Chapter 96: Chapter 96: Falling

"I don’t need you to believe me," I retorted in my icy voice as I kept my gaze steady and did not budge from where I was standing.

She let out a loud scoff, and I could almost feel her spit land on my face.

"Oh come on, Aurelia," She sneered with a disdainful scorn. "You are hiding something from me, aren’t you? I know you are planning something," she spat, each word that left her lips was laced with venom.

She continued, leaning back with her arms crossed over her chest this time. "I mean..." she drawled, her voice trailing off. "Why else would you be here? I know you hate to see Blake and I together. And I also know for a fact that you must have so much hatred in you, you must have hated him and you wanted revenge, right? Especially after seeing him bring me home on your second wedding anniversary."

She laughed as I continued to stare at her with a fiery blaze in my eyes and my fists clenched tightly beside me, even more determined and certain about my plan now.

"But guess what, Aurelia?" She taunted as a smirk played on her lips. "I never had a date that night and no one ditched me. I knew it was the night of your wedding anniversary and I faked everything. I wanted him by my side and he came just as I had expected. How does it feel to have your husband put another woman’s feelings above your own? He was more concerned that I was upset about my date ditching me than about your feelings," she mocked as the smirk that was etched onto her lips grew wider.

A low chuckle left my parted lips. "I knew it. There is always something happening to you whenever we are celebrating an occasion. Be it anniversaries, birthdays or Christmas. But I got to give it to you though. You were getting real creative with all your reasons and excuses. One day your knee hurts because you fell down, another time you said you were afraid of the rain and thunder. It was laughable, to be honest," I said and I couldn’t hold back the snicker that escaped my lips as the memories rushed back into my mind.

Stella only looked at me with wide eyes, anger starting to pump through the veins inside of her body as her sharp features hardened in an instant. "You –"

The word barely left the tip of her tongue when I cut in, interrupting her before she could finish her sentence. "You know, I am curious..." I mused, amusement dancing in my dark eyes and I stepped forward this time, forcing her to step back. "How does it feel to be living in constant fear that Blake might cheat on you with another woman?" I taunted as a smirk tugged at the corners of my lips.

She opened her mouth wanting to say something but there was a lump in her throat, and she couldn’t get the words out.

I continued. "I mean, if he could cheat on me to get with you, what makes you think that he wouldn’t do the same to you?" I questioned with a raised brow.

I watched as anger flashed past her dark eyes within the next second and rage spread within her like a wildfire. "Blake wouldn’t do that to me! I’m different!" She yelled in her shrill voice that pierced through the tension that was brewing in the air. Impulse soon clouded her judgement and before the next thing I knew, she raised both her hands and pushed me to the ground.

Her sudden movement came as a shock to me and surprise crossed my face. She shoved me so hard that I found myself stumbling backwards, hitting my back at the edge of the sink before falling down onto the ground.

A loud yelp escaped my lips and pain shot through my body. Naturally, my hand flew to my stomach and I pressed onto it as I grimaced in pain. "Ahh... it hurts... my baby..." I muttered under my breath, my voice weak and it was barely above a whisper. There was an intense pain in my lower abdomen, a sharp pain, like it was a knife stabbing me. "Please..."

Hearing the words leave my lips and seeing my pained expression, she immediately became flustered. She sucked in a deep breath and panic engulfed her in the next second when realisation finally dawned upon her as she realised what she had just done.

I knew Stella’s heart must have skipped a beat when she saw someone walking into the washroom at that exact moment. The woman’s gaze glanced down to see me sitting on the ground, she came rushing to my side with a concerned expression that masked her features. "What’s going on? What happened?"

Seeing this, Stella immediately sprung to my side, to grab me by my arm, also trying to help me up. Her brows were knitted together in a concerned expression as worry swirled in the depths of her dark eyes. "I don’t... know..." she stammered, horror evident in her wide eyes. "I think the floor was wet and she must have slipped and fallen down by accident," she claimed, feigning innocence.

Of course, she wasn’t going to admit that she was the one who pushed me, after all I was obviously pregnant. But I wasn’t going to let her off the hook.

"You..." I mumbled under my breath softly, that was all I could muster. I could feel myself getting dizzier as the seconds tick by and even my vision was slowly blurring. I lifted my hand, jutting out my finger to point directly at Stella. "She was the one..."

I could barely get the words out and my arm fell back down to my side. Another sharp pain stung me and the next thing I knew was that I saw a group of people rushing into the washroom frantically.

"Oh my god, she’s bleeding!" A voice sliced through the air, every other sound was muffled and blended together in the chaos.

From a distance, I locked eyes with Xavier for a moment, he was running towards me. The last thing I knew was that he had picked me up, carrying me in his arms. I was struggling to keep my eyelids open and my eyes fluttered shut in the next second.

I heard Xavier’s faint voice before everything went silent.

"Aurelia!"

"You pushed her, didn’t you?" I could hear Xavier’s deep voice reach my ears, his tone laced with malice and dripping with accusation.

"Don’t accuse Stella of something like this, you have no proof," Blake’s voice echoed in the place.

"The floor was wet and she slipped," Stella said softly, feigning innocence.

"Oh, really?" Xavier questioned this time. "You were the only one in there and she happened to slip and fall. How coincidental is that?" He spat the words out like they were poison in his mouth.

Their voices continued to fill the air. It was at this moment when my eyes fluttered open and the bright white light invaded my eyes in an instant. I squinted naturally, before my eyes finally adjusted to the sudden brightness. I slowly turned my head to the side, my eyes swept across the room.

Blake was standing next to Stella with his arm slung around her shoulders in a protective manner as she cowered into his embrace, Then, my eyes and landed on Xavier. I could see the way his eyes were burning with a fiery blaze and his fists were clenched tightly beside him, anger coursing through his body at this moment.

"Xavier..." His name left my lips in a soft and weak voice as I coughed, my throat felt especially dry. "What happened? Am I in the hospital?" I asked, my eyes darting around to scan the room.

My voice must have gotten their attention as all of them whipped their heads around in an instant and all three pairs of eyes were staring directly at me. I locked eyes with Xavier this time and watched as his dark eyes lit up and his gaze softened.

"Aurelia! You are awake," he muttered to himself. He rushed over to my side in the next second and leaned over to watch me with concern and worry evident in his dark eyes. "How are you feeling? You fainted earlier," he informed.

As soon as the words left his lips, the memories from earlier all came rushing back into my mind like a tidal wave crashing onto the shore. It all made sense now. Stella pushed me.

A soft gasp escaped my parted lips. My hand caressed my tummy as my eyes glanced down. An overwhelming feeling of emptiness engulfed me and panic began to settle in. "My baby..." My voice trailed off, starting off soft. Then anxiety and fear began to get to me. I sat up abruptly despite the pain and I reached out to grab onto Xavier’s arm, looking up at him with wide eyes. "Where’s my baby? Is my baby okay?!" I asked, my eyes shifting around anxiously as I waited for a reply.

I saw the way his face fell and the silence that followed made my heart sink. He didn’t need to utter a single word and I knew the answer.

I let out a breath, my voice came out shaky as hot tears stung my eyes.

"I lost him... didn’t I?"
