Part-time Boss
Chapter 71 - 71 71 Archaeological Ruins

71: Chapter 71: Archaeological Ruins 71: Chapter 71: Archaeological Ruins Damn, this Muradin is way too impulsive.

Mo Fei criticized inwardly as he watched the old fellow who usually hid in the camp, drinking and boasting all day without moving an inch from his seat.

Yet, the moment a fight broke out, he charged faster than anyone else.

Although he hesitated for a moment, Mo Fei didn’t stop.

What about the plot events?

If the sky falls, there are tall ones to hold it up…

that saying seems a bit off, but the principle is the same.

With the King of the Hill there, what else is there to worry about?

Just follow and ride the wave for Plot Points.

With that thought in mind, he charged in after him.

The scale of the relic was quite large; it was just covered by snow from the outside and didn’t look very eye-catching, but once inside, the complex and massive interior space made Mo Fei very cautious.

He followed the sounds of battle echoing from the corridor ahead.

As he moved forward, he occasionally saw the bodies of snake people smashed by hammers or chopped down by axes.

While looting the bodies, he took the opportunity to check the monsters’ levels.

The snake people living here were clearly elite, with many being above level 40.

When Mo Fei and his soldiers rushed into a large hall inside the relic, they saw about a dozen snake people fighting Muradin.

Muradin had already put away his one-handed battle axe and hammer, and had taken down the two-handed battle axe from behind.

Whirlwind Slash!

His one-meter-twenty physique spun like a top in the hall, limbs flew everywhere, and corpses lay scattered across the floor.

Muradin Bronzebeard (King of the Hill): “Hahahaha, see that?

That’s the might of a dwarf—For Khaz Modan!”

Mo Fei didn’t hesitate and immediately ordered his soldiers to set up a defensive line by the door, using heavy crossbows and hand cannons to pick off the scattered snake people.

Even though the snake people were being suppressed by Muradin, there were many of them and the situation didn’t seem too bad; they had no intention of retreating anytime soon.

It was especially true when a group of snake people, led by a group of phosphor Magicians, escorted a snake elder Priest out, causing an excited hissing noise to erupt around them.

Mo Fei started to feel nervous, but after a closer look he realized the snake elder Priest was just a Monster Leader, and he immediately relaxed.

Between elites and BOSSes, there is a special kind of leader template that is strictly speaking still an elite, but in certain situations—like this plot event right now where there is no BOSS to own the stage, the System will turn the strongest unit among a group of monsters into a leader, giving it a certain boost in health limit, but in essence, it’s still just an elite monster.

It seemed the main character still hadn’t made their entrance.

Mo Fei thought this as he began directing the soldiers to exchange fire with the snake people’s phosphor Magicians.

For a moment, crossbow bolts and bullets flew, fireballs and venom danced wildly.

Mo Fei also raised his shield, protecting himself and incidentally the rear ranks as well.

The fierce firefight lasted only a few minutes before the snake-person magicians were mostly shot down by the Expedition Army, which held the advantage in numbers.

Even the snake-person elder was killed by stray bullets.

Muradin single-handedly shattered the formation of the snake-person warriors, and as the last few survivors fled in disarray, the battle came to an end.

The team of Adventurers also suffered certain losses.

The phosphorus fireballs of the snake-person magicians were quite powerful; four Dwarf riflemen and three Kingdom crossbowmen were killed, and that sole surviving Hunter from Altland was also dead.

His Hunting Dog cried out woefully twice before being lured away with a piece of wild boar jerky by Hao Miao Ru Yan.

Muradin thoroughly enjoyed himself, “Hahaha, Prince Aidan, did you see my valiant figure just now?

Well, you fought quite well too.

Perhaps we can have a sparring session sometime.

But for now, let’s thoroughly inspect these ruins—there must be plenty of treasures for us to excavate—lads, perk up, time to get to work.”

The Dwarf diggers who could only spectate before could finally come in handy, each grabbing a pickaxe and pulling out explosives, ready to start ‘archaeology,’ the Dwarf way of doing things.

It was very simple and straightforward: smash any door you encounter, dig through any wall you find, and if something can’t be knocked open, use explosives.

The main thing was to secure the treasures first and foremost.

Hao Miao Ru Yan shook her head as she watched this bunch.

She belonged to the genuine school of Explorers, not only rich in exploration experience, adept at climbing mountains and entering tombs, but also possessing a wealth of theoretical knowledge.

She immediately picked up a notebook and magnifying glass and began examining the murals around the hall.

For a time, the Adventurers were all busily engaged, inadvertently sidelining Mo Fei.

Mo Fei was somewhat speechless, thinking to himself that these people really had some nerve.

He did not believe that things had come to an end—after all, the System had not prompted that the plot event was over yet.

Generally, such plot events would definitely have a big monster or some kind of plot twist, an important revelation, or a discovery.

That snake-person priest elder didn’t even have a line to say, clearly not a serious plot character, most likely just a warm-up act.

The event was named the “Sky Piercing Peak Relic Excavation Event,” and since it mentioned excavation, the real key was probably down below.

He asked the Dwarves for some explosives and then took his soldiers to search the corridors around.

Clearly, these ruins weren’t built by snake-people, but considering how they defended the place, it seemed something very important was buried here.

In the dilapidated corridors of the ruins, it was common to see holes the snake-people had dug, but Mo Fei did not dare to rashly tunnel in to investigate since most of these tunnels were too narrow for anyone but snake-people to pass through.

He simply threw a Dwarf explosive into each corridor, deciding to collapse them instead.

After searching through several tunnels, no hidden rooms or secret passageways were found.

The end of the tunnels was either blocked or had already collapsed, making them impassable.

After circling around for a while, they ended up back in the hall.

By then, the Dwarves had dug up quite a few good things from the rooms around the hall, amassing a large number of ‘ancient artifacts’—some gold and silver items inlaid with gems, oddly shaped sculptures and handicrafts, and they even found some gold, silver, and copper coins, as well as some rusty weapons and armor, apparently left by Adventurers who had visited in the past.

Soon, the ‘ancient artifacts’ piled up in the hall, but Muradin was clearly not satisfied; dealing with this junk was harder than mining in the mountains.

Dwarves never lacked gold and silver.

He was more hopeful of finding some mysterious items left from ancient times, ancient records, or divine artifacts of yore.

“I think I may have found something,” announced Hao Miao Ru Yan suddenly.
