Chapter 200: Welcome To Kalaharis
Chapter 200: Welcome To Kalaharis
In the wide-open expanse of the plain, Iris’s group struggled to move forward. Anxious expressions, fearful glances. Just a couple of hours earlier, they had finally escaped the dense forest. Initially, they felt relieved, but as they ventured into the vast savannah, the looming threats heightened the group’s unease. Grogard led the way, keeping a watchful eye on their surroundings.
"Strange... there’s really nothing there, not even any animals."
A young woman approached him.
"Couldn’t it be due to the Twilight of Gods? They said there was a giant creature crossing the sea, right? What if we were too late?"
"A Player? Did you forget that Sin avatars were stronger?"
"I know but... well, we know that Greed, The Queen, and Fenrir ’s General are stronger, but since the dean..."
Grogard waved his hand in disapproval.
"Forget it, this is the land of Wrath, this monster is not built like your Sloth Avatar, have you forgotten my story? This madman would cross the entire continent if he knew there was something like this here. In fact, if he knew the Twilight of the Gods was happening, he would literally cross the sea."
As they strolled along, a gust of wind picked up, carrying with it a pungent aroma that seemed to invigorate Grogard.
"Make no mistake, friends, this place is not your peaceful continent with its nobles and knights, here there are no citizens, no rules, no mercy, a true place for beasts and monsters! Danger lurks everywhere..."
"Here we go again." Lilith sighed.
The elderly gentleman launched into yet another one of his passionate monologues, hopping from one foot to the other in an odd manner while gesticulating wildly with his arms. Gradually, a crimson haze enveloped him.
"Isn’t it exceptional?! On the one hand, we are in modern times, everything is beautiful, but on the other... it’s hell on earth! HAHAHAHA!!!"
The group growled, keeping their distance from the crazy old man before he lunged at them again. The more the man spoke, the denser his aura became, the more disturbing it felt, and this red mist was starting to become difficult to breathe.
Iris coughed and gave him an annoyed look.
"Mr. Grogard, I think it would be best if we could remain silent. We can’t see anything so let’s not warn them of our presence."
"...Oh? And you think they haven’t seen us already? Ohoho...my sweet little girl, you have no idea what kind of monsters are around us."
With a menacing grin on his face, he tightened his grip into a fist before his eyes.
"Why do you think no expedition has been successful? Why do you think Wrath knew we were coming? These things have reached a new level of evolution, young lady...they have keener senses than any other monster, and you know why? Because they live in this hell forever... here there is no training, no hope, no miracle, it’s KILL ...OR BE KIL-" A hand emerged from beneath him, grabbing him from the legs up to the neck.
A blood-curdling scream of terror tore through the team, sending shivers down their spines. The air grew heavy with fear as the hand slowly ascended. Suddenly, the ground beneath them cracked open, unveiling a grotesque sight, a second hand emerged, forcefully pushing the earth aside. And then, to their horror, a colossal, disfigured head emerged from the depths, casting an eerie shadow over the trembling team.
"A... A GIANT!" Shouted a member of the crew.
The beast stood up, about eighteen meters high, lifting Grogard before its horrible face, its fingers forbidding the old man from screaming.
Iris unsheathed her sword, the metallic blade gleaming in the sunlight. The rest of the group mirrored her actions, ready to face whatever awaited them. But as they prepared for battle, a bone-chilling sight unfolded before their eyes. The earth beneath their feet split open, revealing monstrous figures emerging from the depths. The giants towered over them, their menacing presence sending shivers down their spines.
"SHIT! WATCH OUT!!!"
As they desperately tried to escape the clutches of the hideous hands, their aura emanated from each of them. Mercy extended her trembling hand towards the towering creature that held Grogard captive.
She unleashed a devastating magical blast and then... nothing happened, the monstrous beast ruthlessly tore off Grogard’s head.
"Ah..." The young girl stood up, frozen.
All around her, eyes were fixated on the ominous figure of the towering beast feasting on Grogard. Silence hung heavy in the air, not a single word uttered, not even a whisper.
Time stood still, until the sudden echo of footsteps shattered the eerie stillness, jolting them back to the harsh reality of the moment.
All around them, giants were coming from the ground.

Hope and Cid finally arrived at the beach, only to be met with a horrifying sight. Three massive giants lay lifeless on the sand, their bodies twisted in unnatural positions. But what they saw next made their blood run cold, leaving them frozen in terror.
"Wait! We’re not enemies!" Freya shouted at the figures in front of the group.
A small group of warriors faced them, armed with swords, spears, or maces. They were not towering figures, but rather ordinary humans donning helmets shaped like various animals, a fly, a lion, and more. They observed the group, closely monitoring their every move. Freya, positioned between her companions and them, made a visible effort to diffuse the tension that hung in the air.
"... What... Who are they?" Hope whispered.
"...They look like humans... Wait, I thought there weren’t any here?"
The warriors observed the bodies of the giants, murmuring among themselves. The duke’s daughter signaled to her comrades to encourage them to calm down.
