Overbearing CEO's Contract Love
Chapter 476: Seeking the Truth

Chapter 476: Seeking the Truth

"Grandfather, I was just going for a walk," Damien Sterling replied honestly. He wasn’t sure what he was like before, but since losing his memory, he had held Mr. Sterling Senior in great respect.

"If you were just going for a walk, why didn’t you take anyone with you? What if something happened? What would happen to the company then?" Mr. Sterling Senior’s tone was far from friendly.

Damien Sterling didn’t want to offer any further explanation. He just smiled and said, "You’re right, Grandfather. It won’t happen again."

Mr. Sterling Senior finally felt reassured by Damien Sterling’s compliant attitude. He didn’t remember how things were before; otherwise, his temperament wouldn’t have been so mild.

"That’s good. I hope you won’t disappoint me," Mr. Sterling Senior continued, "Go get some rest."

As Damien Sterling watched his grandfather’s retreating figure, he suddenly called out, "Grandfather."

The old man turned back, his face still carrying a hint of kindness. "Whatever questions you have can wait until later. Right now, your health is most important. Get some rest."

Since he put it that way, Damien Sterling didn’t dare to press the matter. It was clear that his grandfather was intentionally avoiding his questions, and Damien knew what he would ask.

Damien Sterling’s head throbbed more and more. Everything felt like a tangled mess, an unraveled ball of thread with no clear starting point, leaving him unable to make sense of it all. But one thing was certain—these people were all lying to him, including Emma Hart. He had to find the answers himself; he couldn’t be kept in the dark.

It was obvious that the drivers and assistants who usually accompanied him were completely loyal to Mr. Sterling Senior. He couldn’t get anything useful from them.

As for Riley Turner, she seemed like the mastermind behind this web of lies—completely untrustworthy.

Now, he felt like he was trapped in a pitch-black bag by these people, with the only way out being Emma Hart.

He needed to see Emma Hart again as soon as possible and force the truth out of her, no matter what it took. The feeling of being deceived by everyone was unbearable.

Damien Sterling returned to his room, planning to sneak out in the dead of night to find out Emma Hart’s address.

But that very night, everything became clear to him.

Riley Turner’s voice came softly from outside the door, "May I come in?" The light, cautious knock made it hard for Damien Sterling to refuse.

"Come in."

Riley Turner entered with a smile. She had heard from Mr. Sterling Senior that Damien Sterling hadn’t regained his memory, which made her very happy. She thought that maybe her behavior during the day had been too aggressive, which had angered Damien Sterling. After all, even ordinary people could get angry easily, let alone someone with Damien Sterling’s notorious temper.

With that realization, Riley Turner had come to terms with a lot.

Damien Sterling looked at her, unsure of what expression to wear.

"Do you need something?" he asked.

Riley Turner was a bit at a loss under his gaze. After all, she was still a woman, and considering the current situation, she and Damien Sterling were husband and wife. Should there really be so many formalities between them?

"I heard from Grandfather that you were back, so I wanted to check on you and explain about today..." Riley Turner began to explain her reason for coming.

"That won’t be necessary!" Damien Sterling interrupted before she could finish, leaving Riley Turner in an awkward position.

But Riley Turner wasn’t one to give up easily. She continued, "I didn’t mean anything else at the café today, I just..."

"I’m not interested in what you meant, Riley Turner. I know you’ve been lying to me about some things. If, as you say, you still have feelings for me, you’d better come clean about everything. If I find out you’ve been deceiving me, you know what the consequences will be," Damien Sterling nearly threatened.

Riley Turner stared at him, stunned. She wanted to explain, but she couldn’t tell the truth. First, because she was part of this conspiracy, and second, because if Damien Sterling learned the truth, he would surely kick her out immediately.

She wasn’t foolish enough to leap into a pit knowing she’d fall.

"What are you talking about, Damien? Why would I lie to you? I love you," Riley Turner defended herself desperately.

Damien Sterling felt nothing but disgust. He no longer pinned his hopes on Riley Turner. His earlier threat had relied on the belief that Riley Turner still had some conscience, but now he realized he had been terribly mistaken.

"Alright, I’d like to be alone for a while. Please leave." Damien Sterling dismissed her without hesitation. Ever since discovering that Riley Turner had been lying to him, any affection he once felt for her had vanished.

Riley Turner tried to stay, but the cold, unyielding look Damien gave her forced her to retreat.

When Emma Hart finally got home, she was utterly exhausted. The events of the day had left her shaken. Even though she had made her decision, it seemed fate wasn’t ready to let her go.

As the clock ticked away, minute by minute, she wondered how her two children abroad were doing. Did they miss their mother? With her mind filled with these thoughts and worries, she eventually drifted off to sleep.

In the haze of sleep, Damien Sterling appeared, holding their children’s hands as they approached her. The children’s faces were lit up with smiles, and in that moment, she felt a happiness that was only possible in her dreams.

If nothing else, she would have preferred to stay in that dream forever.

But then, the table emitted a low rumble—it was her phone vibrating, the sound irritating in the quiet room. Without realizing it, she had fallen asleep at the table. When the sound pierced her consciousness, she irritably reached for her phone to hang up, but then she saw a familiar number.

Grandfather?

She jolted awake, more alert than she had been in a long time.

Her hand trembled as she answered the call. Was he going to arrange a meeting between her and Damien Sterling?

"Hello..." She intended to greet him with "Grandfather," but as his image formed in her mind, she couldn’t bring herself to say it.

There was a few seconds of silence on the other end, but she could clearly hear the old man’s steady breathing.

"Didn’t I already agree that you could see Damien one more time before you leave? So why did you meet him secretly today?" His voice carried a low tone of reproach.

But Emma Hart knew what kind of stormy anger was hidden behind that seemingly calm voice.

"I didn’t," Emma Hart immediately defended herself. "I didn’t arrange to meet him—we ran into each other by chance. You know what kind of person I am. How could I ever break my promise?"

The old man on the other end of the line seemed to relax a little, letting out a quiet sigh. "Good. Since you’ve already seen him today, I don’t think there’s any need to meet again before you leave. I’ve booked your flight for the day after tomorrow. I trust you’ll keep your promise. They called from over there, saying the kids are crying out for their mom every day, even starting to refuse food. You’ll have to decide what to do."

Emma Hart suddenly found it hard to breathe. She knew it—her children couldn’t bear to be without her.
