70: Chapter 70 Kill!
Kill!
Kill!
Razidan wanted to persuade him further, but the Altland Hunter had already walked towards a nearby cave.
NPCs don’t waste words with you; they do what they’re told.
Drawing his bow, he shot an arrow into the darkness, not caring if it hit, and then ran away.
A few seconds later, a Naga Skinner charged out.
“Good timing, everyone out of the way, watch me SOLO it!”
The soldiers obediently parted to the sides, and the Altland Hunter, who had drawn the aggro, ran straight behind Mo Fei.
Mo Fei watched the Naga charge at him, swung up his greatsword, and hacked down, but the Naga nimbly sidestepped and thrust its Serpent Bone Spear at Mo Fei.
Thwack, the unarmored body was easily pierced.
-75!
Damn it hurts, Mo Fei hurriedly retracted his sword, but before he could fully recover, the Naga thrust another spear at him.
-98!
Damn, that damage is a bit high.
Without a shield or armor, Mo Fei’s slightly over 1000 health couldn’t withstand many hits.
He didn’t dare hesitate, swiftly swung his greatsword in a sweeping attack.
This time, the Naga had nowhere to dodge.
The door-sized greatsword flung the Naga away -475!
That one blow left the Naga severely injured.
It tried to charge at him again with desperation, but Mo Fei turned around and swung his sword in another sweep, -412 (248 excess damage)!
There was a crack, and the Naga was cleaved in two at the waist.
Looking at the waist of the Naga with a bunch of pixelated blood gushing out, Mo Fei thought to himself that chopping people with this thing really wasn’t ordinarily brutal.
The damage was simply explosive.
He silently calculated,
The Dragon-Slaying Greatsword’s damage of 100-200, factoring in the 55 points of strength enhancement, could deal about 550-1100 damage with a full-force swing, which practically guaranteed a one-hit kill against these Nagas with only five to six hundred health.
The reason he said “practically” is because of the game’s freedom; the same sword swinging at full-power, half-power, or even a light flick would result in completely different damage.
And when sweeping, since the force was dispersed, it wouldn’t be as concentratedly harmful as a heavy chop, so it would take two hits to kill.
But sweeping had a larger attack area, making it safer against mobs.
Heavy chops and the like would be better saved for large creatures.
Mo Fei drank a healing potion and then directed his men to lure over two more Nagas.
This time he started with a sweep, both Nagas were sent flying at once, followed by another reverse sweep, the two Nagas followed in their predecessors’ footsteps.
Just like that, he chopped down seven or eight Nagas, one or two at a time.
He had two close calls during the process, saved by his underlings’ timely support.
Mo Fei gradually got the hang of wielding the greatsword.
Overall, the greatsword was a weapon with both very clear advantages and disadvantages.
Its advantage been summarized in one word: ferocious.
The damage was explosively high, especially with a top-down heavy chop that meant almost certain death if it hit the target.
Sweeps might deal slightly less damage, but their wide range and knockback effect made them very useful against swarms of small foes.
But the shortcomings were also evident: both drawing and sheathing the blade were too slow.
Each swing took about 1.5 seconds to recover, and though 1.5 seconds seemed short, an enemy with enough speed could take the opportunity to close in and attack.
If it were against ordinary monsters, it’d be fine as long as he kept a good rhythm and timing—no matter how many came his way, he would cut them down.
But if the enemy was intelligent or agile, he would probably be outmaneuvered badly.
Furthermore, since he wasn’t wearing armor, his defense was paper-thin—just a few hits would halve his health.
Dealing with mages or archers was tricky too.
Without charge skills, by the time he got up close, he’d have likely taken a couple of rounds of magic or shots, and he felt he’d be kited to death.
The solution was simple, though: get a couple of charge skills.
Mo Fei somewhat regretfully put away the greatsword and put his knight armor back on.
He looked at the Knight Sword in his hand, with an Attack Power of only 5-35, but it was safe.
All in all, to truly master the greatsword required extensive practice, as well as the support of other skills and attributes.
He might need to continue increasing his strength attribute; 55 points of strength was just enough to wield it, but to be able to handle it with ease, Mo Fei estimated that he would need at least 90-100 points of strength.
Endurance needed to be increased too, as the greatsword was very exhausting to use.
If his stamina wasn’t enough, he’d need to recover after just three swings, which was too weak for sustained combat.
Constitution certainly needed a boost as well.
Without a shield and unable to wear heavy armor, if he didn’t increase his health further, he’d indeed be a glass cannon.
The task ahead seemed arduous; even with five times the attribute growth, it felt entirely insufficient.
Afterwards, Mo Fei spent another two hours chopping Nagas, meanwhile getting accustomed to the Dragon-Slaying Greatsword’s style.
He didn’t dare to be reckless facing numerous monsters.
Although he really wanted to try charging into a hoard and swinging the greatsword wildly, without survival skills, if things went south he might just up and die.
However, he was slowly increasing the number of enemies he faced at once; from one or two at the start, to three or four later on, and at most, five Nagas at once (of course, with support on both sides).