"They were chasing those giants, we have the same enemies...maybe we could ally with them...everyone please don’t do anything rash."
She slowly walked towards them, raising her hands.
"Look... No danger... us... friends..."
The weight of their weapons pressed against their backs as they moved forward, the atmosphere becoming increasingly oppressive. Eryl squinted her orange eyes.
"Freya, don’t let your guard down... these people... they have the same type of energy as us."
The group members began whispering to each other, causing a stir. Hope’s eyes widened in sheer astonishment.
"... The same... but then... they are..."
"They’re close to a Sin Avatar." Cid finished.
Freya came to a halt a couple of meters away from the warriors, a massive roasted body lying between them. Noticing their lack of response, she slowly brought down her hands. The warriors ceased their conversation, a heavy silence enveloping them.
Freya pondered, her lip caught between her teeth, struggling to discern the correct course of action. Were these people friends or foes? She understood that the outcome of this encounter held immense significance for their expedition, and this realization burdened her shoulders even more.
"...Eryl, you’ve been here before, haven’t you..."
"VORACITY!"
Before Freya’s head could be struck by the mace, a crimson energy bomb collided with the warrior.
"Ah!" The girl flinched and jumped back, the warrior falling to pieces.
"Attack!!!" A crew member shouted.
The call to action echoed through the air, igniting a wave of chaos. In response, the other warriors swiftly leaped in various directions, their auras surging forth as the group charged toward them.
A dozen warriors ran towards the group and clashed with emissaries.
"NNgh!!! Strong..." a man with a large sword said, his sword clashing with a warrior’s spear.
The fight spread to the shore, with the melee fighters and tank facing the warrior. The numbers were about 15 to 28 in favor of Freya’s team, so they entered into battle with confidence, but in the hand-to-hand battle, the warrior showed physical strength beyond belief .
"Argh!" A woman fell under the pressure of a warrior’s sword.
The warrior raised his weapon, ready to finish off the woman.
"Moon Slash"
Liliana dashed across the beach with the speed of lightning, delivering a powerful blow to the warrior. Right behind her, Hope leaped into the fray, ready to join the fight. As the battle intensified, the warriors seemed to have the upper hand, but they soon found themselves confronted by the well-coordinated tanks and DPS. The sand beneath them quickly became stained with their blood, marking the climax of the fierce confrontation.
"Healers, don’t get too close! Tanks, generate a shield for our comrades!" Freya ordered, her hands glowing purple.
On the field, a man shouted to his comrades.
"Lady Freya is about to attack! Everyone prepare!"
"Tanks, withdraw!"
"Deploy the shields!"
"Wait, I’m not strong enough to resist Lady Freya’s attacks with my techniques!"
A radiant white aura descended upon the entire field, engulfing every individual present. The unexpected sight left everyone in awe, their jaws dropping in astonishment. As the warriors charged towards their opponents, their strikes were met with an impenetrable barrier. It was as if an invisible shield had materialized, preventing any harm from befalling those within its embrace.
"Eh?" A crew member flinched.
As the scene unfolded, Freya’s gaze shifted towards Marie, the young maiden who effortlessly controlled a levitating screen.
"Go ahead, this should be enough to stop your attack." She burst a bubble, her gaze wandering towards the sea.
Freya nodded and raised her hand to the sky.
"That will only stop it because I don’t need to go farther than that."
As the crew gazed up at the sky, they were awestruck by the formation of enchanting magic circles. A cascade of vibrant purple rays descended upon the beach from within these mystical rings. It was a breathtaking sight that left everyone speechless.
Amidst this spectacle, they beheld the sheer power and magnificence of one of their mightiest fighters. The sand beneath their feet began to rise, leaving a haunting trail of scorched bodies in its wake.
Marie swiftly raised her shields, freeing her comrade from harm’s way. The crew stood in awe, their breaths caught in their chests, as they witnessed the incredible display of strength. However, amidst the marvel, Freya’s attention was momentarily diverted. Her gaze fixated on the lifeless bodies strewn across the distant landscape.
(I was sure that would be enough to destroy them... are the people of this country that harsh?)
The group managed to compose themselves after the sudden assault. Hope, standing in the background, gazed upon the fallen warrior’s charred remains. Despite the gruesome sight, his body remained intact.
Mesmerized by the warrior’s helmet, he leaned in closer, his hands tentatively reaching out to touch it.
(...Are they really humans?)
"HOPE!!!!" Cid shouted, the jaw of one of the giants reaching Hope.
The young boy’s heart raced as he realized the danger closing in on him. In a split second, the monstrous teeth were upon him, and a river of crimson flowed onto the ground. The team members stood motionless. Hope sank to the ground, drenched in blood, trapped between the massive jaws of the beast, but the jaw never closed, the body stopped moving. The giant’s head was cut in two from the jaw.
As he knelt there, paralyzed by shock, a sudden movement caught his eye. A shadowy figure perched atop the creature’s upper jaw, breathing life back into his stunned body.
He gazed up to behold and saw it. Dark skin, flowing black hair, two swords on hands, and elegantly pointed ears, standing before him, was an elf.
