Chapter 128: Who... Are You?
Chapter 128: Who... Are You?
The casting was over, the door was closed for the most important reunion. Everyone was either sitting or standing against a wall, with Iris, Freya, Zuri, and Mercy taking each place near Dora, for their own will and to protect him from Hope further away.
Agiel, sitting on a chair in front of the bed, crossed his legs.
"So, let’s summarize what we know. You said on the train that you were not the one called Anesidora Carper, and I assume you don’t mean that you are what he called a Persona. "
Dora nodded hesitantly, he glanced at the girls near him and their confused expressions forced him to lower his head.
"Alright, then why don’t you tell us who you are? »
"... I don’t know." said Dora, lowering his gaze.
"This is bullshit!!!" Hope stood up angrily, but once again the emissaries blocked his path.
Frustrated, he sat down again. Dora looked at him, then at his own hand.
"It’s not that I don’t know who Dora is... I... I have memories of Anesidora Carper... but not just him. That day, I don’t know how... or what... but an anomaly crossed this world. This anomaly was looking for a body."
He calms down by looking at his reflection in the window.
"But not just anybody... He was looking for Anesidora."
The emissaries looked at each other, Agiel, keeping a serious expression leaning forward.
"Anesidora? Just Anesidora? Not an Avatar, but mostly Anesidora? Do you know why?"
Dora put a finger to his lips, thinking hard, then shook his head.
"I don’t know... I think this thing could... it’s just the feeling I have, this thing could take over anyone, but its main target was the Dora of this world.... This is the memory that I inherited from its attempt to possess him."
A spark shone in Agiel’s eyes.
"You got it’s memory?"
"Just a little... Just an infinite tiny bit... but there was so much in this few."
He looked up and observed Agiel whose face had darkened.
"I saw images of this world... Before... No, more like during the millennium. I saw other worlds too... It’s like if... like if it only lasted an instant, but at the same time, I got to know everything... even memories I shouldn’t have. This thing... I don’t have any idea of what it was but... if I’m here now, it’s because a part of it entered Anesidora, but couldn’t remain. I am... an extract of this thing, with all the memories of Anesidora. The real Anesidora should be the one called Greed now."
A silence planned over the room. Everyone’s faces were in shock. Freya stared at him, astonished, Mercy and Iris were frozen in place and the dean stood up.
"Impossible... this... no... Dora is..."
"Wait." Agiel interrupted the Dean. "You said that you’re not Anesidora because you got memories from other worlds when the thing entered him, but Greed said that there was another half before this happened, also... I have reason to believe that your memory was increasing back from the beginning, you just got so much information that you’re lost in an identity crisis."
Dora, with a surprised expression, frowned.
"... No, I... I know that I existed somewhere before... this world... I have memories that..."
"The world of origins." Agiel said ominously.
It was a simple sentence bearing no sense, but when everyone noticed Dora’s face, they frowned in anguish.
The young boy had his mouth slowly opening and his eyes widened. He lowered his head slowly, beads of sweat pearling on his forehead.
"No..."
Agiel raised his head.
"Why? You know this name too, don’t..."
"Don’t do it..."
In front of everyone, his expression changed from confusion to terror.
"Don’t do anything, don’t try anything... if it concerns the world of origin... I won’t cooperate anymore if you go that far."
Freya frowned and turned to Agiel, visibly waiting for an explanation, but the latter’s eyes were only for Dora.
"I see... In that case, I won’t continue on this topic, just, could you give me at least one explanation, like a reason to not try anything about.."
"Sword and Shield." Dora said in a breath.
He stared at Agiel with eyes shaking in fear.
"If you try anything... with the world of origin... the Sword and the Shield will destroy this world... Please, don’t do anything about it... The thing in the Rift is also trying not to attract them here."
He lowered his head, starting to tremble. The others looked at each other, this conversation seemed to be a code language between them, but what was clear was that a threat bigger than the Twilight of Gods was sleeping somewhere.
Agiel took a pensive stance, glancing from time to time at Dora. He then sighed and shook his head.
"I see... After all, if you have the memories of the thing, you would also have the same feelings. Considering that it doesn’t want to attract these Swords and Shields, it would be normal that you consider them dangerous too. For the time being, let’s just focus on the Twilight of Gods... Oh, just one last thing..."
