Chapter 181: Scream

Chapter 181: Scream

As she ran at full speed, Solaria was completely oblivious to the world around her. Her mind was consumed by the painful memories of Malia’s rejection and Dora’s indifference. The images played over and over in her head, replaying the scenes of her heart being broken. The burning sensation in her chest grew stronger with every step she took, causing her to grit her teeth in frustration. She couldn’t shake off the feeling of hurt and disappointment, and so she ran, hoping to escape the pain, even if only for a moment.

(Why? Why is it always like this? Why are you all so horrible?)

The memories of her friends turning their backs on her played in her mind, prompting her to shut her eyes.

(I never betrayed anyone, I was knocked out like all of you... Why are you blaming me?! She was the one at fault, she was the one who did everything, why are you all targeting me? !)

As she sprinted, a vibrant orange vapor started emanating from her body. Far in the distance, Candace struggled to close the gap between them. Despite exerting her utmost efforts, the Princess remained unattainable, her velocity relentlessly escalating. Eventually, they reached an intersection where a chaotic crowd had gathered, their screams reverberating through the air as they formed an impenetrable human barrier.

Dread consumed the dean as she anxiously scanned the crowd. She dreaded the moment when her true identity would be exposed, but what she witnessed next was beyond her worst nightmares. Solaria, her body pulsating with raw energy, prepared to unleash her wrath upon the unsuspecting crowd. Yet, before she could strike, a surge of electricity surged through her veins, paralyzing her in place.

The people standing before them were no longer ordinary citizens, but a bloodthirsty horde armed with crude weapons and flaming torches. And there, atop one of the pikes, was the severed head of Moonra, a trophy of their savagery.

Solaria came to a sudden stop, her body freezing a few meters away from the bustling crowd. The haunting sound of her last footstep echoed through the air, creating an eerie atmosphere that seemed to envelop her. As she stood there, time seemed to stretch, elongating each passing second, allowing her to take in every detail of the horrifying spectacle that lay before her.

Severed limbs skewered on sharp pikes, clothing soaked in crimson blood, and the lifeless body of the Prince consumed by roaring flames next to a vehicle and a pile of mutilated corpses.

Gradually, bit by bit, the Princess’s jaw extended to an unimaginable extent, contorting her previously dainty characteristics into a hideous, nightmarish visage. Her once vibrant eyes now emitted an eerie, pale white glow, completely devoid of any trace of humanity or familiarity.

A sound, more primal and terrifying than anything imaginable, tore through the air, emanating from her gaping maw. It was a cry that transcended language, comprehension, and sanity itself. The very space around her seemed to tremble and warp, causing every glass surface to explode into a million glittering fragments.

The rioters, caught in the chaos, fell to their knees, hands clamped over their ears in a desperate attempt to block out the deafening noise. Candace and Dora, who had just arrived on the scene, could only watch in as the world around them descended into madness. And then, in a blinding flash of light, Solaria’s mouth began to glow a deep red, casting an eerie pall over the surroundings.

The air itself seemed to catch fire, turning a sickly shade of orange as her scream rose to a fevered pitch. Her scream morphed into a high-pitched, piercing wail, sending out an orange shockwave that rippled outward from her body. In its wake, everything within a hundred-meter radius was instantly vaporized, leaving nothing but a scorched, empty wasteland.

A thick, dark mist enveloped the room, obscuring the girl from view. As the mist dissipated, she found herself alone in a desolate space. Her cries echoed off the walls as she dropped to the ground, trembling. Slowly, she made her way toward a spherical object lying on the floor. When she finally reached it, her wails intensified. Clutching Moonra’s decapitated head, she held it up to her face.

The Prince’s head, its features twisted in a frozen grimace, was cradled in her hands, blood trickling down onto the cold ground. Solaria’s piercing scream reverberated through the empty room, growing louder and more desperate until she was violently dragged away.

"Leave it! Don’t look at him!"

Dragging her behind, Candace exerted all her strength to make her release her grip on her brother’s head. They had somehow managed to survive the devastating shockwave, and now Candace was desperately trying to block Solaria’s view, shielding her from the sight of Moonra’s remains.

Behind them, Dora stood frozen in shock, unable to process the horrifying scene unfolding before him. Moonra, who had once been a fascinating character in Dora’s life, now lay in a state of utter destruction.

Despair enveloped him completely, as he realized there was no chance left, no assistance to be found, the Prince had met his demise. Moving towards them with a sluggish pace, he felt his body betraying him once more, until he stood face to face with the severed head. A flurry of memories flooded his mind, accompanied by a searing pain in his head. The sight of the decapitated head at his feet was horrifying enough, but it was the all-too-familiar sensation that truly shattered him.

"LEAVE ME!!!" Solaria forcefully shoved Candace backward, causing her to stumble several meters away.

The dean, covered in dirt, swiftly rose to his feet and charged towards her, desperate to prevent her from reclaiming the head, only to be thrown off once more.

"Don’t touch me! Don’t stay near me, I hate you! I hate all of you! Why are you here now? Why don’t you abandon me like before? I hate you! Die! Die! I want everyone to die!!!"

Candace, with lifeless eyes, approached her once again, but this time Solaria couldn’t push her away as she embraced her from behind, gripping her arm tightly, while the Princess cursed the world.

"I hate you all!!! Why did he die? How could this happen?! We are the children of a fucking Sin, you are supposed to be untouchable idiots! How did this happen? Why are you so useless?!"

A sharp, searing pain tore through Dora’s face. In a desperate attempt to understand the extent of the damage, he reached out to touch his face, only to be met with a horrifying realization: his sense of touch had vanished, leaving him numb and helpless. As he lifted his head, his eyes met the chilling gaze of the princess, filled with pure hatred.

"Why are you here? Why did you come?! You could have saved him, you could have saved everyone, why are you the one in control?! You stupid coward! Die! Die too!"

As her hands crashed onto the ground, her eyes met his once more, and in that instant, her face transformed.

"... Is this a nightmare? Please, I beg of you, let it be a nightmare... it cannot be real, there are three sins around us... it’s impossible..."

Tears cascaded down her cheeks, leaving Dora utterly motionless, and as he remained immobile, the girl’s screams grew louder. Desperation consumed her, and she clenched handfuls of sand, hurling them at Dora’s legs.

"Why do you always ignore me? I hate you! I hate you so much! Leave! Just go away! You are not Dora!"

Solaria’s tears erupted once more, uncontrollable and overwhelming. Candace rushed to her side, enveloping her in a tight embrace, but it offered little solace. Dora felt utterly helpless as the girl’s words echoed relentlessly in his head, each one a painful reminder of her own inadequacy. He wanted to respond, to offer comfort, but his face betrayed him, revealing only a profound fracture that seemed to divide his very being.

"... Why? Why do you all continue to blame me for the consequences of your actions?"

The clear space was suddenly filled with the resounding echoes of his words, catching Dora completely off guard. He had been under the impression that he had merely thought those words, but now that they reverberated around him, he was bewildered.

He brought his right hand up to his face, It was then that he could truly feel it, a distinct oblique line that traversed from the upper left to the lower right corner of his face. The gravity of the situation dawned upon him as he comprehended that his perspective was not merely faltering; he had completely lost sight in his right eye.

To make matters worse, the words he uttered seemed to escape from a mouth that he had no control over. His eyes trembled, seemingly adrift within his own body until they locked with Candace’s gaze. At that moment, he understood that looking at her was the worst decision he had made.
