Overbearing CEO's Contract Love
Chapter 475: The Failed Interrogation

Chapter 475: The Failed Interrogation

Damien Sterling despised lies and hated deceit more than anything. How could he forgive Riley Turner for trying to deceive him now?

"Assistant Lee," Damien Sterling called out to the driver standing by the door, his voice carrying an unmistakable command. "Take her back."

Riley Turner looked extremely reluctant, her brows furrowed tightly. Her eyes locked on Damien Sterling’s, filled with defiance. Even at this point, she refused to bow to anyone. Her pride was truly astonishing.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" Riley Turner enunciated each word clearly, staring directly into Damien Sterling’s eyes.

Damien Sterling didn’t even glance at her. He was increasingly certain that there was no spark in Riley Turner’s eyes, no trace of the woman he loved. Her world held nothing that interested him anymore.

"There’s nothing more to say." With that, Damien Sterling grabbed Emma Hart by the arm and walked away.

As she watched them leave, Riley Turner’s heart felt like it was full of holes.

Emma Hart glanced back unintentionally and saw not just anger in Riley Turner’s eyes but also deep disappointment with Damien Sterling. For someone as proud as her to be treated so dismissively by a man, it must have been unbearable.

Because she was so familiar with him, Emma Hart hadn’t even noticed how long Damien Sterling had been holding her hand.

After leaving the café, they reached a more secluded area, and Damien Sterling suddenly let go of her hand.

Emma Hart stood cautiously, too afraid to speak.

"Tell me, how much have they been hiding from me? Who am I really, and who are you?" Damien Sterling’s firm tone stirred in Emma Hart a desire to finally tell him the truth.

"I’ve already told you, I don’t know. Why are you asking me about your own life?" Emma Hart stubbornly retorted.

Damien Sterling’s brow suddenly furrowed, and he growled, "You clearly know something—why won’t you tell me the truth? Just now, when I was holding your hand, it felt so familiar. I know your hand... I’ve known it before."

He stared at Emma Hart’s hand as if speaking to himself. Instinctively, she pulled her hand behind her back, her eyes growing moist as tears threatened to fall. Damien Sterling, oh Damien Sterling, if only you knew the helplessness I feel.

The helplessness of being unable to admit that the person you love most is me, that your wife is me, because our child is abroad. In the current situation, there’s no way you can stand up to your stubborn grandfather without causing more harm to others.

"Enough!" Emma Hart suddenly shouted. Damien Sterling was taken aback and listened as she continued. "Some things are better left unknown. Damien Sterling, remember this: if you never regain your memory, then just live a happy life. But if you ever do remember the past, please let it go. Life is short, and we shouldn’t waste too much time on one thing. Take good care of yourself."

Emma Hart’s words wounded her own heart, as if being stabbed repeatedly, not too deep but painfully persistent. Her heart bled, yet she forced herself to remain calm.

Damien Sterling was deeply affected by her words. Seeing the tears in her eyes, the sadness and struggle within them, he felt as if his heart were being torn apart. This must be the most primal human emotion—his heart breaking because she was crying.

But Emma Hart left, and Damien Sterling had no excuse to stop her. He silently resolved that he would find a way to regain his lost memories. He had to remember who the woman was that filled his heart completely.

When Riley Turner was brought back home by the driver, Mr. Sterling Senior was sitting on the sofa, deep in thought.

"Grandfather," Riley Turner nervously clenched the corner of her clothes with her right hand as she slowly approached the elderly man. "I think... I think... Grandfather, I’m sorry." She suddenly began to cry.

Mr. Sterling Senior, who was fond of Riley Turner, could already guess what was going on. Despite his age, his eyes still flashed with sharpness. "If all you do when faced with a problem is cry, how do you expect to become my granddaughter-in-law?"

Riley Turner immediately stopped crying. She had only cried to appear vulnerable, hoping to gain Mr. Sterling Senior’s support.

"I’m just worried that I might no longer be able to show you the respect you deserve. I think he... I think he’s starting to remember things from before." Riley Turner straightened her back and made a calculated guess.

Mr. Sterling Senior’s eyes suddenly brightened. He preferred Damien Sterling to never fully regain his memory, rather than remember things selectively. Emma Hart was simply not suitable to be his granddaughter-in-law—a woman who was of no benefit to the company or the family wasn’t what Damien needed.

"Are you serious?" Mr. Sterling Senior asked.

Riley Turner hesitated slightly as she stepped closer. "A few days ago, he was so gentle with me, but today he yelled at me as if he were a completely different person. Grandfather, didn’t you ask me to bring him back from the café? Well, I saw Emma Hart there."

Mr. Sterling Senior paused for a moment, finally raising his head to look at the weary Riley Turner. "What did you say?"

Riley Turner knew that Mr. Sterling Senior didn’t like Emma Hart, so she pressed on with more interest. "I don’t know how they ended up together, but think about it, Grandfather. If Damien hadn’t remembered anything from before, why would he go to her? But if he had remembered, wouldn’t you have known? So, I suspect that Emma Hart is up to something."

Hearing Riley Turner’s logical analysis, Mr. Sterling Senior began to ponder the situation. What was really going on here?

Emma Hart had promised him that she would go abroad to take care of the two children, and he had even agreed to let her meet Damien Sterling one last time before leaving. But how had things progressed so quickly on that front?

Seeing Riley Turner so upset, Mr. Sterling Senior had a hunch: Damien Sterling might have driven her away because of Emma Hart.

Given Damien Sterling’s temperament, there could be only two outcomes—either he had remembered everything from the past, or he had realized something important.

But what Mr. Sterling Senior didn’t understand was that a person’s attraction to another doesn’t change because of a change in appearance or status. True love is always deeply rooted in the heart; it never disappears without reason.

"Alright, I understand. Get some rest; I’ll handle this," Mr. Sterling Senior instructed. As he watched Riley Turner head upstairs, he couldn’t help but reflect on how much he liked her. Her distinguished family background could benefit the company, and besides, Riley Turner was an excellent match for Damien Sterling.

Unexpectedly, Damien Sterling soon returned home. He said nothing as he walked in, intending to go straight to his room.

But the soft sound of his footsteps caught Mr. Sterling Senior’s attention. The doctors had already warned that he shouldn’t move around too freely in the next few days to avoid any complications.

Yet, Damien Sterling felt restless and constantly wanted to go out for a walk.

"You still remember how to come home?" Mr. Sterling Senior’s stern and cold voice rang out, startling Damien Sterling.

Since the accident, the old man had become even more controlling, a feeling that made Damien extremely uncomfortable.
