Chapter 124: Chapter 124: It was an accident
My eyes widened in shock and I jumped from the sudden loud sound that reached my ears and reverberated in the office lobby. A loud gasp erupted from the crowd as they turned around to look while I froze in my spot for a moment, not daring to turn my head around.
It felt like an eternity before I finally whipped my head around to see a huge crowd already forming right outside the office building doors as whispers and murmurs filled the air. I had this bad feeling that was looming above me and curiosity burned in my dark brown eyes. I found myself letting go of Xavier’s hand as I slowly walked over, my eyes were darting around, searching for some sense of clarity.
As I got closer, I could recognise that familiar back view. It was Stella who was standing by the side of the street looking down onto the ground with a horrified look plastered across her face as she was frozen in shock.
I let my gaze flicker down and my eyes landed on a horrifying scene, one that I never thought I would have seen in this lifetime.
This time I couldn’t stop the gasp that escaped from my parted lips as my hands naturally flew up to cover my mouth when I realised I was staring at Blake who was laying on the ground in his own pool of bright red blood, oozing out from the side of his head. I thought I did not care about him at all but for some reason, I couldn’t move an inch and I felt my heart sink to the pit of my stomach for a second.
I watched as Stella collapsed to her knees within the next second. Panic washed over her, a fearful and worried look was plastered across her face as she tugged at his seemingly lifeless body, begging for him to wake up while his eyes remained shut the entire time. She was screaming and shouting, tears were streaming down her face as she cried and wailed.
"Blake! Wake up! Wake up!" She pleaded, desperation evident in her high-pitched voice as she continued to shake him vigorously. She lifted her head and looked up at the crowd that had surrounded them. "Somebody call the ambulance! You need to help him! Call the ambulance now!" She demanded with wide red eyes.
As someone picked up the phone to call the ambulance, Stella noticed me standing among the crowd as we locked eyes. Almost immediately, a frown crept onto her face and her dark eyes were narrowed into thin slits as she glared at me with a fiery blaze burning in the depths of her eyes.
"You!" She snarled with a disdainful scorn as she stood up and left his side, marching over towards me. "This is all your fault!" She screamed, the words that left her lips were dripping with accusation.
She pushed past the crowd and closed the distance between us in a few large strides. She was now standing right in front of me, our faces dangerously close, anger evident on her face.
"If it wasn’t for you, he wouldn’t have gotten into a car accident!" She yelled, blaming me as her tone carried a sharp edge to it. "You caused all of these!"
"Move back," Xavier demanded through gritted teeth as he clenched his jaw tightly.
"Why should I?" She retorted, her eyes gleaming with defiance. "This is all her fault!"
I let out a loud scoff as I kept my gaze steady. "How exactly is this my fault?" I questioned with a raised brow as an incredulous look was etched onto my face.
A cold chuckle left her parted lips this time.
"How is this your fault?" She repeated, tossing my words right back at me as her lips curved upwards into a bitter smile. "If you hadn’t heartlessly thrown him out of the office, then this wouldn’t have happened!" she proclaimed and I couldn’t hold back the snicker that erupted from my throat.
"What’s so funny?" She hissed, her eyes filled with disdain and contempt.
Our gazes matched as I looked at her with a cold expression etched onto my face.
"Have you ever thought that this is all your fault?" I fought back as my voice remained unwavering and I never once broke eye contact. "Maybe if you hadn’t cheated on him with another married man then this wouldn’t have happened," I spat the words out like they were poison in my mouth.
As soon as the words rolled off the tip of my tongue, I watched as her eyes widened with anger and her cheeks turned red in a split second. "You –! I didn’t cheat on him!" She insisted, continuing to deny just like earlier, her voice trembling from the anger that was spreading within her like a wildfire she couldn’t control. "Stop making things up! You are just trying to ruin –"
I interrupted, cutting her off before she could finish her sentence, leaving her angrier than before.
"Grow up, Stella Brooks," I sneered as I glared at her with an intense look in my eyes. I turned my head over to the side to look at Blake, jutting out my finger as I pointed at him. "Blake is injured and dying and here you are fighting with me because you think this is somehow my fault. Why don’t you actually stay by his side? It might be your last chance," I said crudely.
She let out a breath. "I didn’t know you were so heartless. After all, he was still once your husband, how could you say such a thing?!" She shrieked.
"He was... but now he’s not," I said as I remained unmoving.
"I know you hate him for getting together with me but that doesn’t mean that you can curse him and wish him death!" She screamed this time and without a single warning, she reached up and tried to push me but I didn’t budge, not moving a single inch.
Before she could even react, I immediately reached out to shove at her, causing her to lose her balance. A surprised yelp emerged from her lips and her eyes widened in shock as she stumbled a couple of steps and fell onto the ground. She looked back up to meet my eyes, anger clearly swimming in her dark eyes.
I could hear the sirens blaring from a distance as the ambulance sped down the street and approached us.
"You are right, I do hate him," I admitted without hesitation, my features masked with an expression of certainty. "But I am just telling the truth. If you truly care about him, then maybe you should actually be by his side instead of arguing with me. Right?"

Third Person POV
Blake’s parents came rushing down the hospital corridor with flustered looks plastered across their faces. Their eyes swept across the area when Laura noticed a familiar figure sitting on one of those cold hard plastic benches that lined the busy corridors.
It was Stella who was sitting there. She had her face buried in her hands, looking as though she was crying the entire time. Laura immediately gravitated towards her and started demanding for answers, clearly worried and concerned.
"Stella, what happened? How did Blake get into an accident? Is my son going to be okay? Was it serious?" She asked, hurling questions after questions at her.
"Yeah, tell us, what happened?" Blake’s father, Mark, also questioned with a frown resting between his brows, his voice laced his concern and worry despite the stoic look on his face.
Stella lifted her head from her hands, her eyes still glistening with tears and she reached up to wipe the tears off her face but a pitiful look remained on her face as they locked eyes. She drew in a shaky breath. "I... I..." she stuttered as though she was struggling to find the right words to say. "He’s in the operating theatre now. It’s been over 30 minutes now."
As soon as she heard the word that left Stella’s lips, Laura’s knees gave way as she almost fell but Mark caught her in an instant. "Oh my..." she muttered under her breath, her voice barely above a whisper. "How did it..." her voice trailed off.
"It’s ... it’s..." Stella pretended to stammer, like there was a lump stuck in her throat. She exhaled deeply and averted her eyes as she lowered her head and looked down at her wringing hands. "I don’t know if I should say this..." She muttered under her breath, acting as though she was in a dilemma when really, that was far from the truth, she knew exactly what she was going to say.
Laura reached forward to grab onto her shoulders. "Just say it! I need to know. Who did it? What happened?"
There was a brief pause as silence stretched between them before Stella finally said the words that had been on the tip of her tongue the whole time. She looked up to meet Laura’s intense gaze.
"...It’s all because of Aurelia."
