Chapter 144: Chapter 144: I am the sponsor
I remained unfazed by the sharpness in her tone and the malice swirling in the depths of her dark eyes. Instead, the corners of my lips twisted upwards in a smirk as my eyes danced with amusement, amused by her overflowing arrogance. I kept my gaze steady, never once tearing my eyes off her face as I spoke.
Raising a brow at her, I questioned her.
"What makes you think so? How sure are you? Haven’t you heard that –"
She cut me off rudely before I could even finish my sentence. She rolled her eyes dramatically as she clicked her tongue with an annoyed expression that was stretched across her face.
"Stop. I don’t care," she spat the words out like they were poison in her mouth. "I know what you are trying to do. I bet you came all the way down here to try and expose us, right?" She asked, the words that left her lips were dripping with accusation as she glared at me and her eyes were narrowed into thin slits.
A cold chuckle emerged from my throat this time. "Expose you? What are you talking about?"
She shoved me at my shoulder roughly with one hand.
"Don’t play dumb with me. I know exactly what you are doing," she sneered with a disdainful scorn but I didn’t budge, not even moving a single inch as I straightened my back and stared right into her eyes. "You must have heard about Blake making me the star of the new movie he is directing and you are trying to ruin things for us because you can’t stand to see your ex-husband and the woman he chose succeed. But I’m warning you, you better not tell anyone about my relationship with Blake," she warned through gritted teeth as her face darkened visibly.
There was a brief moment of pause as silence enveloped us both for a while before she continued.
"You can’t hide things from me. I know you way too well, Aurelia," she hissed as her eyes gleamed with a knowing look. Smugness was radiating from every inch of her skin as she took a step closer towards me, closing the gap between us. "I can see it written all over your face."
The smirk etched onto my face only widened within the next second as my eyes held hers captive.
"You know me too well?" I repeated, tossing the words right back at her with an incredulous look plastered across my face. "Are you sure about that?" I questioned pointedly, my tone carrying a sharp edge to it.
But before she could utter another word, I answered on her behalf. "Obviously you don’t. Because I’m helping you keep this secret. Don’t worry," I taunted.
Her eyes widened slightly, a mixture of surprise and doubt was swimming in her dark brown eyes. She was rendered speechless as she looked at me as if she wanted to say something but nothing came out of her mouth.
Instead, I placed my hand on her shoulder and our gazes matched as the air continued to crackle with unspoken tension.
"Why would I want to ruin things for you? I know how tough this industry is. I just want to see the two of you succeed," I commented as I let a smile fall on my lips.
She laughed, the cackle slipping through the gaps between her fingers, disbelief was written all over her face as she looked at me as though I had lost my mind.
"You?" She mocked as she pushed my arm off her shoulder within the next second. "What do you know about the acting industry? And since when have you become so nice? Why would you help us keep the secret? What’s in it for you?" She asked, the sharpness in her tone piercing through the tension that was lingering in the air between us, her voice laced with suspicion as she glared at me.
"Why not? If I were to expose you two now, that would be way too easy, and that is no fun," I remarked casually as a smirk tugged at the corners of my lips, my voice heavy with a threat.
I watched as anger flashed past her eyes for a fleeting moment and she clenched her jaws tightly, gritting her teeth. "What did you just say? Was that a threat?"
I only smiled at her. "No it isn’t. Take it as advice. Perhaps you should be more careful about what you do and prepare for the worst to come one day."
Her eyes widened with anger once again, rage spreading within her like a wildfire she couldn’t seem to control. "You! You can’t threaten me like this!" She shrieked, as her cheeks were now turned red.
"Well, I just did."
I turned around to leave when she grabbed me by my wrist and pulled me back. She was glaring at me, her breath was heavy as her heart pounded loudly inside her chest. I quickly yanked my wrist out of her tight grip.
"What do you want this time?"
"I’m not letting you leave here until you promise me you won’t tell anyone about Blake and I."
A soft chuckle escaped from my parted lips as I looked at her with disbelief written all over my face. I arched my brow at her. "I didn’t know my promise meant something to you," I commented, my voice dripping with sarcasm and malice. "But anyway, don’t worry. I promise I won’t tell anyone," I assured and she looked at me with wide eyes, doubt gleaming in her eyes as her mind buzzed with thoughts.
But before she could say anything, I continued.
"Afterall..." I drawled, my voice trailing off as an amused smirk tugged at the corners of my lips. The smirk that was etched onto my face widened this time as I savoured every syllable of the words that left my lips. "I’m the one funding this movie, I can’t be wishing for it to be a failure before it even starts right?"
