Chapter 111: Why should I trust you?
Chapter 111: Chapter 111: Why should I trust you?
He looked at me, anger swirling in the depths of his blue eyes as impulse clouded his judgement. In the next second, he slammed his palm against the table, sending a loud bang across the cafe, eliciting a surprised gasp that rose from the small crowd around us. The customers who were once minding their own business now whipped their heads around, watching us with anticipation and curiosity swimming in their eyes.
"What are you trying to say?" He snarled. "Are you saying that Stella is cheating on me? That she isn’t actually on a trip with her friends?!"
"Woah, calm down," I urged, raising my arms up in mock surrender as a smirk morphed itself onto my lips. "I was just simply asking a question. If you two aren’t dating then you don’t need to worry or overreact, right? Unless..."
A loud scoff escaped his lips. "Fine, I got together with Stella, so what? You and I have long divorced. I know what you are trying to do, Aurelia," he sneered with a disdainful scorn as he glared at me with his eyes narrowed into thin slits. "You are trying to get in between Stella and I," he hissed, his voice dripping with accusation.
I let out a low chuckle as I shook my head lightly. "No need to be so defensive. It’s not like I could do anything to stop you from seeing her. Besides, I wasn’t trying to do anything. I was just genuinely concerned and looking out for you, that’s all. But does she take these trips often?" I questioned once again and I could see the doubt starting to creep onto his face before it was quickly replaced with a frown.
"I don’t need your concern," he spat the words out like they were poison in his mouth. "And not that you needed to know, but she has been sending me pictures of her and her friends at the airport. So no, she is not cheating on me and I am not scared that she would. I trust her."
I let the corners of my lips twitch upwards into a smile, but I could tell that deep down, my words were starting to get to him. "That’s good then."

Third Person POV
The lamps lit up the hotel room in a dim yellow glow, the television was playing an action movie as Stella was lying in bed with someone else’s husband. The man had his arm slung over her shoulders and their eyes were fixated on the television in front of them.
It was at this moment when she noticed the way her phone lit up from the corner of her eyes. Naturally, her gaze flickered down to glance at her phone that was lying on the bed right beside her. She saw a notification pop up on her screen.
It was a text from Aurelia. A frown immediately found its way to rest between her brows, confused as to why she would be texting her. Without moving from her original position, she read the text from a distance.
"Hey Blake, it was nice seeing you again today. I had a good time, we should meet again soon."
The next text came in about a few seconds later. "Oop, sorry, I sent it to the wrong person. Hope you don’t mind."
As soon as her mind registered the words that she was reading and realisation washed over her, her cheeks were flushed red with anger and rage was pulsing through every single vein inside her body. She clenched her fists tightly beside her but quickly took in a deep breath to maintain her calm demeanour despite her racing heart. She knew she needed to stay calm to avoid suspicion.
"Babe, what’s wrong?" The man asked as he turned to face her. He must have noticed her glancing over at her phone and the shift in atmosphere.
She grabbed her phone, holding it tightly in her hand as she let her lips curve upwards into a slight smile. "Don’t worry. It’s nothing, Aaron," she answered quickly. She stood up from the bed this time, putting on her shorts and her shirt before shoving her phone into her pocket. "I’m going to head downstairs to get a drink, do you want one?"
"I will come with you."
"No, it’s fine," she insisted. Then her gaze softened as she spoke in a gentle voice. "I know you are tired, you can rest here. I will get you your drink, I will be back quickly," she reassured with a smile etched onto her face.
"You are always so sweet and understanding. You are truly the best," he complimented with a smile plastered across his face. "All my wife does is care for the kids, she doesn’t even bother with me anymore, it’s almost like I am invisible to her," he muttered under his breath in a bitter tone, the words leaving a sour taste in his mouth as he had simply forgotten everything that his wife did and sacrificed for him.
A soft giggle escaped from her parted lips.
"No, you treat me the best." She leaned in to give him a kiss on his lips before turning around to leave.
"Stay safe!"
Outside the hotel, she found a corner to stand at, away from the crowd and everything else. She quickly got her phone and dialled Aurelia’s number with an angry expression that masked her features as she cussed her mentally.
Despite multiple calls, they were all sent straight to voicemail and a beep that greeted her, letting her know that her line was busy. This only further fuelled the anger that was already burning inside of her like a wildfire. She let out a loud scream, kicking the crushed can across the street. She was breathing heavily now as her heart pounded loudly against her chest.
"Aurelia, just you wait..." she sneered, mumbling under her breath as she narrowed her eyes into thin slits.
This time, she called Blake instead but before he could utter a single word, her sharp voice came piercing through the other end of the line.
"Did you meet Aurelia today?" She questioned through gritted teeth, her voice heavy with accusation and shaking with anger.
"Wait, how did you..." his voice trailed off, surprise evident in his tone before she cut him off abruptly.
"Did you or did you not meet her today?"!" She asked again this time, her voice grew louder than before.
There was a brief pause as silence stretched between them for a while before he finally said something.
"I did."
She let out a scoff. "So, you are cheating on me? Do you want to get back with your ex-wife?!" She screamed into the phone, her high-pitched voice could almost shatter his ear drums. "Why would you even meet her?!"
A cold chuckle emerged from his throat this time. "Me cheating on you?" He asked, tossing her words right back at her with an incredulous look that was stretched across his face. "Shouldn’t I be asking you that question instead?" He retorted, his voice was laced with a hint of accusation and doubt.
Sure enough, Aurelia’s words back at the cafe had been haunting him ever since.
It was at this moment when she felt her heart sink to the pit of her stomach. Panic flashed past her dark eyes for a fleeting moment but she quickly recovered from the shock.
"What? What the hell are you talking about? Why are you turning this on me now? I am not cheating on you, I told you, I am on a trip with my friends."
"Oh really? Then how come I don’t see any pictures of your friends and you together?"
"I already sent you pictures earlier today, what are you even... What more do you want from me?"
"Those were pictures taken at the airport. I want pictures of you and your friends in Japan," he demanded.
"Blake, you are being ridiculous!" She scolded, avoiding his question. "Do you not trust me? What has gotten into you? Did Aurelia say something to try and get between us?"
"No, she didn’t," he lied, he wouldn’t let her know that Aurelia’s words had gotten to him. "But you are acting suspicious and extra defensive," he pointed out blatantly, his tone carrying a sharp edge to it.
"Are you hiding something from me?" He asked this time with a frown etched onto his face.
"I am not hiding anything from you," she insisted. "My conscience is clear whether you want to believe me or not. I am your girlfriend, why would I lie to you? You know I wouldn’t want to break your heart right? I’m not like your ex."
"This isn’t about her. This is about us. Tell me why should I trust you when you couldn’t even do one simple thing that I am asking for?"

First Person POV
Stella had been calling me the past few times but I ignored it, hanging up on her the second I saw her name on my screen.
My phone rang again this time. I was just about to hang up when I glanced down to see the familiar name staring back at me.
It was Bryce.
I answered the call almost immediately, anticipation and excitement swirling in the depths of my dark brown eyes.
"Hey, Bryce," I greeted.
"Aurelia, the results of the maternity test are out."
