Chapter 110: Chapter 110: I’m here to see you

"Oh gosh, what do I do? Do I answer his call? What if he finds out about us and our plan?" She questioned, her voice laced with fear and concern as a flustered expression masked her features.

"Don’t worry, just answer it. Stay calm, okay?" I reassured her, nodding my head. "Stay calm."

She nodded. Her fingers hovered over the button for a while as she hesitated before she finally answered the phone. "Hello," she greeted.

"What took you so long to answer my call?!" I could hear his loud voice booming through the phone, the words that left his lips were coated with anger. "Are you cheating on me? Is there another man in the house right now?" He accused this time, his words dripping with accusation.

Her eyes immediately widened to the size of a saucer and she gulped inaudibly, panic written all over her face. "No, no, of course not!" She quickly denied. "I’m always loyal and faithful to you. I was just..." she stammered, not knowing what to say.

"The kids..." I whispered to her.

"I was... just putting the kids... to sleep in their room."

He let out a breath. "Why do you sound so anxious and nervous?" He questioned, his tone carrying a sharp edge to it. "Are you hiding something from me? What are you doing?"

"Answer me!" He yelled through the phone when Serena did not answer immediately, startling her as she jumped.

"I am just resting on the couch right now," she answered this time, trying her best to keep her voice steady despite the tears that were glistening in the brim of her eyes. "Nothing much. How are you doing? How’s your trip so far?" She asked, quickly changing the topic.

"It’s been good. Exhausting but all is good," he answered calmly now. "Anyway, I called to tell you that the trip has been extended by another day. So I won’t be back until next Sunday."

"Yeah, sure. Take care, dear."

The words barely left her lips before he hung up on her without even saying a goodbye.

As soon as she set her phone back down on the couch, the tears started streaming down her cheeks as she couldn’t hold it back any longer. She buried her face in her hands as she cried. I didn’t know her for that long but seeing her like this, I felt my heart ache. I reached out to wrap my arms around her, pulling her into my embrace as I comforted her.

I patted her back soothingly as I murmured next to her ear. "Cry it all out. I’m here with you."

"Aurelia? What are you doing here?"

I locked eyes with Blake who was standing in front of me with a surprised expression that masked his features.

"I came to see you," I said as I let the corners of my lips curve upwards into a slight smile.

His icy blue eyes widened slightly, as though he was taken aback by how nice and gentle I was acting towards him even after what happened between us at the hospital and my son’s funeral that day.

"See me?" He repeated, arching a brow at me. "Why would you be here to see me?"

"Oh, it’s nothing much actually. I mean the other day when you invited me to the studio, I didn’t manage to see you direct your first set. I mean I did end up in the hospital..." I said with a bitter laughter that left my parted lips.

For a fleeting moment, he looked guilty and ashamed. He stepped forward to try and grab onto my arm but I quickly pulled back, recoiling at his touch. "Aurelia, I am –"

I cut him off before he could complete his sentence. My voice remained cold and I kept my gaze steady. "It’s alright. I just would like to see you film and direct."

A puzzled look was etched onto his face in a split second.

"But why?"

"Why not?" I asked with a raised brow, amusement dancing in my dark brown eyes. "I always wanted to know what it would be like. After all, you had been dreaming of this day since you were a kid."

"I...I mean..." he stuttered, struggling to find the right words to say. "If you really want to, I do have a shoot in an hour."

"Sure," I said and silence engulfed us for a while. My eyes darted around, sweeping across the studio before I spoke up once again. "Where’s Stella? I wanted to thank her for the fruit basket she sent. She isn’t here today with you on set?" I asked intentionally with a slight frown resting between my brows.

"She’s on a trip with her friends."

"Right... her friends..." I muttered under my breath, sarcasm laced my voice as a soft chuckle left my lips.

"What was that?"

"Nothing. Is she in Japan?" I questioned casually.

He seemed surprised by my response. "How did you know?"

I let out another chuckle.

"Lucky guess," I quickly said as my eyes glistened with a knowing look and a smirk tugged at the corners of my lips. "Anyway, since you have another hour... Free to grab coffee?"

I found myself in a quiet cafe nearby the studio. I was sitting across the table from Blake, my ex-husband. It was something I have never imagined myself to be doing after a divorce and everything else he put me through, but yet, here I am.

"I just wanted to apologise for what I did and said those times. I was a jerk. I should have never done that," he apologised much to my surprise but I remained nonchalant.

"It’s fine, I don’t blame you," I said, my words were a surprise to him. "The loss of our child must have been hard for you too."

"I...I..." he stuttered before he let out a breath. "Well, yeah."

I took a sip of my iced vanilla latte before carefully setting it back down onto the table between us. "So...How are things between you and Stella?" I asked casually, breaking the silence that settled between us.

His eyes grew wide and he almost spit out the coffee he was drinking. He cleared his throat audibly. "Why would you ask that?"

I leaned back into the chair as I kept my gaze on him, tilting my head slightly to the side.

"Just curious."

He coughed. "I told you many times, Stella and I have nothing going on between us," he insisted, still refusing to admit the truth after all these while.

"Come on, we have been separated for so long, you can tell me," I urged with a smirk on my face that went unnoticed. He remained silent for a while and I could see the gears in his head shifting as he contemplated whether to tell me or not. "Anyway, how long will she be away for?" I asked innocently.

"She will be back next Sunday," he answered and tried my hardest to hold back the snicker that was about to leave my lips. Just as I had expected, she was on a trip with her secret lover. "Why did you ask?"

I leaned forward to get closer to him.

"Do you ever get scared that she might be cheating on you with someone else?"
