Chapter 180: Tears

Chapter 180: Tears

Malia, Solaria, Dora, and Wendy enjoyed a tranquil afternoon at the inn. Malia and her kids played a card game featuring fairy tale characters, while Solaria observed them and snacked on fruit. Laughter filled the air as they joked around, with Malia purposely losing to let Dora and Wendy engage in a fierce battle, led by the young girl.

"Haha! You fell into my trap, I’m using the Elf champion to neutralize your Dragon King!" Wendy shouted as she threw a card with an elf pattern onto a Dragon card.

Dora carefully observed the inscription on the card before dropping all his cards.

"How come an elf can stop a dragon? That makes no sense!"

"That’s because the elf is a Lady and the Dragon is a nice dragon. They’re going to get married and stop fighting."

Malia chuckled at her daughter’s reflection, causing Solaria to also let out a laugh. Dora grumbled as he tried to come up with a comeback. Malia gave them a gentle smile and caught sight of Solaria in the background. The princess, feeling flustered, immediately averted her eyes to the floor.

"Why don’t you play too? I lost, so there’s room for one more."

Solaria flinched, taken aback, as she turned to look at her. Once again, Malia had managed to catch her off guard in the most unexpected way. However, this time, the princess maintained eye contact, finally recognizing the affection conveyed through the woman’s gaze.

"Don’t be shy, the first rule of the Carpers house..."

"No one is left behind!" Wendy shouted as she jumped on Dora.

Solaria pointed her finger at her, trembling with emotion.

"... Really?... You... accept me?"

"Hm, you didn’t do anything wrong, sort of... or rather, let’s not think about sad things, I want everyone in this house to be happy. Speaking of which..."

She stood up and looked at everyone in turn.

"Let’s move on tomorrow, okay? Now that we’re reunited, I want to go somewhere we can get out of the house, maybe in the countryside or even a mountain?"

Once more, she directed her gaze towards Solaria, but this time the princess pounced on her, enveloping her in a tight hug and weeping.

"Yes... Yes, I want to go... thank you so much... for forgiving me..." She screamed with all her heart, which seemed to embarrass Malia.

In response, she embraced her tightly. Wendy, in turn, enthusiastically joined in and hugged them even tighter, all while Dora observed silently. A fleeting smile appeared on his face, but as Malia never contradicted Solaria, his smile gradually faded away.

(... Will she really come too? But then her mother will target us...)

He paused, taken aback by the sudden change in circumstances as the door creaked open slightly. Candace entered, gasping for air, as she fixed her eyes on Solaria.

"Miss Candace, what is this? Why are you here?!" Malia stepped forward, placing herself between the dean and his family.

"... Solaria..."

The Princess recoiled, seeking refuge behind Malia. Observing his reaction, the woman clenched her jaw and proceeded towards the dean.

"I thought that despite everything you could be a reasonable person, why are you doing this, Candace?"

"T... There’s no time, they know you’re here Solaria!"

"...What?!" cried the princess.

(A few minutes ago in the Queen’s mansion)

Right after Moonra disappeared, the ground cracked one last time, but to the surprise of the maids, it was due to the queen falling to her knees.

"Why... Why are they so much against me?!... I just want to make them love me... I just want to be with my children... they are all I have... my last family... my last memory of him... Why is this so hard?!"

Tears streamed down her face as her energy faded away. The maids exchanged glances before moving closer to offer comfort. At that moment, Nosfera turned to Ratoncia and whispered softly.

"Go for the Prince... You must bring him back before he reaches the town..."

"Eeeh?! Meee?! WHY?"

"Because! GO!"

The mouse maid moved away and hurried outside. She started running for a while on the same road as the Prince, but while he was using his power, she wasn’t. Deep in thought, she kept the images of the Queen in mind and her steps gradually slowed down.

(... If I find him... and bring him back... he will tell her, right? He will tell her that I also knew... Maybe he will even put everything on me!)

She raised her gaze to the horizon and suddenly, her feet stopped.

(But if I don’t find him...)

Back in their room, Solaria was trembling all over her body, facing the dean. The latter, clenched her fists.

"Could you just listen to me?!"

"NO! I won’t go back there!

"You are the daughter of the source of all their problems! They can’t take revenge on her so they will target you!"

"And I’m telling you that I won’t go back to her! I’m going to live with the Carpers from now on, leave us alone!"

Next to the window, Malia observed the chaos in the town, anxious for her family. Wendy clung to Dora who kept his eyes on the ground.

(How did they know she was here?... Hope? Marie? Mercy? Someone else?... It must be one of them... only they know...)

"You want to leave with them? What about your mother?! Once she finds out, she will kill everyone! Are you that selfish?!"

"Yes! Yes! I am selfish, and I won’t stop! I’m tired of being told what to do, I’m tired of being a toy for her! Let me have my happiness for once!!!!! !!!!"

In an instant, a breathtaking event unfolded, Solaria’s eyes shimmered orange and her body released a powerful shockwave, forcing Candace and Malia to kneel. Everyone was left stunned, unable to move from the spectacle before them.

"...Urgh... Uh?" The Princess flinched, noticing everyone’s gaze.

Candace stood up, her eyes trembling.

"...You...you are..."

Dora got up in her turn, his yellow eyes bright and frowning, sweat on his forehead.

"... She too... her soul is no longer that of a human... she is..."

"ENOUGH!!!" Malia’s scream silenced the room.

Holding her head with both arms, she knelt down, her eyes welling up with tears. She turned towards them slowly, her face displaying a look of desperation.

"Enough... No more... No more power... no more of this... no more of these things!"

She faced the ground, her tears falling onto the floor.

"Candace... Solaria... Please... go... leave me... leave my family... for the love of God... leave us alone!"

Loud sobs escaped Solaria. She shook her head in denial and shifted her gaze to Dora, only to find the boy looking away in disbelief. Tears streamed down her face, blurring her vision. She frantically searched for Wendy, who was beside her mother, attempting to provide comfort. With tears welling up in her eyes, Solaria slowly retreated before turning on her heels and rushing out.

"Wait! No! Don’t go alone!" Candace rushed after her.

Dora looked at the door for a moment then looked down. Nothing else could be done, nothing could help them. A piercing sensation pinched his heart, his hands trembling strangely.

- What are you doing?

He blinked and shook his head. He looked at the palm of his hand again, space seeming to swirl around him. Was it just his imagination?

"What is she doing?" A voice brought him back to reality, Malia standing, facing the door.

"That girl... if she goes out like that... urgh... what’s wrong with me? Dora..."

She turned to her children, looking at her in confusion.

"Dora...please...if people see her she will be in danger...bring her back."

Malia cast a desperate glance at him, causing Dora’s mind to momentarily freeze before he suddenly found himself sprinting down the street. It felt like he had jumped through time, with his senses only providing him with fragmented details of his surroundings

His last memory was Malia hugging Wendy and a voice that wasn’t his speaking to them. He told them one thing, but he didn’t remember it, and Malia’s eyes widened in response.

He sped up, trying to concentrate on the task at hand, but in the shadows of a street he was crossing, a figure stood up.

"How surprising, such a simple place and yet so complicated to find. You hid it really well, Candace."