Dora looked at him worriedly.
With a sharp expression, Agiel asked.
"Are there others Dora in other worlds?"
His eyes seemed to pierce through Dora’s soul, and the young boy, isolated in his despair, looked at his reflection in the window, his eyes starting to shake.
"They..."
"Hm?"
"They are... We are..." He closed his eyes as if he was in great pain and suddenly, his shaking stopped.
"Everywhere. We are everywhere... But we are not all Dora... and the Dora of this universe is the most important... only in this part of the... the..." He brought his hand to his face, veins appearing on his temper. "But we were never ’Anesi’... there was no such Dora."
He started breathing heavily, the girls next to him holding him from an inexistent fall. Everyone else looked at him, either in shock or confusion.
Candace glanced at Agiel and noticed his shady smirk. He clapped lightly and stood up.
"Well, that will be all then, I got what I wanted to know."
The dean flinched and stepped forward.
"What do you mean? Weren’t we supposed to talk about the Twilight of Gods? About our next move? What is all of that about?"
Agiel gave her a teasing glance and walked to the door.
"This doesn’t need my presence, but this Dora will talk, so enjoy it, my dear."
He left the room, causing the frustration of the dean.
After this, the group left a little time for Dora to recover and pursued the long-awaited story of Twilight of Gods.
He explained every unknown part, from the Players to the demise of Peters, Elizabeth, and Midgard.
The room remained silent for a while, every gaze on the floor, but then the terrible sound of footsteps came closer.
"Hope, no!" Candace shouted, but the boy reached the bed, the girls were about to move when Dora’s voice interrupted them.
"Let him do it."
Everyone but Mercy turned to him.
Hope, tears in his eyes, grabbed him by the collar, his fist shaking with rage.
Dora gave him a sad gaze and sighed.
"You know that if you give me one punch, you won’t control your energy and he will take over... Hope, I saw what he can do to people who held a grudge... You got away too many times, and I share his memories... so try to understand this: If he gets out near you..."
"Then do it... let him kill me, let’s finish this once and for all! Why are you always sparing me? I won’t chicken out this time! Just do I!" He trembled in emotion, his tears flowing down.
Dora sighed again and looked away.
"Why? So you could die and run away from what happened to Elizabeth?"
A cold wind crossed the room. Hope’s eyes widened and veins popped out of his neck.
"Take that back... I’m going to kill you..."
Dora with tired eyes, didn’t resist, so only Hope’s grip maintained him.
"Hope... I said that I got more than my memories... so I know more things about what happened..."
"Shut up..."
"Candace tricked Elizabeth to take the train with the others... if you had stayed inside... she wouldn’t have left in time, and she believed that it was the last... so she wouldn’t have tried to break out..."
"I said... SHUT... UP..." Hope’s voice started to crack.
"She got out... because you refused to listen... because you were too selfish... but Hope... when you heard the noise from the Rift... the noise that resonated all across the town... the noise that made you realize how stupid your actions were... You...."
"I SAID SHUT UUUUP!!!!!"
Hope shouted and raised his fist, but Iris and Mercy grabbed him just in time.
"I’ll kill you! I’ll Kill you!!! I swear to kill You!!!!" He moved like an animal while Dora fell onto the bed.
"She died... because of you... and you wanted me to kill you... because she cared about me..."
"RAAAAGGHHHHT JUST SHUT UP!!! SHUT YOUR DAMN MOUTH!!!! AAAAH"
Tears flooded from his eyes, but Iris’ grip seemed from another world. To be precise, it was getting stronger.
Hope, through his watered eyes saw everyone’s gaze on him. It wasn’t gaze of anger, nor disappointment, but a stunned incomprehension.
"... How could you? Why?" It was what their eyes conveyed.
He moved like a beast and fell to the ground. Sitting on his bottom, he committed the error of looking above and the dead eyes of everyone finished killing him.
"It’s wrong! It’s not the truth! I... I..."
"Hope." Candace’s voice sounded like a swansong.
Hope stared at her in great fear, but the dean, had her back turned.
"Dora, did Ely say something special? Before dying..."
Hope’s view blurred. After the astonishment, it was the painful feeling of being ignored that struck him.
Dora lowered his head.
"Let’s all meet again... in another world."