Unlike the stable method of sword and shield, playing the greatsword style was about relentless assault, risking life for life, needing to have a reckless drive while also maintaining calm, accurately calculating the timing of each swing,
As long as the greatsword hit its mark, even if it didn’t secure a kill, the sheer impact was enough to send enemies flying, knocking them down, or sweeping them off their feet.
The tension of being potentially surrounded and killed by multiple enemies at any time alternated with the exhilarating feeling of cleaving, bisecting, and smashing them into a mush made for an absolutely dominant battle style that was both exciting and efficient.
After a wild spree of chopping, what was left were carcasses everywhere; such is the romance of a greatsword-wielding hunk!
However, the stamina consumption was indeed quite high.
At present, he could swing his sword a maximum of three times in succession.
If there were any enemies left standing after the three swings, he would have to rely on his minions to finish them off.
Mo Fei stowed his greatsword back into the bag and switched to his Knight’s armor.
It was getting dark, and it wouldn’t do well to be seen in such attire.
The next morning when he logged into the game, Mo Fei planned to continue leveling up, putting a few more points into stamina.
However, to his surprise, the blizzard had stopped.
The storm at the peak was still raging, and the sky remained overcast, but other than that, there wasn’t a single snowflake in the sky.
Seeing Mo Fei emerging from his tent, Muradin Bronzebeard greeted him enthusiastically from a short distance away.
Today, Muradin had changed out of his explorer’s clothes and into a shining silver suit of heavy armor that covered him from head to toe, making him look like a humanoid tank, with a battle axe and a war hammer at his waist, and a spare two-handed battle axe on his back.
It was clear he was ready for a fight, and even his title had changed.
Muradin Bronzebeard (King of the Hill): “Ah, Prince Aidan, you haven’t left yet.
Perfect timing—I’ve decided to go and thoroughly investigate those ruins today.
How about it, do you have the guts to join me?”
Mo Fei also changed his title to a battle vocation.
Aidan Pirinold (Northwind Knight): “Of course, I’ve been dying to.”
“Hahaha, that’s the spirit.”
Haomiao Ruyan also crawled out of his tent, stretching his limbs longingly, and was pleasantly surprised to see the snow had stopped.
The Dwarf explorer team was quickly assembled: twelve Dwarf musketeers, eight Dwarf diggers, and the two explorers, Muradin Bronzebeard and Haomiao Ruyan, leading the team.
On Mo Fei’s side, he had also assembled his troops.
Together, the two parties, totaling nearly forty people, made their way towards the ancient ruins.
Soon the team arrived at the area infested with Naga.
Mo Fei was still contemplating how to arrange the plan when Muradin took the lead, heading towards the snowfield laden with countless caves.
In the middle of a clearing, he suddenly raised his hammer.
Thunder Strike!
Boom, the ground instantly shattered, snow crusts were smashed, and dark caverns were exposed.
The Naga, disturbed by the noise, surged out in droves, a massive, dark mass of them.
Mo Fei was taken aback, not expecting the Dwarf to use such a brute-force approach.
He was still considering how to command the battle—
Dwarf Toss!
Muradin leaped into the air, a great jump landing him in the midst of the Naga, trampling two underfoot.
“Back off, you damned beasts!”
Heroic Strike!
With one swing of the hammer, the Naga were flattened into pancakes.
“Let me show you the might of the Dwarves.”
Thunder Strike!
Boom, lightning splintered in all directions, the ground cracking open with rifts.
“Eat my hammer!”
Savage Strike!
Bang, a Naga was smashed and sent flying, scattering the others like bowling pins, rolling all over the place.
“Hahaha, just like that!” Muradin laughed heartily, wielding his war hammer and battle axe, furiously hacking at the Naga.
He was clad in a suit of heavy Thorium armor.
The Naga’s weapons clanged impotently against it, showing “immune,” “immune,” “not penetrated,” “not penetrated.”
After slaughtering dozens in one go, the remaining Naga shouted and scattered in all directions.
“Hahaha, that’s the way!
Hey, what are you standing around for, follow me and charge in!”
Mo Fei watched with a mix of speechlessness and joy, having a strong ally was indeed gratifying.
It was no wonder, being a Gold-ranked hero, that slaughtering these minor creatures was as easy as chopping chickens.
The group marched directly towards the entrance of the ruins.
The Naga occasionally popped their heads out from the surrounding caves, but were immediately met with volleys of fire from the Dwarf musketeers and Kingdom crossbowmen.
Muradin charged ahead, scattering any Naga daring enough to gather in groups, slaying his way through the entire Naga lair, all the way to the entrance of the ruins.
“These Naga are endless, but if we take down their leader, we can definitely scare the rest into hiding.
My instincts tell me their boss is definitely in that ruined structure ahead.
What do you say, folks?
Let’s charge in.”

A plot event!
It seems there was indeed danger ahead.
Mo Fei’s heart tightened as Muradin Bronzebeard had already charged in.
