant’s jaws and retrieving Lilith, both of them falling between a dozen giants.

Mercy trembled in horror, realizing that she would receive no support. She rushed to Lisa’s side, arms raised towards the giant.

"Saturn Ring!!! Jupiter Fall!!! Damn it!!! Anything! Fireball!!!"

The giant pulled Lisa closer, and the girl barely able to make a sound, lowered her head, eyes closed.

"ANYONE!!! HELP!!!" Mercy screamed at the top of her lungs, just as a giant’s foot landed next to her.

She jumped in surprise, and rolled on the ground, and when she got up, the thing tried to grab her with its other hand.

"Damn...I don’t have time to..."

"OOOaaaargh...!!!" A muffled cry, followed by the sound of objects falling to the ground.

Mercy’s body stopped functioning again, a cold feeling spreading from her fingers to her shoulders. For the first time in a long time, she felt something more than her heart in her chest, she felt her stomach burn, and she felt her gut boil.

She could no longer see the slaughter on the battlefield, but she was well aware of her surroundings. She slowly turned back and her shoulders fell at the sight of Lisa bitten in half, from stomach to legs.

The girl’s eyes opened a little, looking up at the blurry sky, and slowly, she closed them.

A shrill scream echoed through the macabre theater as one of her friends rushed in front of Mercy and cut off the giant’s arm, forcing it to release the girl’s body.

"Lisa! LISAAAA!!!" he shouted as he rushed towards her, neglecting the giant who only had one arm cut off.

On the red ground and still alive, Lisa was watching the sky, but her mind was elsewhere. She saw flashes of her time with the student council, her training, the people she had bonded with, and those she didn’t want to bond with.

In an instant that seemed like an eternity, she thought.

(... Why did I go this far?... I was alive... I could have stayed at... at home...)

Unconsciously, her tears flowed, all her energy used in the latest nonsense she muttered.

"Eh... Zunnah... should... have been like her... right?... axim..."

Above her, the blood of her crushed friend fell on her, giving her a final shower.

"urgh... Dad... I... don’t... want... to be a... k...kn... ah..."

She took her last breath, leaving the world in a foreign land on the first day. That day, alongside the volunteers, all the members of the council died one after the other.

Mercy stood in front of the girl’s body and between a dozen giants, further away, Morgiana and Iris were fighting with Lilith on hand, the young berserker suffering from completely crushed foot.

Mercy looked around blankly. No more shouts, no more howls, the entire combat team was reduced to her, Iris, Morgianna, and Lilith, a few volunteers rushing into the distance, caught and killed instantly by an endless swarm of giants.

Head down and eyes wide, Mercy stopped thinking, a giant hand reaching out for her, and then she found herself facing the ground.

"You are on the way," Zuri said, standing next to her.

Mercy looked up, her tall friend facing the giant approaching her.

"...Zuri..." she whispered in an inaudible voice.

The giants rushed at Morgiana, Lilith, and Iris at the same time, Mercy was on the ground, and Zuri was in the hand of a giant, but as the beast lifted her, the young woman displayed a euphoric and blushing smile.

"Forgive me in advance if I can’t control myself... I’ve been waiting too long."

As the giant’s hand descended towards the earth, Zuri’s body lay motionless on the ground, or so it appeared. Suddenly, from her feet, a dark substance began to seep out, spreading like an ominous stain. Slowly, it crept upwards, taking the form of hands and a head, gradually shaping into a humanoid figure.

"Nucleus."
