Chapter 171: You came
Chapter 171: Chapter 171: You came
Third Person POV
Evelyn’s blood chilled in her veins as her heart drummed against her chest loudly, threatening to burst out at any second now. She was staring ahead with a blank expression that masked her features as her mind struggled to register the situation.
"What’s... going on?" She stammered, muttering under her breath in a soft voice as her eyes darted around anxiously. "Why are the police here? Why are they looking for me?"
Slowly, Natalie turned her head around and her eyes landed on Evelyn’s dark green eyes that were filled with worry and panic.
"You were involved in a hit and run?" She asked, her voice came out shaky as she echoed the words of the officer and stared at her with disbelief written all over her face.
Evelyn’s eyes went wide this time when it finally clicked inside her head and the blurry memory of her zooming down the street popped into her head. "No!" She burst out yelling, her voice cracking. "I wasn’t! I didn’t do anything, I’m innocent!" She lied without even batting an eye as she proclaimed her innocence.
Natalie let out a breath she didn’t even know she was holding as she kept her gaze steady. "Then why did the police show up at our door demanding for you?" She questioned with a raised brow as emotions were running wild in the depths of her eyes. There was a brief pause as silence lapsed among them. "Tell me the truth, Evelyn..." Her voice trailed off but she never once tore her eyes away from Evelyn.
She then let the next few words roll off the tip of her tongue, her words were laced with a hint of doubt. "Were you or were you not involved in a hit and run accident?"
She watched as Evelyn gulped inaudibly, hesitating as she contemplated her next words. "I wasn’t," she finally said.
As soon as those words left her lips, the sound of the bell ringing echoed through the entire place once again, snapping them right back to reality, startling Evelyn who jumped a little.
"Hello Ma’am, we need your help to cooperate with us."
Natalie calmly pressed the button once again as she spoke through the speaker. "Yes, of course, officers."
The machines whirred and churned as the gates slowly drew open, letting the officers come through the gate. Before they knew it, there was a knock on the door. She immediately walked over to push the door open and greeted the officers standing before her.
The corners of her lips curved upwards into a slight smile despite her racing heart. "Hi, good evening officers," she greeted them once again.
"Good evening, Ma’am," the man responded with a serious look plastered across his face. Almost immediately, his eyes flickered over to the side to glance at Evelyn who had turned around and was about to walk away. "Ma’am," the officer called out to her but his words only fell on deaf ears as she continued walking away in a hurry, ignoring the officer’s words.
"Ma’am!" The officer’s voice boomed loudly this time and Evelyn froze in her spot as she remained rooted to the ground. "Turn around," the officer demanded.
She slowly turned around to face the officers as she raised both her arms up as though to surrender.
"Are you Evelyn Lloyd?"
She nodded as fear was evident on her face as the atmosphere quickly became more tense than usual.
Without a single warning, Natalie watched with shock in her eyes as the officer marched over towards Evelyn and cuffed her hands behind her back in one swift motion. She didn’t protest or make a sound this time, instead, she quietly let the officer arrest her as her eyes stared ahead with a look of defeat and helplessness. She knew now that there was nothing she could do.
"Evelyn Lloyd, you are under arrest for the involvement in a hit and run accident," the officer announced. "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have a right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you..."
It was at the moment when she was being dragged out of the house by the officers when James drove past in the car and yelled for the driver to stop when he realised what was going on. He didn’t waste any time as he pushed open the car door and ran towards Evelyn in a hurry, closing the distance between them in a few large steps.
Evelyn’s eyes lit up with a glimmer of hope as soon as her gaze fell on her father. "Daddy!" She shouted for him, her voice dripping with desperation as she pleaded with a pitiful look etched onto her face. "You need to help me!"
His eyes were wide with concern and worry as he looked between his wife and daughter. "What is going on here?" He asked with a puzzled expression as a frown found its way between his brows. He turned to the officers. "Why are you arresting my daughter? She didn’t do anything wrong! Let her go right now!" He demanded through gritted teeth as he clenched his jaws tightly.
"Sir, your daughter is under arrest for a hit and run accident, she will be charged with attempted murder. We cannot release her."
James tried to reach out to grab her arm but was only pushed away by the officers. Tears filled the brim of her eyes, glistening under the street lamps that lined the streets as she looked into his eyes, begging for him to save her.
"Dad!" She screamed again as tears started streaming down her red cheeks.
"Don’t worry, Eve. We will hire the best lawyers for you!" He shouted and watched helplessly as the officer guided her into the back of the police car and drove down the street.

First Person POV
"You came," the words left his lips with a hint of delight and surprise as his dark brown eyes lit up the moment they landed on mine.
I let a smile grace my lips as the door closed behind me, and it was just the two of us in the ward now.
"Of course, I did..." I began as I walked over towards him, closing the gap between us and stopping right by the edge of the bed he was lying in. There was a slight pause as silence stretched between us for a while before I let my voice pierce through the air. "I promised you that I would come back to you."
I reached down and took his hands in mine as our fingers interlocked.
He rubbed his thumb gently over the hand, the warmth of his finger seeping into my skin. "Aurelia..." My name left his lips in a soft murmur.
"Hmm?"
His eyes captured mine as we locked eyes. "I’m sorry for what I said that day. It was never my intention to hurt you, but I did. I promise to never hurt you again and if I do, I will give you the permission to do whatever you want."
"No, I’m sorry too. I should have tried to listen and hear you out. I didn’t give you the chance to explain. I couldn’t bear to leave you alone like this after your accident." A sour feeling shot right up my nose as hot tears stung my eyes. "I don’t care if you don’t need me, I need to know that you are okay and I want to be by your side. I spent every second away from you, thinking about you. Thinking if you are okay, whether or not you are in pain."
He reached up to wipe the tears off my face gently and carefully as his eyes met mine.
"You are wrong, Aurelia," he pointed out. "It was my ego that got in the way. I didn’t want you to see me in that state so I told you to leave, but I was foolish. I do need you, I want you to be by my side so badly."
"Xavier..."
"Every time that door swings open, I immediately begin praying and hoping that it was you who would walk through that very door. Finally my wish was granted and the woman I love with all of my heart and soul is in my arms right now. Despite the pain that is pulsing through my body right now, I am the happiest I have ever been and you are all I ever need and want."
A low chuckle escaped from my parted lips as I gazed into his dark brown eyes that were running wild with emotions.
"I love you, Aurelia Wilder. I love you more than anything in this world."
The smile that was etched onto my face widened this time.
"And I love you, Xavier Wilder."
Grabbing my cheeks in his hands, I watched as his gaze flickered down to glance at my lips momentarily. It didn’t take long as within the next second, he was pulling me towards him and our lips collided as he pressed a searing kiss onto my lips.
